News:: 'Octopath Traveler' heads to Nintendo Switch on July 13th

Square Enix's gorgeous new game, Octopath Traveler, is arriving on the Nintendo Switch very soon. Nintendo has revealed at today's Direct stream that the game developed by the same people behind the critically acclaimed RPG series Bravely Default will be available on July 13th. The game giant has also introduced two new characters you can play as in the epic RPG: a merchant named Tressa, who can acquire new items from just about anyone, and Alfyn the apothecary, who has the ability to dig for more information than any of the other characters can.

News:: 'Fortnite Battle Royale' is coming to phones and tablets

Fortnite has rapidly gained ground on the battle royale-style champ, PUBG, and now Epic Games has announced it will launch a mobile version on iOS and Android. Amazingly, it's supposed to be the same game as we've seen on other platforms, and there's even a promise to support cross-play and cross-progression with the PC and PS4 versions of the game. Unfortunately, the Android version is coming "in the next few months," but sign-ups to play on iOS will open Monday and begin rolling out soon after. Compatible iOS devices include iPhone 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 and iPad 2017 running iOS 11.

News:: You might get yourself trapped in Splatoon 2's Shifty Station map

Nintendo UK have announced that a classic map will be making its return to ink-battler Splatoon 2 this weekend. the perpetually-morphing Shifty Station is back, with a new twist!

Not only will Shifty Station feature its trademark variable layout, complete with moving floors and rotatable platforms, but now the wacky warground will include "containment chambers" that will occasionally encompass areas within the map. Players could end up getting real cosy with their opposition for some up-close-and-personal inking action.

No specific time was offered for when the map will go live, but no doubt it will be made available in time for this weekend's Splatfest, where players in the U.S. and Europe will engage in colourful combat to determine which came first, The Chicken or The Egg?

News:: Sony has blocked Super Seducer from sale on PSN

Over the past few weeks, Super Seducer has earned quite the reputation on YouTube and Twitter. The game, headed by self-proclaimed "seduction guru" Richard La Ruina, is an FMV choose your own adventure title with the goal being to learn "tried and true attraction hacks" for getting women to swoon over you. While the game released on Steam without a hitch, it wasn't available this past Tuesday on PS4 and there wasn't any mention of that version being cancelled.

It turns out Sony has blocked the release of the title from its digital storefront. As confirmed by Motherboard, Super Seducer is not coming to PS4 anytime soon. Sony didn't offer further comment, but La Ruina did say, "My comment is that I have no comment on this."

While some people might start crying censorship, one has to remember that Sony independently operates the PlayStation Network. If they decide to not release a game for any reason, they are well within their right to do so. That might be ludicrous considering something like Life of Black Tiger exists, but that game is mainly offensive from a quality standpoint. Super Seducer plays into the "Pick-up Artist" culture that deals with psychologically manipulating women into sleeping with you. That isn't a good look for a major corporation to be endorsing.

News:: PUBG gets a roadmap for 2018, includes plans for two new maps

About a month and a half ago, PUBG Corp admitted it had no clear roadmap for the future of its game. With popularity (and cheating) rising, clearly something had to be cooking to keep people hooked. Announced just today, it looks like the future of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will be a bright one as the team plans to have two new maps for 2018.

The first new map is a 4x4 KM tropical themed island that is looking to offer an, "intense and faster paced Battle Royale experience." Some concept art was shown off with the island being very densely packed and surrounded by a crap ton of water. While details are scarce about the second map, the update notes mention it will be 8x8 KM and that the team plans to, "get this into your hands early in its development."

As for how gameplay is going to be tweaked, a new bullet penetration system is being introduced for cars and limbs. This will allow players to shoot through other players instead of bullets ending upon collision with their first target. Along with that, new vehicles and game modes are planned for sometime this year and an emote system will be brought into the game.

New animations are going to be introduced to both third-person and first-person game modes, including but not limited to entering vehicles and clambering over walls. These animations will also extend to the parachute system, which is set to be completely overhauled at some point. You can also expect vehicles to get a dramatic overhaul in audio quality along with some buildings receiving brand new textures.

Finally, game stability is being targeted as well as anti-cheat methods and server security. The details are thin about these changes, but the team assures they have some, "major victories to share." Rounding out the new changes will be achievements, in-game squad voice chat and an in-game friends list.

This all sounds great, but without a clear idea of what is going on with cheaters, I'm not sure how many people are going to feel happy about new maps being in development. That is easily the biggest hurdle PUBG has to cross, but I'm optimistic after reading this roadmap. New content should prevent the game from becoming stale and with lootcrates being pared back a bit, hopefully PUBG Corp has its head in the right place.

News:: Hyrule Warriors Switch is still looking great, and we still don't have a western release date

Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition launches in just a few weeks on Switch in Japan, but we still have that lovely "spring 2018" window in the US. That might change later today with Nintendo's semi-surprise Direct presentation set to run at 5PM Eastern, but for now, we have a few videos of the updated port in action.

Said port, if you recall, will sport 1080p in TV mode, as well as multiplayer support on the go and on a TV. It'll bring with it all previous DLC, including some great 3DS-exclusive content, and Breath of the Wild costumes for Link and Zelda.

I'm both hesitant and ecstatic to bury hours of my life in this joyous time sink again.

News:: SNK's Fatal Fury Real Bout titles return on various platforms today

Two of SNK's coolest old-school fighters, Real Bout Fatal Fury and its sequel, The Newcomers are being re-released today on modern platforms by retro-enthusiasts Hamster, as part of their ongoing Neo Geo ACA range.

Which game you're getting, and if you'll see it at all, is unfortunately oddly specific. The original Real Bout lands on Nintendo Switch worldwide today, with Real Bout 2 coming to the Xbox One. The latter is also listed for PS4, but, according to Hamster's cumbersome website, may only be available on the Japanese PSN store.

The 1995 release of Real Bout saw the series step up to meet the tough competion presented by other fighters in the mid-'90s. It's 1998 sequel, The Newcomers, pushed the Neo Geo software to new limits, and is arguably second only to Garou: Mark of the Wolves as the finest fighter in the Fatal Fury series. RB2 also features the debut of boxer Rick Strowd and the ever-hungry Xiangfei.

Real Bout Fatal Fury will be available to download today on Nintendo Switch. Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 launches on PS4 and Xbox One today, dependent on territory.

News:: Nintendo just published the top 25 downloaded SNES Virtual Console games on 3DS in Japan

Celebrating classics isn't always about commemorating selfish nostalgia. Studying where we came from in any historical context is important so that we can understand where we're going, and any data on retro games or retro preservation is important.

To that end, Nintendo just recently published the top 25 downloaded SNES/Super Famicom games on the 3DS Virtual Console in Japan, and although the top few are what you'd expect, there are some interesting winners in there.

Naturally Super Mario World takes the top honor, followed by Earthbound and Link to the Past, but the great Panel de Pon (Tetris Attack in the west) is still holding on years later with the 25th spot. Also of note, all three Donkey Kong Country games are listed, and the list is highly populated by SRPGs like Fire Emblem and Tactics Ogre.

If only we had as many SNES games to choose from in the western eShop storefronts, coupled with free downloads for previous SNES VC purchases on Wii or Wii U. One day?
