At any given point in Ubisoft’s upcoming extreme winter sports extravaganza you can stop what you’re doing, teleport to a hot air balloon and launch yourself from it wearing a naught more than a half-assed flying squirrel costume.
Volgarr the Viking is a prime example of how old-school design never stopped being fun. There are a bunch of cheaply-placed pitfalls and the difficulty curve is a lot more front-loaded than I'd like, but besting the game's obstacles is an immense joy. Even if I've never achieved the "best" ending, I still feel great for seeing the adventure through to one ending.
Now, PS4 and Vita gamers will be able to revel in viking glory with the game this week. On November 15, Volgarr the Viking will be coming to PS4 and Vita with Cross-Buy support. While this is currently the North American release date, Kris from Crazy Viking Studios confirmed that the European certification process will follow shortly after the US release.

Although I haven't played it yet, I imagine Dishonored 2 is more of the same in that sense. There's the advantage of choice in playing as either Corvo or Emily, but it'll otherwise be a lot like the first game -- especially for players like me. Waiting, waiting, waiting before finally feeling comfortable enough to make a sliver of progress.
That's not at all what it's like for Australian speedrunner Voetiem. It's early, but he's the world record-holder for Dishonored 2. Yesterday, he uploaded this video of him clearing the game in 32:17 with the load times subtracted out. He blinks right through the stages as Corvo, finishing all of them before most people could get through a single level.
It's impressive, but it's also probably far from optimized. Given the staggering number of paths and techniques to get through Dishonored 2, we can likely expect this record to fall quicker than those who wronged Corvo.

One of the first things you’ll do in Watch Dogs 2 is buy some new clothes. As both a fan of fashion and a judgemental person, I was ready to roll my eyes. Little did I know that the clothes in this game are all fantastic.
Over the past four-and-a-half years, Telltale has been on a mission to make games with its unique style of storytelling that are based on any sort of popular franchise. From The Walking Dead to Game of Thrones to Minecraft -- Telltale will seemingly try to partner with anyone if the appeal is broad enough.
One of its next projects looks to go hand-in-hand with a piece of media that will have some of the most mass appeal: A blockbuster comic book movie. As reported by USGamer, the recent SAG-AFTRA voice actors' strike lists Guardians of the Galaxy as one of the titles its not striking against. It's placed right next to The Walking Dead: Season 3, and both games are named under O'Farrell Enterprises which is the production company that handles a lot of the voice over for Telltale.
This reveal falls right in line with a report from April 2015 that Telltale inked a deal with Marvel to create a game based on one of its properties. That project was said to be scheduled for 2017. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 releases on May 5, 2017. Everything lines up perfectly.
We've reached out to Telltale Games for comment on this issue. We haven't received a response at time of publishing. We'll update this article if/when Telltale responds.
Marvel's Guardian of the Galaxy Is Telltale's Next, Just in Time for the Movie [Report] [USGamer]
Horizon Zero Dawn developer Guerrilla Games has spent a lot of time making experiences that are, in some ways, the exact opposite of Horizon. The studio is best known for the Killzone games, first-person shooters that are mostly linear in nature. Horizon Zero Dawn is its first crack at an open-world game.
This new video from Guerrilla shines a light on some of the difficulties and opportunities that an open world presented. "When we were making Killzone, we were making linear levels, we had very tight control," art director Jan-Bart Van Beek says in the video. "That's very different from an open world where the player has a lot more freedom to approach things the way that they want to see it. We had to start looking at the world from a 360 (degree) point of view, maybe looking at all the different directions that the player could approach, how things would look, how the vistas would look, all these different aspects."
More than just taking player freedom into consideration, Guerrilla wants to make the different parts of Horizon Zero Dawn feel unique. We get glimpses of the desert and mountain "eco-topes," as well as the forest one that was shown at E3. Van Beek explains that these will have their own weather tendencies that introduce new challenges to feats the player routinely accomplishes in other eco-topes.
Of course, a two-minute video can't give us a good sense of how well the different environments and weather patterns work. But, it can give the impression that Horizon Zero Dawn's world seems absolutely fantastic. Shooting robo-dinosaurs looks neat and all, but playing virtual tourist might be more incredible.
To the left, you’ve got Wailord, as it appears in Pokémon Sun and Moon. To the right, you’ve got Wailord from the Pokémon anime. Notice a difference?

You're going to be hearing a lot more about Pokemon Sun and Moon once the review embargo lifts tomorrow morning, but for now, here's a last-minute trailer you may (or may not, depending on your spoiler stance!) want to catch. I'm sure you know the drill by now given all the leaks.
This particular video shows the starter trio's eventual Z-Move attacks, some of the wild-looking "Ultra Beasts," and the irreplaceable Alola forms of Diglett and Dugtrio. Those locks are luscious.
I truly hope future games in the series continue this regional variant concept.

