News:: Blizzard is giving out a bunch of stuff for StarCraft's 20th anniversary

Blizzard is currently celebrating StarCraft's 20th anniversary, and if you're so inclined, you can score some freebies in a number of games by logging in, including a Kerrigan skin for Widowmaker in Overwatch and a Battlecruiser pet in Diablo III. The studio has another bonus for StarCraft II today.

To claim the Protoss co-op commander, just head into the gift tab. That's it!

Fenix recently made the rounds in Heroes of the Storm, so it's nice to see him stay in the limelight. This particular giveaway lasts until April 3, and there's a big anniversary stream happening tomorrow.

I regret not spending more time with co-op missions in StarCraft II. I somehow keep forgetting they exist, and even though I like them in theory, I never gave them the proper chance to win me over.

News:: Promoted: Bubble Bobble is the stupidest game ever

[Remember Bubble Bobble? Cornerstone of modern gaming, Bubble Bobble? Well Goemar is here to remind us of the pain he personally underwent, regardless of your opinion of Bubble Bobble. Now be reminded of Bubble Bobble! ~Marcel]

First things first, I'm not saying I don't like Bubble Bobble. No. Bubble Bobble is great, I love Bubble Bobble, but man oh man, is it a dumb game.

So in Bubble Bobble you play as "Bubby" or "Bobby". I'm pretty sure Bubby isn't a real name. The kids are brothers (twins I assume) so it's easy to see that Robert/Bob/Bobby is the more loved child, because you don't call a child you like Bubby.

News:: In only a few days, someone made de_dust2 in Far Cry 5

One of the coolest features in Far Cry 5 is the ability for users to create their own maps. While this isn't new for the series (this was present in the original game on both PC and Xbox), the flexibility of the new tools means you can create basically anything with relative ease. Apart from everyone recreating "World 1-1" from Super Mario Bros. as soon as they can, "de_dust2" tends to find its way into every game.

So it only makes sense that one of Counter-Strike's most iconic maps is now playable in Far Cry 5. You won't be able to escort hostages or defuse bombs, but every other facet of dust2 is present. Even without having played Counter-Strike in years, I remember every corner of this desert wonder. Why not check out the map for yourself?

News:: Downward Spiral: Horus Station has a new take on zero-gravity games

Two minutes into my GDC appointment to play Downward Spiral: Horus Station (it has nothing to do with the Nine Inch Nails album, I checked), I floated painstakingly slowly across a small room. It was my own fault. I had weakly pushed off of a wall and inertia did its job. There was no way to speed up or change direction; I just had to wait until I reached some piping so that I could try again.

Downward Spiral takes place in zero-gravity, and it stays true to that premise. Locomotion can feel clunky and unsure until you train yourself to stop trying to move like you're playing every other game. It has a meaty feel to it, not unlike the cumbersome climbing motions in Firewatch. It takes effort and planning, and that's an interesting approach when most games just ask that you push forward to go forward.

The Finnish company behind Downward Spiral, 3rd Eye Studios, probably wants to do more with the setting because it has some familiarity in that area. While the development team has plenty of experience in games (Alan Wake, Quantum Break, Halo 5, and Ori and the Blind Forest are some of their credits), the lead designer, Greg Louden, brings film expertise to the table. He worked on Gravity and Prometheus in recent years.

News:: Lindsay Lohan's ‘Grand Theft Auto’ suit is on the road to nowhere

Lindsay Lohan has lost the appeal for her lawsuit against Take-Two Interactive, which alleged that the company's studio Rockstar Games used her likeness without permission for a character in Grand Theft Auto V. The case was originally dismissed back in 2016 because, well, it's legal to parody people in video games.

News:: Humble is giving out Spec Ops: The Line with a side of existential dread

Over on the Humble Store, you can now nab a free copy of Spec Ops: The Line. The game has been widely acclaimed for its deconstruction of typical military shooter tropes and some generally gripping scenes of violence that help to shed a light on how jingoistic media tends to paint the military. It is definitely worth a look, if only because of that focus.

I can also confirm the PC port is excellent. It doesn't look dramatically different from the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions, but it offers full key remapping, an incredibly stable framerate and support for 4K resolutions. It was the way I experienced the game back in 2012 and I'm sure the march of technology has only allowed more people to experience it with ease. A few smart fridges might be more powerful than the minimum required specs.

