News::SXSW 2014: New Details for Tales from the Borderlands

Gamnesia: "The story of how this game ever even happened revolves around alcohol. The guys from both studios got together and just started talking about a collaboration. Telltale felt that Borderlands had a rich world with a really great narrative, and they felt it would be a good fit to make a game about Borderlands with the style of Telltale Games. Many fans these days fail to recall Telltale's history of funny games Sam and Max, for example, or Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People so Borderlands' tendency for humor fits well with them, and they're a bit relieved to be moving away from the darker stories of The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us."

News::EA Can't Survive if Titanfall is a Failure

From the iAmXbox.com feature editorial: "More than a year ago, on March 5th, 2013, Electronic Arts released the highly anticipated SimCity and nobody was able to play it. The servers were immediately overwhelmed and thousands of people all over the country were not able to play the game they spent their hard-earned money on. The game was downloaded onto their computer, their internet was working fine, but EA severely underestimated the popularity of SimCity and their servers were unprepared for the masses. Gamers were pissed."

News::SXSW 2014: Panel with the CEO of EA, Andrew Wilson

Gamnesia: "The interviewer continued by asking about EA's misses and mistakes, specifically citing NBA Live, and how the company has learned from those errors. As Wilson put it, constructive feedback occurs when you don't fulfill certain motivations. That was a nice way to address critics or people upset in comments sections. Making games is hard, and when things are judged subjectively, it makes it even harder. You can be conservative and not push the boundaries, but Wilson would rather be in a company that doesnt conform to that mentality. Because of that, there are going to be some missteps. NBA Live was a game that needed to go back to the drawing board, and the team wanted to do what was necessary to make a quality product. Of course, you can't talk about EA and errors without bringing up the recent difficulties with Battlefield 4, and that's exactly where the interview went next. When asked how Battlefield would be fixed, Wilson claimed that innovation determines the qu...

News::VRFocus Preview: Proteus with the Oculus Rift

VRFocus - Even after three playthroughs, Proteus remains something of a mystery. First reaching PC in late January 2013, this is a procedurally generated experience in which players explore a relatively small island. In a sense its reminiscent of 2012s Dear Esther in that all you can do is simply take in the sights, though in reality the vivid pixel art, lack of direct narrative, surreal audio and constantly-changing world make it a different beast. Now a small team is porting original developers Ed Key and David Kanagas vision to virtual reality (VR) with Oculus Rift-compatibility. An early hands-on suggests that this new version is set to add another layer to this small 2D treat.

News::Hello Hero Review | MMOGames

Heroes are usually depicted to be solitary champions who can more than fend for themselves. This approach makes them more gallant, in a sense, because they can overcome seemingly insurmountable odds and deliver justice (usually in the form of a knuckle sandwich) in the face of wrongdoers. However, heroes nowadays have been doing away with the lone wolf mentality and instead have been joining forces with other caped (and non-caped) crusaders. Usually, they team up because of a force thats too strong for them to combat alone. Team work and unity have been the paramount battle cries as of late; working as a unit will spell victory or defeat!

News::The Walking Dead Season Two: A House Divided Review | Geekenstein

"After the end of Season One, I found myself surprised when Telltale announced that they were going to continue the series. I mean, I couldnt wrap my head around what more could happen after the climactic ending of season one. However, it all began to make sense once Clementine was announced as the new protagonist. Like most of you, All That Remains left me restlessly waiting for the continuation of TellTales beautiful exploration into human nature, and at last, the wait is over. A few months after the debut of the new season and its new protagonist, Telltale is finally continuing the story with A House Divided, a great follow-up on the first episode of the season that providing some essential backstory to Clementines new group and further deepens the relationships introduced in All That Remains." - Jake Petersen of Geekenstein

News::TeamVVV.com Weekly Racing Video Game News Episode 16: Recycled Relics

VVV: "Yes, it's that time of the month again: this week's most notable racing game news story was the release of yet another 10 car DLC pack for Forza Motorsport 5. Too bad the majority of it was recycled relics from Forza 4, much to the dismay of the internet. Compare this to the release of the coveted Koenigsegg One:1, the speedy Sweedish supercar unveiled at this week's Geneva motorshow that's already being touted as the fastest road car in the world , for Need for Speed: Rivals free of charge. It's a welcome gesutre, given the extortinate cost of the previous DLC packs.

Vertiginous Golf is kind of like a mishmash of Bioshock Infinite and Putt-Putt. The surreal 2004 Shockwave game VertiGolf drained many hours of my teenage life. Now the team at Surprise Attack has taken the browser-based floaty island golfer and blown it up into a fully fledged sequel. With pipes, gates, jets and magic carpets, you might mistake the course in Vertiginous Golf for a gigantic steampunk Rube Goldberg machine. And partly, it is. This isnt your normal round of golf. Accompanied by a mechanical hummingbird, youre handling a gigantic ornate golden golf club. You wield the power to rewind time, hook and fade your ball and leave a brightly colored stream behind its path of trajectory.

News::Strider Review [The Reticule]

Chris Evans writes "As I hadnt played the 1989 retro version of Strider, I wasnt aware of the dangers of diving in at the Normal difficultly level. It was a devastating mistake to try and play without prior experience at that level, while I slashed my way through the first few areas of normal bad guys, as soon as I came upon the first boss, I was toast. There was no way I was getting past this guy without knowing more of the ins and outs of the game. I didnt give up though, not one bit. I returned to the main menu, selected New Game and started once more on Easy. Without that easier difficulty mode I might have thrown my controller through my monitor due to the frustration."
