News::The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct Is The Worst Game Ive Played This Year

Kotaku: "Sometimes, a bad video game can feel a bit like that. You're playing, preoccupied with tutorials and introductory cinematic sequences, not yet fully aware of the jankiness that lurks in the shadows. Eventually, the game hits its stride and its crapiness gets right up to your face, groaning and snapping its teeth. Terminal Reality's new game The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct does not indulge in such ambiguity. Both the zombie apocalypse and the game's utter badness are readily apparent within the first five minutes."

News::TERA: Rising breaks one-million-player mark after F2P

TERA: Rising (previously known as TERA Online), has found success in its newly found free-to-play system, as En Mass Entertainment is reporting that it has risen to 1.4 million users to date, which is a decent milestone for MMOs not named World of Warcraft.

Chris Lee, CEO of En Masse Entertainment is optimistic of the game's growth, stating, “we’ve been blown away by the waves of players logging into TERA, and we’re seeing amazing growth in both registrations and daily users. It’s always great to eclipse the one-million-player mark, and at our current rate, it won’t be long before we hit two million.”

To celebrate, special loot-filled BAMs (Big Ass Monsters), which basically function like world raid bosses, are hitting random locations in TERA from March 20th to the 24th.

I enjoyed my time with TERA, having played it at launch. It was an incredibly fun, action-packed game that happened to suffer from a bit of a grind. Since the transition to free-to-play, said grind is a bit more forgivable considering you can just jump back in at your convenience.

Whether or not The Elder Scrolls Online follows suit is anyone's guess, but if done right, free-to-play MMOs are a force to be reckoned with.

News::Strategy-Hungry Gamers Pledge $40,000 to Kickstarter in 24 Hours

The turn-based strategy genre used to be a big hitter on PC and even managed to leak onto consoles occasionally. That was a long time ago though, and if you want something similar today you'll need to be content with going with something a little older or something that's not exactly what you want. Maybe that's why KING Art Games are making Battle Worlds: Kronos, and why 1000 gamers hungry for a return of their favourite genre have given almost $40,000 towards the game, through Kickstarter, in a mere 24 hours.

"f you grew up with gaming in the late 80s and early 90s, many descriptions come to mind: simple, colorful, entertaining, addictive, and frustrating. Though the last one sounds rather terrible, it wasnt especially after learning certain patters and hints in classic side-scrolling games, because who didnt like finally becoming the champion after several failed attempts? The above statements represent everything You Have to Win The Game stands for. J. Kyle Pittman set out to create the perfect throwback of every delightfully addictive yet frustrating game he experienced as a child. News::Presspauseradio.com's Quarter Circle Forward Review: Antichamber

"It's easy to forget sometimes that the skills we've picked up through various videogames will often help us towards the next one. Experienced players will often rely on the reflexes that so many games have enforced on us before without even questioning it's use in another game completely. In a way we've all been building up skills since the first game we played, gradually making us better equipped for the next adventure in our paths. Antichamber however wants you to forget all that and start again. A game built on breaking preconceptions and tropes of game design Antichamber seems to want you to forget all the puzzle solving skills you've ever learned so far. As you can probably tell this is harder and more challenging then it seems but the surprising fact is that forgetting everything you once knew about game design and resetting the way you think is also way more fun and rewarding than it has any right to be. In fact it's damn near genius at times." -Presspauseradio.com

News::The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct Interview

Bill Jones Ink recently did an interview with Terminal Reality principal FX artist/system designer Glenn Gamble about Activision's The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, based on the AMC license. Among the topics discussed was the controversial fan trailer based on early footage that earned the game some negative attention. Gamble said: "All things considered, a lot has to do with whenever we capture video and stuff, weve got computer with the best monitors and graphics cards, or we can record right off the Xbox, which I know is not something everybody has access to. Its one of those things when you get a copy of a copy, and you dont know the source, you can say, 'Dont judge a book by its cover.' Alien Spidy is like a bad relationship: It's that game that you obsess over for days at a time, eyes bleary from lack of sleep as you try to perfect your score but quietly, resentfully, wonder why you aren't quitting it at the same time. It's the kind of game that would have thrived on the NES: simple in concept and basic design, but at the same time obtusely difficult and uncompromising in gameplay and its objectives. News::Crysis 3 Review | GamesTM

GamesTM: "Technology is a key part of Crysis 3s identity. While its environments combine the lush surrounds of the original title with the urban jungle of its sequel, they play second fiddle to the depiction of near-future technology. Similarly, characterisation and narrative development give way to a customisable weapon set and the versatile upgrade options of the iconic Nanosuit. By facilitating a player-led approach to combat, Crysis 3s six hour, single-player campaign is as fun as you make it. However, the multiplayer mode is soon to have competition from Cryteks own free-to-play Warface. These individual facets combine to put Crysis 3 in a peculiar position and mean that, while its worth the entrance fee, it may soon find itself redundant."

Monster Hunter Tri came out for the Wii in 2009, and now Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is an expanded version, made available for the Wii U and 3DS. It has updated visuals, more weapons, more quests, and of course, more monsters. With such a hefty amount of content added, it definitely feels more like an expansion than just a few add-ons.

This is a very particular type of game, one that forces the player to learn its intricacies in order to progress. News::Steam adds 'early access' section for unfinished games

Valve has launched a new section on Steam called Early Access which better organizes "games that evolve as you play them, as you give feedback, and as the developers update and add content." You'll find familiar names like Arma 3 , Prison Architect , and StarForge .

Going one step further, "early access" games feature a hard-to-miss disclaimer and developer blurb on their individual Steam pages. Hopefully, the added transparency will lessen confusion for folks who still aren't used to seeing alphas and the like on the platform.

Seems like a good idea. This allows Steam to have work-in-progress games for those of us who don't mind being early adopters, and also makes it clear which titles fall under that category so everyone else can avoid them.

News::Pixelitis Picks: The glorious use of licensed music in games

"We all love videogame music very much, but thats not to say that licensed music is a detriment to a players experience. In fact, when appropriately used within a game, it can be one of the most standout things someone will take away from playing it. Just ask anybody whos played the original Tony Hawks Pro Skater. Youd be hard-pressed to find someone who didnt remember the iconic inclusion of Superman by Goldfinger, or perhaps even Jerry Was a Racecar Driver by Primus. The control scheme demanded precision and each level was significantly more difficult than the last. News::Next-gen Carmageddon: Reincarnation gets more funding

Even after last year's Kickstarter and additional investment in the project, it's still hard to believe that Carmageddon is really coming back. Especially knowing that the new game, Carmageddon: Reincarnation, will be arriving on "next-gen platforms." Stainless Games recently brought in $3.5 million from a new round of funding thanks to Bullfrog Productions founder Les Edgar.

"I have always had a great belief in Stainless, and I really admire their continued success as one of the leading indie dev studios," he said. "The Carmageddon name is one we all want to see rise again, and I know that in the hands of its original creators, we're bound to get the best out of the brand. I'm delighted to be on board and helping make the project happen."

According to Stainless CEO Patrick Buckland, this approach "allows us to maintain a true independence and creative control whilst not having to compromise quality or content by budgetary constraints. For an independent, privately owned company to achieve this, is a testament to our strength and to the loyalty of our fans."
