News:: Factions are coming back to Destiny 2 in the form of rallies, but they're not as cool as they sound

Remember when Destiny 1 launched, and everyone expressed disappointment at the Queen's Wrath event? It was so bad that Bungie had to actually retire it, then claimed it was "on the back burner"  until it was improved and never actually brought it back -- instead, they billed it as "part" of the House of Wolves expansion they had already announced. They've never been got at events, and the Faction Rallies system in Destiny 2 doesn't seem all that exciting.

Here's the gist -- you walk up to a Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, or a New Monarchy representative on September 26 at 2AM PT, and pledge your allegience to one. Then you grind by doing activities you've been doing for two weeks to gear up (public events, lost sectors, strikes, raid, crucible), and turn in faction tokens. At the end (October 3 at 2AM PT) the winning group will be able to buy a weapon from their winning faction for 1,000 glimmer -- and the rest will have to pay 50,000 (all three will have a weapon).

That's it. All the while you'll be earning gear rewards, some of which overlap with the main game drops in the form of simple reskins. Destiny 2 as a whole feels improved, and the Leviathan raid is one of the best yet, but this whole post-launch/event support setup is just as sloppy as ever.
