News:: Gal Gun 2 will pleasure the ladies on PS4 and Switch this winter

Well this is a pleasant surprise! Inti Creates, the developer that is absolutely knocking it out of the park with its support on the Switch, will continue to bring the love this winter with Gal*Gun 2. The game, which is actually the fourth in the series, is also coming to the PlayStation 4 and will have a playable demo at the Tokyo Game Show.

Gal*Gun 2 will have more of the same naughty gameplay I enjoyed with Double Peace, but with new characters and a school full of new girls waiting to be satisfied. In addition to spraying teens with your Pheromone Shots and rubbing them down during Doki Doki mode, Gal*Gun 2 will also feature the Demon Sweeper vacuum gadget from Gal*Gun VR.

It's currently unclear if the launch this winter is for Japan only or worldwide, but more information on the game will be released in the coming weeks.

News:: Get a glimpse of the music behind ultra-hard platformer ‘Cuphead’

Cuphead will probably be equally remembered for two things: Its already-infamous punishing difficulty and its gorgeous hand-drawn look. But folks shouldn't count out its delightful big band/swing soundtrack, which pairs perfectly with the game's 1930s-esque animated style. Studio MDHR released a teaser video showing a "making of" look into recording the title's breakaway hit, "Floral Fury."

News:: Don't let Cuphead's art overshadow its soundtrack

Cuphead is out next Friday, and I can hardly believe it's almost here. I've been so obsessed with the exquisite art and animation that Kristofer Maddigan's big-band soundtrack has gone under-noticed. Nothing like a behind-the-scenes look at the music to serve as a necessary kick in the pants.

I look forward to associating this upbeat track with pain and suffering come next week.

Also, for collectors: the full soundtrack will be out on vinyl through iam8bit later this year. It's wild to me that vinyl releases for video games have become commonplace. Does the heart good.

News:: The SNES Classic will be available in Quebec after all

The ongoing rumor that language laws in Quebec were preventing the sale of the SNES Classic has turned out unfounded, Toys "R" Us Canada confirmed on Twitter. Nintendo left us all hanging, but according to the toy store chain, they will be available across the country... And not exclusively from their stores either.

News:: Final Fantasy IX might be coming to PS4 soon

Final Fantasy IX has been rated for the PS4 by the Pan European Game Information Board, which means we could be getting a port to the console soon. FFIX, first released in 2000, has already had a solid PC port along with iOS and Android.

Final Fantasy VII was ported to the PS4 a couple of years ago with added features that let you speed up the game, turn invincible, and switch off random battles. It remains to be seen if FFIX will get the same treatment and when, as no official announcement has yet been made. Could there be one at Tokyo Game Show this week?

News:: Three Fields Entertainment outlines when Danger Zone will be getting updates

When Danger Zone came out, I found it to be quite a blast. It was loaded with all of the crazy touches that Burnout's "Crash" mode had, but was mostly limited by the amount of content on offer with basically nothing to unlock. While DLC was never off the table, developer Three Fields Entertainment started by announcing an Xbox One port that would contain some exclusive extra levels. This got me salivating for more stuff, since they clearly weren't finished with the game.

Turns out that stuff is eventually coming to PC and PS4 along with a whole slew of other extras. Yes, we aren't simply getting new levels for Danger Zone, but a couple of different cars to speed in, as well. Along with that, the PS4 Pro is getting official support and the Xbox One X will even have a version ready for launch. Awesome!

News:: Layers of Fear Legacy announced for Nintendo Switch

Bloober Team's psychological horror adventure Layers of Fear is heading to Nintendo Switch. As you can see from this trailer, the game leans heavily into environmental scares and trippy visuals as you play a disturbed painter trying to work through a creative block and finish his masterpiece.

There's no release date in sight, but with Halloween approaching, an October launch would be smart.

I played and reviewed the PC version, which I thought was entertaining, albeit not scary throughout. I also tested the PlayStation 4 version at that time and was underwhelmed by its lousy, tension-killing frame rate. That'll be something to keep in mind for this Switch port. Hopefully it runs better.

News:: This Code Vein boss fight looks decent enough

Code Vein has been bouncing on and off my radar for a while now. That doesn't really change today with this boss fight playthrough from IGN. It's still a dodge-roll-heavy action-RPG with some vampiric stuff going on that's very clearly taking cues from Souls and Boodborne. Yes, yes, and yes.

The execution isn't up to those high standards, though, and the anime stylings aren't necessarily to my taste either. That said, the game comes across as looking generally all right.

I like that the helper character is named Louis. That's real good. I'm also a fan of the bizarrely-worded but somehow apt victory message, "Greater Lost was Dispersed." I could do without that music, though.

Code Vein isn't out until 2018, so there's plenty of time left for Bandai Namco and Shift to win me over.

News:: Dragon Ball FighterZ is the Marvel vs. Capcom we deserve

One of the more prominent reactions from the online community when Dragon Ball FighterZ was first announced was that the anticipation for it seemed to eclipse the already announced Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. The more cynical part of me feared the hype would eventually wane as the weeks rolled on, and a game like Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite would be better received the more we saw of it.

