News:: The Atom, Enchantress, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are coming to Injustice 2

With as much teasing Ed Boon tends to do, it's crazy how no one guessed the final guest character in Injustice 2's third wave of DLC would be the friggin' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Being the trailer for the last (as of now) wave of DLC, this one's a little more involved than the other CG ones. It confirms Atom (who we've seen previously), Enchantress (semi-fresh off of Suicide Squad fame), and the turtle teens. I'm curious as to whether or not they'll play as a team (as mentioned here) or if each turtle is a variation of the gear for a base model turtle. Either way, this is crazy and I can't wait for it.

Atom hits Injustice 2 first December 12.

News:: GOG is handing out Syberia to celebrate the launch of Syberia 3: The Complete Journey

Syberia is a classic point-and-click style adventure game that came out just as the genre was dying in 2002. It was received well and even spawned a sequel that came out a few years later. After that, the series basically went dark until earlier this year with the poorly received Syberia 3. Regardless of what you feel about that game, GOG.com is giving away the original classic in celebration of Syberia 3: The Complete Journey's release.

I doubt most people are going to care about the latter as basically every review I can find says the game is a dud. At least we'll always have the classics to go back to (now for free!). If you don't have a PC, but still want to check out this interesting title, it has been ported to pretty much every console imaginable (Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, DS, OSX, iOS, Android, Windows Phone). There was even a Switch version released a few weeks ago, which totally flew under the radar.

You'll have until 10 am PST/1 pm EST tomorrow (November 11) to grab the game. After that, it will return to its $9.99 price.

News:: Director John Carpenter loves Sonic the Hedgehog, even the 'werewolf' one

The Thing, Halloween, and Escape from New York director John Carpenter regularly talks about his love of games in interviews and as a fan of his films and music, it's delightful to hear every single time.

Last month, Carpenter told the Guardian he was deep into Destiny 2, saying, "I've dedicated my life to learning how to play it. At my age why not? It keeps me out of trouble."

Now, the 69-year-old is telling FACT about his long-lasting love of Sonic the Hedgehog -- and hatred for the dread-inducing "underwater level," the Labyrinth Zone. "I'd die every time," he said. "And then have to start back. It was so frustrating, but there was something so intensely addicting about that."

The best bit? It's not just the Sega Genesis original. Carpenter says he "even like[s] the one where he turns into a werewolf [Sonic Unleashed]." And rest assured, he got into this year's Sonic Mania.

"I just keep wanting to play Sonic games — because they're fun. I hope they keep making them."

News:: Contemplate life in 'Far From Noise' on PS4 November 14th

Next week sees the arrival of Far From Noise, a narrative game for PS4. The game takes place over a single day and night and during that time, your character is trapped in a car balancing on the edge of a cliff. As you rock back and forth over the edge, you'll have conversations -- with yourself and with a companion that approaches your car. You can discuss all sorts of things including why you ended up where you are, where the stranger is from, nature, life and death.

News:: Europe pretty much kicked North America's ass on day one of the Rocket League World Championship

It's pretty commonly accepted that Europe is ahead of North America when it comes to Rocket League talent. European teams have taken the RLCS title in seasons 2 and 3. If day one of Season 4's RLCS World Championship was any indication, it's trending toward a three-peat.

Of the four quarter-final showdowns between North American and European teams (the two Oceania representatives were sent to the lower bracket in the first round), Europe won three of them. Ghost was the only North American squad to stay in the upper bracket with a 3-2 victory over Mock-It in the best-of-five series.

Actually, most of the matchups were thrilling right down to the final minute. European top seed Gale Force had the only convincing win of the quarter-finals, topping G2 3-1. Gale Force has a lot of LAN experience and are one of the few favorites to win the entire thing. Members Kaydop and ViolentPanda have each reached the Grand Finals in the past, and Turbopolsa won it last year with Northern Gaming.

But, it was the last series of the day that proved to be the most surprising. North American top seed Cloud9 (whose improbable RLCS run I chronicled earlier this week) lost to Europe's #4 Paris Saint-Germain in a five-game series, with the deciding game going to a four-minute overtime.