News:: Gaming's most bonable fruit, ranked

2017 was the year fishmen suddenly became sexy. Not just among the weeaboo anime-tentacle-monster crowd, but among mainstream audiences too. It started with rule 34 star Prince Sidon from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild last March but really caught fire when the first trailer for The Shape of Water – the movie everybody on Twitter claimed to invent the phrase “Grinding Nemo” for – debuted online. Don’t know how, don’t know why, but last year ended on a weird note with women across the internet fantasizing about a scaly, salinated South American sea creature that wooed Sally Hawkins out of her clothes and into a sex scene that guaranteed she lost the deposit on her apartment.

Women got hot and heavy over these guys like Troy McClure at an aquarium, prompting articles like this, this, and this. The dildo inspired by Guillermo Del Toro’s creature straight up sold out over Oscar weekend. I guess after a year of learning every man on the planet is a sex monster, a sea monster suddenly didn’t look so bad. Women took one look at Doug Jones’ creepily spread out eyes and decided they, like Kanye, love fish sticks.

You know what ladies? Go ahead. Enjoy your fishmen with their fibroelastic penises and their all-egg-and-cat-head diet. I’m sure that will make for some lovely morning breath. Go ahead and run off into the ocean with your creatures from the lame lagoon because I also learned something from the movies in 2017: we don’t need you anymore. Between Kofi Siriboe with two grapefruits in Girls Trip and Timothée Chalamet going to town on that peach in Call Me By Your Name, it seems to me men can just get by just fine with a nice ripe piece of fruit.

So while you’re still thinking of how fun it would be to have an overgrown Murloch go down on you while signing fewer words than Koko, I’ve compiled this list of the absolute best video game fruit to fuck.

News:: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is backward compatible on Xbox One

If you've held off buying Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered this whole time and you've held onto your original Xbox 360 copy of the game, some good news: it's now backward compatible.

I'm tempted to fire up a few of the more memorable levels like All Ghillied Up and One Shot, One Kill. But not Mile High Club. I still get nightmares about that stressful optional mission.

With a current-gen remaster of Modern Warfare 2 now reportedly in the works, I have to wonder how long it'll take for the original version of that game to join the backward compatibility list.

News:: The Xenogears 20th Anniversary concert to have a paid stream option

Despite how people feel about the follow-ups in the form of the Xenosaga series, Xenogears will forever remain a classic in the hearts of JRPG fans everywhere.

It was such a clean game with an exciting battle system, a great cast, and a fantastic musical score. That latter bit lives on in myriad ways, one of which is a 20th Anniversary concert series in Japan. If you can't catch it though Square Enix is allowing one option -- a paid stream.

For those of you who want in the stream will be a one-time thing, to be held on the last show of the tour on April 8 at 5:00 PM JST (4AM ET that same morning). It'll run you 2,500 yen (roughly $23) and the stream will be running through April 30, so if you can't catch it live (understandable) you can watch it later.

If you're so inclined you can grab your ticket here.

News:: The Piranha Pit returns to Splatoon 2 tomorrow

A classic map from the original Splatoon will return to the arena-shooter's sequel tomorrow, as Piranha Pit will be added to the game's rotational roster of battle arenas.

Piranha Pit is a somewhat aesthetically dull looking map set in a quarry. It is famous for its selection of ramps and conveyor belts, allowing players to trundle against the grain or pick up a burst of speed, depending on which way the floor is currently moving. Although fairly grimy in tone, it rarely takes too long before the exterior is given a splash of colour.

Players have already noted from the released images that the map has been given a graphical overhaul, and also a redesign, particularly around it's central battlefield. But we'll find out how the classic venue holds up to modern day Splatoon action when Piranha Pit goes live, March 30, at 19:00 PT in North America. Europe and Japan, as always, will follow early the next day.

News:: Jurassic World Evolution sets up shop on June 12

The idea of building and operating a dino theme park sounds lovely right now. Frontier Developments is still putting the final touches on Jurassic World Evolution, but it's not far out. The game launches digitally June 12 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, followed by a console-only retail release on July 3.

