News::Corsual Let's Play: God Mode with EXP

Corsual's EXP writes: "Are cooperative shooters making a comeback? It seems they might be - there's more and more of them appearing these days; where once they used to be a staple addition to most single-player games, now, with the rise of smaller, cheaper games on Steam, XBL and PSN, it seems that the world of cooperative shooters is about to get a boost. God Mode is one of these games; lacking all elements of a story bar the premise (you're dead, and you've just arrived in Hades' Underworld, and must fight your way out), this game puts teams of 4 players against waves of undead enemies in a series of gauntlet-themed 'mazes'."

News::Game Debate to the Death! What series needs to just die?

In a recent debate, Dtoid user ctrain had a very good point. For a Web series that's been running for seven years with the name "Game Debate to the Death" we've certainly seen a lot of debates, but not so many deaths. There have been least favorite debates, survival of the fittest tournaments based on Street Fighter characters, and plenty of other brutal gauntlets, but this time let's make an all out sacrificial offering to the game industry gods. First, let's take a look at the results from the last debate:

  • BioShock: 60 votes -- Winner!

  • BioShock Infinite: 30 votes

  • BioShock 2: 10 votes

Go ahead and unleash your repressed rage and let's spill some blood. Pick a game series that needs to forcibly be ended and dish out all the polygonal pain and pixel punishment that it deserves! There are no rules; if you can't honestly think of a candidate then be creative! Tetris! Cast your vote and check back next week for the winner (loser?) and a new debate!

GR:Some games leave you wondering why they shipped with half-baked multiplayer modes. Sacred Citadels obvious finale will leave you wondering why it shipped with a half-baked story. Thankfully, the enjoyable combat steals the spotlight, though it doesnt come away unblemished. One of the greatest compliments a game can pay its players is to trust them with handling challenging, dynamic scenarios, and this one delivers on that front more often than not. Despite some frustrating enemies and ludicrously overpowered player abilities, Sacred Citadel is an excellent choice for gamers looking for a fun multiplayer romp.

From Strategyinformer.com: "Its hard to judge Rooks Keep based on the preview build. Its clearly got a long way to go, and feels like a very early prototype with animations missing, balance issues, and a general lack of polish, but beneath all the tattered decorations lies the hint of something that could be a frantic and exciting game. My experience was limited to offline against bots (I couldnt find any games happening on the preview build whenever I checked), so hopefully combat feels more natural against human opponents, because right now theres a lot of flaws limiting the potential fun".

News::Nordic Games touts sequels after acquiring Darksiders, Red Faction and more

Nordic Games is looking to release ‘sequels and additional content’ for its host of new IP after it stepped in to acquire most of THQ’s remaining properties yesterday.

The deal for Darksiders, Red Faction, MX vs. ATV, Supreme Commander, Full Spectrum Warrior, Destroy All Humans – and many more – is the biggest in the company’s history. Subject to court approval, Nordic will pay $4.9 million for the former THQ properties.

“We are very happy about this deal which also turns over a new leaf for the entire Nordic Games Group,” said owner and CEO of Nordic Games Group AB Lars Wingefors. “In the long term, we either want to cooperate with the original creators or best possible developers in order to work on sequels or additional content for these titles.”

“A very important point for us is not to dash into several self-financed multi-million dollar projects right away, but rather to continue our in-depth analysis of all titles and carefully selecting different financing models for developing new instalments of acquired IPs.”

Nordic Games and THQ expect to finalise the deal on May 13th. Gearbox also acquired the Homeworld series elsewhere in the THQ sell-off,

News::Bethesda clarifies that future 'minor updates' for Skyrim wont include any additional features

When Bethesda announced last week that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim development team are moving on, as a whole, to the studios next big project; the developer stated that fans shouldnt expect anything other than minor updates for popular role-playing game in the future. Further clarifying exactly what was meant by minor updates, Bethesdas Pete Hines has now stated that no additional features will ever be included to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Players originally hoped that content added outside of major DLC releases, such as Kinect Support and mounted combat, might be considered to be minor updates that fans could still look forward too. However, this isnt the case. Any gameplay feature that isnt currently part of Skyrim simply wont ever be added.

News::Major issues addressed in latest Defiance patch

Early today "Defiance" servers were brought down to apply patch 1.012. This patch fixed several major issue plaguing the MMO shooter while enhancing the overall quality of the game. Aside from general server stability improvements, players can also expect to see more active random encounters. Although these encounters no longer reward keycodes since the "Sharks in Winter Solstice" patch, players can still complete them for scrip. Larger problems like losing items in the salvage matrix and loadouts not saving properly have also been "improved." PvPers should be pleased to see the correct capture and hold results at the end of a match now making the new episode pursuits completable. Finally, missions will only offer credit if a player actively participates in the mission now. With this change, leech camping might be somewhat rectified.

By my count, this marks Bandai's fifth variation of X. Meanwhile, Sigma is just sitting around all like, "Hey guys? What's goin' on?" I mean, he's only the primary antagonist in the entire damn series. Even Vile has a toy already. What's up?

Ultimate Armor X will go on sale in Japan this August, and given the quick turnaround times in the past, US fans ought to be able to buy it locally within the next few months.

News::Dead Island Riptide (360) | FTG Review

FTG Writes: The first Dead Island set the gaming world ablaze with its glitzy debut trailer and cheeky in-game rap song, building the soon-to-be released zombie smasher toward unspeakable levels of hype. The final product proved that gameplay could stand above the mess surrounding, striding in what most gamers seek in a game. And like its predecessor, Dead Island Riptide counters with the same approach again, only not as glamorous nor innovative. Now weve got to get this out of the way first, but Dead Island Riptide is not a sequel. Let us quell that perception and set the precedent, so dont expect an overhaul and revamping of the original. Notice the $40-$50 price tag and realize Dead Island Riptide is merely an expansion, a half-step, and an abundance of telling signs and symptoms of Sequelitis.