It didn't have to get that far, though. Cloud9 player Squishy made a critical error in regulation time, botching an easy clear by accidentally side-flipping while trying to double jump. It's the type of error you don't really see at this level, especially considering there wasn't anyone in the vicinity to disrupt him. After the match, Squishy simply tweeted "Kill me."

RLCS has a double elimination format, and the lower bracket looks absolutely fierce right now. Assuming NRG handles its business against Oceania's Chiefs ESC, they'll meet Cloud9 in a match that sees the loser defeated. A lot of talent is going to leave the tournament in one fell swoop. But, 9 of the 10 teams have to lose at some point, no matter how talented they are. It just so happens that Europe looked like the better region on day one.

RLCS resumes tomorrow at 1pm Eastern/10am Pacific.

News:: More Snipperclips is a very good thing

It's become easier to overlook early Nintendo Switch successes like Snipperclips now that we have Super Mario Odyssey and even Doom of all things to occupy our time on the system, but I hope you don't forget about it. The puzzle-solving, friend-annoying cooperative platform game is back with DLC.

The $10 add-on offers up "new comic book and toy box worlds, three new Blitz games, and a new Stamp mode," plus the ability to replay levels as alternately-shaped characters. It's all right here!

If you're new to Snipperclips, Nintendo is also bundling everything as Snipperclips Plus: Cut It Out, Together! and that's priced at $30. (If that seems high, keep in mind the original game was $20.)

I'm hoping to crack into the new stuff this weekend.

News:: Surgeon Sim studio cancels its skateboarding game Decksplash

Bossa Studios had a curious little skateboarding game in development called Decksplash that caught our attention at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, the key word here is had -- it's no longer in development. While cancellations happen all the time, the nature of this one is pretty interesting.

The developers set a goal to bring in 100,000 players during a promotional event in which players could try Decksplash for free for one week. If enough people showed up, Bossa would release the game on Steam Early Access and continue from there. If the player count fell short, that'd be the end of it.

They didn't make it. "The Free Week proved what we suspected at the start: Decksplash is a good game, evidenced by its 79-86 Steam score throughout the week," said the team. "The players who experienced the game liked it, but in the end there just wasn't enough of them to guarantee a healthy online community and keep the game's matchmaking alive for the long run."

It's a shame, because clearly some people were into this skateboarding-slash-arena-control game, but not enough to sustain it. There's no shortage of good multiplayer-centric games that failed to catch on, so it's commendable to see Bossa give this a fair shot without burning its players in the process.

"The lesson to take home is that, though not the best, this outcome is a good one for everyone involved: its players won't spend money on a game that won't survive the long haul, the team can move on to a new Bossa project with a sense of closure having done their best with Decksplash, and we tried a new way of validating a multiplayer game. Should we have cancelled the game without this experiment, a 'what if' would always be there in the back of our minds."

News:: Little Nightmares is back with another chapter

The Runaway Kid is still on the run in the second DLC chapter for Tarsier Studios' Little Nightmares, and who can blame 'em? There are some spine-chilling creeps aboard The Maw.

This latest side-story, "The Hideaway," is set in the vessel's engine area where scurrying little Nomes can lend a helping hand. The add-on is out now for $4 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and it's also available as part of the $10 expansion pass and the $30 Complete Edition of Little Nightmares.

News:: Nintendo reportedly plans to ramp up Switch production in 2018

The Switch, Nintendo's latest hybrid console is doing pretty well for the company, which expects it to outdo the Wii U's lifetime sales within a year. The company obviously thinks so, too, according to a new report at The Wall Street Journal, which says that Nintendo plans to ramp up production of the hardware itself, beginning in April 2018.

News:: Prototype Mansion is a grainy, goofy nod to Resident Evil

Prototype Mansion presents itself as a bargain-bin disc. Its box art isn't art at all, really, it's just more a callback to the kinds of games you'd find at a thrift store or yard sale; a plain plastic CD case, conspicuously missing any front-facing inserts. A yellow price sticker tags the bottom of the image, suggesting this game could be yours for two bucks. The problem is that it's impossible to know what, exactly, the game is. Right where the disc's title should be, there's a single piece of tape. It blocks out what's underneath, obscuring its original intent. Instead, this "prototype" is what you get, according to the rigid, assured letters on the tape.