But somehow every new image, every new bit of info, every trailer, every preview, only served to amplify my excitement. I thought I'd be able to cover this beta without drawing comparisons too closely to Infinite myself, but after playing Infinite a week and then jumping into this, I had a better feeling coming off of the limited time I had with Dragon Ball FighterZ than I had ever dreamed.

It's just hard to deny a game clearly made with tons of love and attention to detail.

News:: Here's how Ana translates to Heroes of the Storm

Before she joins Heroes of the Storm next week, Blizzard has a spotlight video for Ana. There are a lot of familiar elements here, from healing and sleep darts to grenades and a Nano Boost ultimate.

The two things I'm most down with: being able to add poison to Ana's basic attacks, and her alternate ultimate, Eye of Horus, which lets her shoot eight rounds with unlimited range that can heal allies or damage foes. You won't be able to move while it's active and these rounds only hit one target (whether it be an ally, an enemy, or a structure), but that'll be fun as hell in certain situations.

Between Ana and the other impending Overwatch addition, Junkrat, I'm more keen to try the latter. That said, maybe I'll fare better with her long-range kit in Heroes of the Storm.

News:: Former Valve writer Chet Faliszek heading up 'PC action co-op game' at Bossa

Earlier this year, Valve said goodbye to Chet Faliszek, a long-time writer for the company who worked on the Half-Life 2 episodes, Portal, its sequel, and both Left 4 Dead games. At the time, he said his departure wasn't "exciting or drama filled," and he didn't announce where he'd be heading to next.

Now we know! Faliszek has joined Bossa Studios to direct "an unannounced PC action co-op game trying to do something new in the narrative space using AI." The London-based developer is known for titles like Surgeon Simulator, I Am Bread, and more recently Worlds Adrift.

Faliszek added in follow-up tweets that the project "is not VR" and that he'll be staying put in Seattle.

I think all hiring news should be proceeded by pet reactions.

News:: Call of Duty: WWII's story seems to be shaping up well

People play games like Call of Duty for different reasons. Some are all about the multiplayer. Others are into zombie slaying. And then there are the folks who just want to run through the campaign and call it a day. If the story is what you're into most for WWII, today's trailer is our best look yet.

Call of Duty: WWII's campaign follows Private Ronald "Red" Daniels and picks up during his first combat encounter on none other than D-Day. "After surviving the beaches of Normandy, Red and his squad will fight their way across Europe, engaging the enemy in iconic battle locations such as the Hürtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge, as they make their way into Germany." Also, yes, Josh Duhamel is in it.

Looks good enough to me.

News:: Review: Preacher (Season 2)

When AMC announced they were going to be working with Seth Rogen and Sam Catlin to adapt the beloved 90's comic Preacher a lot of people started wondering whether or not the cable network could pull it off. Fan fears were rightfully warranted as the comic has heaps of Garth Ennis' almost trademarked line-pushing content that would probably do better on one of the premium channels, but to say that Preacher was only about the vulgar and offensive undermines the best part of the comic, the characters.

Through all the bloodshed, cursing, and blasphemy the characters of Preacher are what shine through, a misfit band of morally gray characters on a mission to find God. It's in these characters that AMC, Rogan, and Catlin have placed their trust to faithfully tell the story of the comic while still telling their take on it. The first season was all about setting up the major characters and setting them in motion, the second season uses those established characters to tell some genuinely great stories where humans, holy figures, shadowy cabals, and a drug-addicted Irish vampire all become entangled in a search for a missing God.

News:: First poster appears for Alicia Vikander's Tomb Raider

We're getting closer and closer to a time when we can all say we've seen a Tomb Raider movies without Angelina Jolie, and as such we now have a poster for that movie. As you can see in the poster this new film takes its cues from the reboot of the series, with all its dirt, grime, non-triangular breasts, and more appropriate adventuring clothing. Also with its casting which pulls in Oscar-winning Alicia Vikander for the title role. I'm actually a little surprised that her name gets such big billing here as she is definitely up and coming, but not a household name yet.

That should change when this would be blockbuster releases, of course. The plot is hewing surprisingly close to the first game in the rebooted series, with Lara Croft travelling to an island off the coast of Japan to discover a tomb, which was the last known location of her father. Bow and arrow shooting probably ensues. Full plot synopsis below if you're interested.

We hate trailer teasers because trailers for trailers are stupid, but since we're sharing the poster here's the teaser for the trailer that should debut tomorrow. Looks a little cheesy...

News:: PS4 and Xbox owners were able to play 'Fortnite' together

You know how Sony is adamant about not allowing cross-platform play between PlayStation 4, Switch and Xbox One? Well, something interesting happened in Epic Games' Fortnite over the weekend: Xbox players were found in a handful PlayStation Battle Royale matches. A Reddit user noticed that someone in his PS4 game had a space in their handle (something allowed in Xbox Gamertags, but not on PS4), and then the thread picked up to include further examples like a father and son playing together on disparate consoles. A Twitch stream with video proof is embedded below. Curious, indeed.