Sometimes you come across a game premise and think, “Why aren’t there already tons of games like this? It’s such an obviously good idea.” As soon as I saw footage of Driving Survival, my imagination flew into overdrive.
HOLY SHIT THERES A TRUMP PROTEST ON CLUB PENGUIN RIGHT NOW http://pic.twitter.com/tY33Hq2mvi
— Lourdes (@gossipgriII) November 13, 2016
You read that right. I did some gonzo journalism and joined up with an ongoing "Not my president" anti-Donald Trump protest in Disney's kid-friendly Club Penguin. Judging by the above tweet, the protest has been going on for hours and doesn't look to be stopping anytime soon.
When I joined the blizzard server as DaddysBoy369 (12YOWithoutSupervision69 was too long), I was greeted by tons of other penguins repeatedly saying "Not my president" and "I'm with her." As you'd expect there were a few anti-protestors there trying to quell the voices of their fellow penguins, though they were having trouble coming up with anything deeper than "I'm with him" and "He is my president."
Am I a real journalist yet? Does this mean I get my checkmark on Twitter? Please?

Several staff members here at Destructoid have picked up a PS4 Pro, and are working on impressions for you, but in the meantime, you can watch Keiichi Aoki, Director of Mechanical Design at Sony rip the thing open.
The following video is useful for a number of different reasons, most notably that it shows you how to disassemble the individual pieces of hardware in case you ever decide to make tweaks. It's a similar process to the original PS4, but the clip does a good job of breaking down the alterations with the Pro.
It's always nerve-wracking to go under the hood, especially given the warranty implications and the fact that it's possible that you might not actually be able to put it together again. By the end of the video the thing is in pieces to the point where you may as well build your own PS4 from scratch. He also, uh, doesn't re-assemble it at the end, so proceed with caution!

Throughout its four iterations, Super Smash Bros. has changed more than its frame rates. YouTuber Master 0f Hyrule put together a video showing how Mario’s, Donkey Kong’s, Captain Falcon’s and other Smash mainstays’ “Smash” attacks have evolved over the last 16 years.
Minecraft just got a big new update on PC and Mac. Titled the Exploration Update, it adds maps that lead you to special (and perilous) treasure locations, an evil counterpart to Villagers called—not joking—“Illagers,” woodland mansion dungeons, and llamas that’ll transport your loot.
Geoff Keighley's YouTube show is still trucking, and the last episode had WB producer Doug Heder on to show off the Sonic the Hedgehog level pack for LEGO Dimensions -- and surprise, it looks...not bad?
Time and time again Sega has tried the 3D Sonic thing, and in recent years has been going back to 2D and remixing Green Hill Zone more than all of us can possibly count. That's the case yet again with the Dimensions level, which you can get a brief look at towards the end of the video along with some shots of the physical toy.
I still can't believe that Gremlins, E.T., Sonic, and Batman are all in the same game. It's such a messy way to sell 'member berries, but it helps that many of LEGO Dimensions' level designs are actually good.

Love it or hate it, Rainbow Six: Siege has been doing pretty well for Ubisoft. Their DLC model for the game has allowed all players to access new maps without paying and given the impatient a way to quickly unlock new classes (through stinky microtransactions). It may not be ideal, but it certainly hasn't excluded anyone for not ponying up.
It has now been confirmed that a second year of content will be coming to the destruct-a-thon. The official Rainbow Six Twitter account let the news loose with a simple tweet confirming as much.

As you may have heard, Blizzard is re-creating the original Diablo in Diablo III as a once a year event going forward. Each January you'll be able to access the original dungeon with all four original bosses by way of an added questline called "The Darkening of Tristram" with bonus retro visuals, and you can test it out now on the PTR if you own a copy of Reaper of Souls.
All you have to do is log into the PTR version, select a character that's cleared up to the "Old Ruins [of Tristram]" location, then head to that waypoint from the map. Walk towards the center near the fountain and you'll find a blue portal that leads directly to the event. There's a few quests strewn about the extra area, but it's mostly a kill-fest.
If you haven't already, you can also copy over all of your characters from the live version -- just look for an icon in the top right hand corner of the main menu.

We're in an era where we can get brand new original Dreamcast shoot 'em ups and SNES platformers. While publishers are basically remaking every classic game in their catalog they can get their hands on, we also have a collective of indie developers that fondly remember the old days and want to re-introduce them to a new generation.
One of those developers is Big Evil Corporation, who is holding a crowdfunding campaign for Tanglewood -- a pnew Genesis game featuring a fox named Nymn who is separated from his pack. It looks like it takes clear cues from the Disney era of platformers, and is set to release physically in 2017 in cartridge form.
While it hasn't wowed me at all I'm really glad we still have people creating concepts like this with old hardware. There's room on my plate for reliving the past and looking towards the future.