If it sounds like I'm spending way too many words talking about a digital game's fake box art, I'm sorry. It's important though, I swear. You see, that bargain-bin bootleg spirit is so baked into Prototype Mansion that I can't help but obsess over it. It's a game for everyone who ever went to a video store and rented the weird horror flicks with derivative titles and lowest common denominator scares. It's a send-up to that specific period when games were as silly as they were spooky.

More than anything, Prototype Mansion is a shuffling, grainy nod to Resident Evil.

News:: Discord makes it easier to jump into your friends' games

Gaming chat app Discord is quickly becoming a full-fledged social network. The latest move toward this is the ability to set a status for yourself and let folks know what game you're playing. More than that, Discord is launching an entire SDK (called "Rich Presence") so developers can directly integrate the app within their games, which should make joining your friends for a round of Call of Duty: WWII (one of the first supported titles) a little easier. "It gives players a clear at-a-glance understanding of what their friends are playing, how they are playing it, where they are at in the game and a one-click way to jump in and join," CEO Jason Citron said in a statement.

News:: Mimikyu wants to 'snuggle forever' in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon

Mimikyu has got to be one of the better Pokémon in recent memory. It just looks so defenseless, like a discarded, unloved Pikachu knock-off. But there's something sinister underneath its ragged exterior.

Per its Pokédex entries in Sun and Moon, "it conceals its terrifying appearance beneath an old rag so it can get closer to people and other Pokémon. A scholar who saw what was under its rag was overwhelmed by terror and died from the shock."

When the lore in these games gets dark, it really gets dark. Anyway, let's all watch as Mimikyu grows in size to swallow up a Tyranitar with its cloth. Don't worry, though. It's simply "snuggling."

News:: I do not object to the Ace Attorney series coming to Switch

Capcom's support for the Nintendo Switch has been a bit lacking, to say the least. So far it's been nothing but ports of older titles. One might think that is a recipe for disaster, but that's not been the case. Ultra Street Fighter II: The New Challengers sold more than Capcom thought it would and Monster Hunter XX has been a "stalwart performer" for the company since its launch in Japan.

Perhaps it's finally seen the writing on the wall. In a recent interview with Jiji, Capcom COO Haruhiro Tsujiro announced the company is developing new titles to release on the Switch in the next fiscal year. The only franchise mentioned by name in this interview blip is Ace Attorney.

Right away, I want to be extremely excited for a new entry in the courtroom series. However, Tsujiro didn't explicitly say the game will be "new." It could be a port of older entries. As much as I would love to see both Ace Attorney Investigations playable on a Switch, I'm not sure I'd care for the rest of the mainline Ace Attorney series to make the jump. I already have those playable on a portable device and they're wonderful. Either way, I imagine we'll find out about this game and the others Capcom has in store sometime next year.

News:: We've got some three-day PAX Unplugged passes to give away

The first ever PAX Unplugged is starting in just one week! It's nice to see a PAX that didn't sell out immediately. In fact, all but the Saturday tickets are still available on the show's website. But you know what? You, dear loyal Destructoid reader/tabletop game enthusiast, might not even need to buy a pass. Because we were able to snag ten of them to give away.

How do you enter? Quote the tweet that corresponds with this post with your favorite board game and the hashtag #PAXUnplugged. That's it! You've got 280 characters to work with now, so you can even tell a short story about why it's your favorite. Ten winners will be selected at random on Tuesday, November 14 from any entrants, and will they be able to pick up a three-day pass at will call in Philadelphia.

If any of you say Monopoly is your favorite, you will be immediately disqualified as you are obviously a scalper trying to snag a badge to sell for that sweet profit. (Not really, but seriously, if Monopoly is your favorite board game, please play more board games.)