The trailer ends on back-to-back high notes. First off, the dinosaur being air-lifted behind the roaring Tyrannosaurus rex is the real MVP. It looks so undignified! I'm all about this transportation system.

Second, the video closes with a park guest who's about to be eaten. Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but I intend to play Evolution responsibly and to the best of my ability -- right up until the point at which I intentionally let it all go to hell and send my park into chaos. It's gonna be beautiful.

News:: Japan's Switch sales top four million as of this month

The Switch has had a good year. A very good year actually, because in just under 365 days it managed to peddle roughly 15 million units worldwide. Nearly every country, including many in Europe, managed to break Nintendo hardware sales records and contribute to that number.

A lot of that push is from Japan, who as of this week based on Famitsu's sales tracker chart, just reached the four million sold milestone. This is right below the pace of the Wii, which pushed four  million units in 54 weeks, whereas the Switch took 56 weeks -- still, it's close!

Seeing the Switch fly off the shelves, both literally and figuratively, has been a blast. It's good to see Nintendo back in the game again.

News:: Uprising returns to Overwatch on April 10

It's nearly time for Overwatch's next seasonal event. April 10 will mark the return of Uprising, and if you liked the PvE event even half as much as I did, you'll want to keep that date in mind.

Blizzard hasn't yet said what to expect beyond the co-op brawl itself and "over 100 declassified Loot Box items." However, when director Jeff Kaplan spoke about the team's plans for Overwatch earlier this year, he hinted at the "next iteration" of the event. "We have a lot of really big ideas," he said.

As Moyse reminded me, this will be another chance to try and fail to earn those achievements.

News:: A Kirby Otamatone is coming, and if you haven't heard an Otamatone yet, listen in!

Until this moment I forgot Otamatones existed, and I'm ashamed of myself. I doubt that will ever happen again, as I'm considering importing this Kirby edition Otamatone.

For those of you who haven't seen one before it's kind of like a recorder, but instead of a flute shape it's a giant cartoon head with a stick coming out of it, and it's electronic. If you want to see in action, just check out this video series from Phantom S, who does an amazing job playing Kirby tunes on it.

The Kirby version will be out in stores in Japan sometime in May -- at which point it'll probably hit the import scene.

News:: Penny Punching Princess physical edition cancelled in the UK

NIS America have announced that the physical release of cutesy RPG Penny Punching Princess has been cancelled in the UK. The news dropped just a few days before the game was set to hit the shelves.

Fortunately, Brits wanting to get their hands on the colourful Switch adventure will still be able to purchase the game from the Nintendo eShop on April 3. The publisher has stated that the physical edition was canned when they realised they could not complete all the orders within a reasonable time-frame, so the decision was made to cancel them instead.

If you still want to get your hands on a physical copy, then the Limited Edition is still available exclusively at the official NIS America store. This cancellation does not affect Europe or Australia.

I blame Brexit.

News:: Review: A Way Out

A Way Out dedicated its entire title to only one act of its story. It's a bit deceiving to call this a prison break game (even though, yes, they do eventually get out) because it's a lot of other things too. A Way Out is a revenge saga, a Bonnie and Clyde-like outwit and outrun the cops tale, a bonding adventure, and a guilt trip that masquerades as a road trip.

What's left is this patchwork quilt of pastiche, a B-movie Frankenstein of a million things that have been done in cinema. But as far as video games go, A Way Out is often a brilliant cooperative experience that is legitimately enjoyable -- and that will be enough to convince you to turn a blind eye to a lot of the writing that's as delicate as a sledgehammer.

News:: Rumour: Dragon Ball FighterZ DLC roster datamined after latest update

After yesterday's update to Namco Bandai's Dragon Ball FighterZ went live, fighting game modder Mizumi discovered data within the PC backup files that points to all of the remaining character DLC, or at least for the forseeable future.

The file, which Mizumi states is easily accessible to anybody, features a selection of names hidden behind initials (such as BDN for Bardock and BRS for Broly) The data also contains the Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta and Goku variants, plus six more codenames.

When referenced against a previous leak of DLC characters, there is a snug fit between the codenames and the characters mentioned in the original leak: VTB for Vegito Blue, ZMB for Fused Zamasu, GKN for Goku Normal, VGN for Vegeta Normal, CLF for Cooler and AVP for an Android 17 variant.

