News:: Debatoid: Are loot boxes a blight on gaming?

Welcome to Debatoid! If you weren’t around six years ago, Debatoid is an internet debate between two lovely community members. A topic is chosen and the two gentleman/gentleladies will argue either for or against said topic. I will flip a coin to see who takes which side and then the debaters do their thing! The guests are encouraged to use personal experience, facts, and opinions to sway the community to their side. Just no name calling, ya filthy animals. This is a classy affair.

News:: You know who else is sad Regular Show is over?

[Usually, promotions are nice and long to engage readers with our community content. But this time, I wanted to help share this message of a bittersweet goodbye to Regular Show, one of the most endearing shows a gamer of any age could watch. Adventure Time may have gotten all the marketing and merch, but Regular Show had our love. ~ Strider]

I just finished watching the final four episodes of Regular Show, which were aired in an hour-long block on Monday. While there are things I didn't like about it -- namely the rushed epilogue that condensed a wealth of character developments in a three-minute montage -- overall, I thought it was a fitting end to one of Cartoon Network's greatest original shows.

News:: So long Crossy Road, hello Westy West

As I said I would do in my gaming resolution, I’ve been spending a lot of time recently with mobile games, looking for those fun experiences I think should be shared with people who are actually looking for games to play on their phones. On my old iPhone, I had around 25 games, but spend most of my downtime trying to get a high score in Crossy Road. For a game I played only one or two minutes at a time, I probably sunk around 10 hours into it. It is fun, it's easy to play, it’s what Konami should have done with Frogger, and it’s no longer my go-to toilet time game now that I’ve discovered Westy West.

Currently in Android Early Access and slated for official release later this year, Westy West follows in the footsteps of Crossy Road and similar games like Totes the Goat and Shooty Skies. With its simple swipe controls and fun aesthetic, I keep coming back to this free-to-play app whenever I have a moment or two, or when I'm forced to stand on the train. Like the aforementioned games, Westy West has an extremely agreeable microtransaction plan that allows you to pay upfront for new characters or spend the currency you earn in game.

News:: The Morning After: Weekend Edition

Letter from the Editor

It's official. Welcome to Trump's America, everybody.

And while there were plenty of eyes on the president-elect's questionable cabinet choices this past week, Obama still managed to make some headlines of his own. Among them was his decision to commute Chelsea Manning's prison term, which shaved 28 years off the original sentence she got for giving hundreds of thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks. Chelsea's status as a transgender woman at a male prison -- and the dangers to her safety that entails -- doubtless was a prime motivator for the pardon. Still, the outgoing POTUS may have also hoped that Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, will now make good on his promise to agree to US extradition if Manning was ever granted clemency. If it works out, it'll be quite the White Housewarming gift from one president to another.