You still have to get yourself to Philadelphia, and figure out where to sleep, and keep yourself fed and clothed for the trip, but hey, if you've got that all sorted, you can save yourself the $60 it costs for a three-day pass.

News:: Shoot some B-Ball outside of the school in Street Hoop

The latest Neo-Geo arcade classic to hit modern consoles is 1994's Street Hoop, which is back to bounce on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.

Street Hoop - also known as Street Slam and Dream Dunk - was SNK's attempt to ride the the coat-tails of Midway's arcade smash, NBA JAM, which blew up in '93. The game features three-on-three hard-court action, with ten selectable teams available from around the world, each having their own strengths and weaknesses.

The game also features commentary shamelessly copied from Midway's JAM title, but does at least have an amusing rap soundtrack. A fun bit of trivia; Street Hoop is the inspiration for one-time KOF entrant Lucky Glauber, a member of the "Sports Team" from SNK's crossover title King Of Fighters '94.

Street Hoop is the latest release in HAMSTER's ACA Neo-Geo range, bringing a bevy of 90's MVS titles to modern consoles. It is out now on Switch and Xbox One, priced at $8.

News:: Reggie: The Wii U's failure led to the Nintendo Switch's success

Nintendo basically admitted its mistakes with the Wii U while the console was out. A lot of its failures were due to poor marketing, which can be partially attributed to its color scheme, poor name, and a lack of a firm message as to what the system actually is and what the tablet does. Most people who I introduced the system to had never heard of it, but ended up loving the tablet functionality in Nintendo Land -- alas, that word of mouth from some buyers just wasn't enough.

Speaking to CNN, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime explained that it was all a learning process, stating in response to the Wii U's unclear marketing: " We worked hard for the Nintendo Switch to make it crystal clear what the proposition is. It's a home system that you can take on the go, play anywhere with anyone, and that's resonating. We've addressed [a lack of games] with the Nintendo Switch -- having a steady pace of new launches is critical. Whether it's the big companies like Electronic Arts, or whether it's the smaller independent developer, we need those companies to create content to support us. We have that now with Nintendo Switch."

It seems to be working, too, as Nintendo is ramping up hardware production going into their 2018 fiscal year in April.

News:: Humvee makers file lawsuit against Activision over Call of Duty vehicles

The manufacturers of the famous Humvee, AM General LLC, have filed suit against Activision over the latter's repeated use of the off-road military vehicle in the Call of Duty series. Talks between the two companies have been ongoing for a year, but have apparently broken down as litigation is now on the cards.

The complaint, filed this week in a Manhattan court, has AM accuse Activision of "taking advantage of their goodwill and reputation". The complaint goes on to make claims that the billion-dollar CoD franchise grew "at the expense of AM General and consumers who are deceived into believing that AM General licenses the games or is somehow connected with or involved in the creation of the games.”

The case is based around the concept of Trade Dress, which protects recognisable shapes and designs, with AM claiming that the vehicles that populate multiple iterations of the series violate the trade dress of the world-famous "Hummer."

AM also stated that that use of the Humvee is "a key selling feature of the games," which is stretching it a tad. AM are unhappy with the vehicle's appearance in games, promotional materials, toys, on strategy guides and at live events. They are demanding compensatory, punitive and triple damage costs from Activision. The case continues.

News:: Sony is producing more PlayStation Move units to support PSVR

While one of the first instincts for Sony is to cut and run when a new accessory is out, the PlayStation VR has been one of the more successful VR headsets released in the past few years. The affordable pricepoint and low barrier of entry are probably a large reason why, and Sony is going to keep trucking with it.

According to a report, Sony is going to increase its PlayStation Move production to meet demand for the PlayStation VR. For those of you who have a few collecting dust (or avoided them altogether), they're like little controller wands that worked for a select few games on PS3, but were resurrected on PS4 to use in VR.

It's a nice sentiment and PSVR has some great games, but after playing VR with the Oculus Touch, it's really hard to go back to anything else.