News:: Battleborn's next update will be its last hurrah

Gearbox's MOBA Battleborn will receive its final patch this Fall, ultimately pushing the ambitious but troubled online game into its twilight period.

Though Battleborn has some postive features, including some nice visuals, a cool-looking cast and an intriguing first-person take on the "Heroes and Minions" gameplay, utilised in popular games such as League of Legends, it generally received mediocre to fair reviews on launch from critics and the public.

Just two months after release, the PC player base had already dropped to below 1000 players, from an initial 12,000 in week one. The game went pseudo-Free-to-Play in June of this year, but by that point it was all over bar the shouting. Battleborn never recovered from its release opposite Blizzard's monstrously hyped and marketed Overwatch, regardless of whether people want to argue over "which game is better", or whether they are "the same genre".

A release from game director Randy Varnell stated that the Battleborn servers will remain open for "the foreseeable future", but that he is leaving the title behind in order to move on to a "highly anticipated project" for Gearbox.

News:: Japan's first ever EVO tournament will be free to enter

The first Japan EVO tournament, noteworthy for also not featuring Melee as a main stage title, will be free to enter. As long as you can make it to Japan in January you won't need to pay the ~$50-$70 required for other EVO tournaments, and spectators won't be required to pay anything for the first two days (once it moves from Sunshine City to Akiba Square, you'll have to pony up).

Now this isn't necessarily being done for any reason other than getting around a legal loophole. According to officials, Japanese regulations are stifling eSports in Japan, so much so that they are required to only pay out "20 times the entry fee." By making entries free, they can choose the payment. Those payments are already confirmed to be roughly 1 million yen, or around $9,000 US per game, outside of Nintendo titles, which will pay nothing.

I'm anxious to see the streaming numbers more than anything, and I'm just happy Guilty Gear is in. I see big wins for Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 once again, but the rest I'm not sure about, especially ARMS.

News:: 'Half-Life 2' mod puts the sequel inside of the original

The chances of us getting Half-Life 3 or, hell, even Half-Life 2: Episode 3 seem about as likely as the Detroit Lions winning the Super Bowl at this point. To help take some of that sting off, a group of enterprising fans crafted Half-Life 2: Classic, a mod that essentially runs the game in its prequel's "Goldsrc" engine. It serves as "a way to see what Half-Life 2 could have looked like in the limits of Goldsrc, if Valve never developed the Source engine," the listing page says.

News:: Leatherface spins, carves and clobbers his way into Dead By Daylight

If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise. Like a chainsaw to the forehead. Leatherface, the squealing killer with a penchant for skin-made masks and sweet suits, is coming to stealth horror title Dead by Daylight.

The dopey horror legend will be cutting a wrath of DLC death and mayhem through the cult game, which sees groups of players attempt to survive a rampaging killer in a creepy forest.

Alongside his incredible damage output, Leatherface's three perks allow him to briefly see the "auras" of other players each time he hooks one of their companions, locks out the aura of any player he downs, and cause depreciation of any items his victims drop, once they fall to his ever-revving death-machine.

Having already featured in Mortal Kombat X and his own crappy Atari game, Leatherface is become quite the video game icon. Leatherface is available for purchase in Dead by Deadlight, priced at $4.

News:: After the new Mario Odyssey trailer, shirtless Mario is the next big thing

Shirtless Mario has been all the rage this past week, as the new trailer for Odyssey showcased Mario nipples in all their glory. These nips aren't just flashed for no reason either -- they're stylin' for a new tropical paradise type setting, and in theme with Mario changing his outfit constantly based on the setting.

It seems like modders picked up on the craze, and managed to create a model based on the new (near birthday) suit for Smash Wii U. He's sporting his polka dot swim trunks from the same video, which looks nicely when juxtaposed to swanky wedding suit Bowser, also a mod based on Odyssey.

I love how much good will Odyssey is already generating -- if all goes well it should give Switch a firm push in the holiday season.

News:: Apparently you can play Fortnite together on PS4 and Xbox One

We're all well aware of Sony's isolationist stance on cross-network multiplayer, but to bring people up to speed, I'll quickly reiterate it. Sony doesn't want their consoles playing with other consoles due to a lack of control over the users. Stupid, but what are you gonna do? If you're Epic Games, you're just going to make it happen, is what.

As discovered by a bunch of users over on Reddit, apparently Fortnite has the ability to link PS4 and Xbox One users together online. The biggest piece of evidence came when a player on PS4 killed someone and noticed there were spaces in the player name. This is a feature not allowed by Sony for PSN gamertags, so how was it possible? While it could have been a PC user, a quick search for the gamertag brought up an Xbox Live account and even footage of the player enjoying themselves on Xbox One.

If you still don't believe this and are thinking the other player is on PC, then know that Fortnite doesn't utilize Xbox Live for PC multiplayer. Epic Games has their own game launcher (because who doesn't now a days?), so for this user name to appear on Xbox Live and have footage of the game is a pretty definitive answer. Apparently you can have cross-network on PS4 and Xbox One if you just give Sony the finger.