News:: Destiny 2 will be getting PS4 Pro and Xbox One X updates in December

First off I have to crush your hopes and dreams -- Bungie is not bringing a 60FPS update to the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro for Destiny 2. They already said the PS4 Pro can't handle it, and I seriously doubt that they're going to just hand over a massive advantage to the publisher that doesn't have exclusive content, so we're probably stuck in 30FPS limbo with that.

No, instead they're bringing HDR to both upgraded consoles. Alongside of the December 5 Curse of Osiris DLC, Bungie will also employ a 4K HDR update. The key is, the Xbox One X seems to be rendering it natively, while the PS4 Pro will still employ its existing method of checkerboard rendering, just in HDR.

This whole console processing war is fascinating. At the moment we have a machine that's more powerful than the competition in the Xbox One X, but select developers seem to be hesitant to fully take advantage of it. The same goes for full PS4 to Xbox cross-play -- we still need Sony to give the go-head on it.

News:: The Amazon strides into battle in latest Dragon's Crown Pro trailer

Following last week's look at The Fighter, Atlus have released the second in their series of trailers showcasing the heroes of revamped RPG-brawler Dragon's Crown Pro, coming to PS4 early next year.

This time it is the turn of the mighty Amazon, a powerful-yet-agile warrior who excels in crowd control due to her long-range weaponry and push-back combo strings. This popular character somehow combines the awe-inspiring beauty of an fantasy princess with the body of 1999 Scott Steiner. Amazon is one of the most striking and unique characters in the Dragon's Crown universe.

Also featured below is a video giving fans a sample of the game's soundtrack, which was re-recorded with full orchestral backing. A three-disc release of the score will be bundled with the game's Special Edition.

Dragon's Crown Pro is currently set for release on PS4 in Japan on February 8, 2018. There is still no news of a Western release so far, which is making one most blue indeed.

News:: Refunds are going out for Age of Empires: Definitive Edition pre-orders

It's not news that Forgotten Empires is taking more time to finish Age of Empires: Definitive Edition (the game was delayed to 2018 almost a month ago), but there is more to that story than the typical "Sorry for the wait" and "Thanks for understanding" messages. It's a good upate, though. Mostly.

It seems that some pre-orders were "mistakenly charged ahead of schedule" and, as a result, the studio needs to issue refunds. Anyone affected by the errant charge will get their money back and Rise of Nations: Extended Edition on Windows 10 for free. Expect to hear more "within the next week."

Lastly, everyone who pre-orders will be invited to the Age of Empires closed beta, with sign-ups available over here. That should help pass the time until launch. That said, all pre-orders, charged or otherwise, were canceled as part of the refunding process. So if you still want in, you'll need to reorder.

"We're dedicated to treating this 20-year-old classic with the respect it deserves as a hallmark of video game history," said the developers, "and we're so happy to have your support in doing everything we can to make that happen."

News:: Nintendo is apparently increasing their Switch production to 25-30 million units next year

Let's break down how well the Switch is doing for a moment. Right now, the Switch is sitting on roughly 7.5 million units sold in eight months worldwide -- that's based off a number at the start of October, so it's likely higher, and Nintendo is waiting for holiday/Black Friday sales to give us another figure. To put this into perspective, the Wii U sold 13.5 million units worldwide before it was discontinued. In other words, the Switch could beat the Wii U in under a year with a big holiday marketing push, and in all likelihood it'll eclipse it early in 2018.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that to accommodate for this momentum, Nintendo is increasing their Switch production to "around 25 to 30 million units" for the upcoming fiscal year, which kicks off in April 2018. There's contingency plans if that aforementioned holiday madness ends up being a thing, but the ever crazier notion is that some experts suggest that one day, the Switch might end up beating the Wii's sales.

Clocking in at over 101.5 million units, as the sixth best-selling system of all time (directly behind the PlayStation with under a million units to go), that's a taller order. But never say never! Let's keep an eye on the Switch as it continues to grow and more third-party developers support it.

There are 17 giclee prints in total, ranging from the chilly Irithyll of the Boreal to the desolate Kiln of the First Flame to the towering High Wall of Lothric. They're limited-edition and fall on the pricier side of most gaming prints, going anywhere from $89 all the way up to $145.