Although the above is guesswork, the good names do seem to align well with the game's list of supposedly leaked roster members. If it is true, then it appears variants will be the order of the day going forward. Bardock and Broly are now live in Dragon Ball FighterZ, available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

News:: 'Not Tonight' makes you a bouncer in post-Brexit Britain

In exactly 12 months, Britain will leave the European Union. It's a troubling time for the island state as politicians squabble over exit conditions and citizens grapple with a deep divide in their economic, societal and cultural values. For many, the future looks bleak, but it shouldn't compare to the one found in Not Tonight, an upcoming video game by Tiki Taka Soccer developer Panic Barn. In this alternate version of Britain, one ruled by an extreme right-wing government, you're forced to work as a bouncer that gets paid for identifying and turning away European citizens. It's a horrific job, but one that's necessary to pay the bills and keep your own British citizenship.

News:: Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered is heading to PC, PS4 and Xbox One this year

The very best game in the Red Faction series, Guerrilla, is getting a remaster on PC, PS4 and Xbox One this year. Stupidly titled "Re-Mars-tered," this new port will contain reworked textures with support for 4K resolutions along with brand new shaders, shadow maps and lighting. There isn't mention of whether or not the multiplayer component will be retained, nor what the price is, but the remaster will be launching in Q2 2018.

While I typically groan at the amount of re-releases we see in this industry, Red Faction Guerrilla was easily one of the best open-world games from last generation. That so many people overlooked it due to the series pedigree of decent-ish titles is a shame. Having the ability to swing a hammer at a building and watch it crumble was not only cathartic, but a central design point of most of the missions.

So, yeah, bring on this remaster. Everyone should take a crack at Guerrilla, if only to witness a tower crumble onto a car that then explodes and starts a chain reaction of buildings getting demolished.

News:: As Bloodstained trucks along, Solid Snake, Noctis, Soldier 76, Alucard and more join the voice cast

Bloodstained went from "do they even have an English cast?" to "stacked" in mere moments. Just this week its creators unveiled the English voice talent they've signed, and my goodness it's impressive.

We have Erica Lindbeck as the main heroine Miriam (Persona 5, NieR: Automata, League of Legends), followed by David Hayter (Metal Gear), Ben Diskin (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure), Ray Chase (Final Fantasy XV), Kari Wahlgren (FLCL), Rena Strober (Persona 4, Fire Emblem Fates), Fryda Wolff (Mass Effect, Killer Instinct), Fred Tatasciore (Overwatch), Christoper Swindle, (Transformers: Robots in Disguise) and Robbie Belgrade (Symphony of the Night).

In catching up with Bloodstained, I forgot how ambitious the Kickstarter was, and how so many after it have tuned down the stakes. I mean, PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch are a tall order, but Vita as well? I wouldn't be surprised if the latter was canned, especially given what happened with Mighty No. 9's portable editions.

News:: UK retailer Grainger Games tells its stores to remain closed

Independent UK gaming chain Grainger Games appears to have reached the end of the line. Yesterday, the company contacted a selection of its stores and told them not to open. This morning, the same message was relayed to the rest of its outlets, which are spread across the UK.

Although there has been murmurs recently about the company being in financial distress, there has been no publicly acknowledged signs of actual closure, either through in-store POS or sales etc. But, over the last two days, staff were asked to pack up all stock and have been informed that they will be paid for all hours worked until Sunday (sic) March 31.

The website is closed with immediate effect. There has also been no instruction regarding products that need refunds, outstanding credit notes or for any paid-for but unfulfilled orders. According to Eurogamer, the customer service line is dead and no-one is picking up at Grainger's headquarters.

Video game retail in the UK has been struggling for a long time now. An industry I personally was a part of for well over a decade, I saw many independents which closed down, sold-up, or sold-up and then the buyers closed down. The UK's biggest gaming retailer, GAME, has been dodging the axe for years, narrowly avoiding permanent closure on occasion. This appears to be a sad inevitability of the modern high street. We wish all of Grainger's affected staff members, somewhere in the region of 400 people, the very best.

News:: Mario's new Odyssey outfits are pretty fly

So Super Mario Odyssey hasn't gotten a whole lot in the way of actual DLC outside of Luigi's Balloon World, but that hasn't stopped Nintendo from adding little updates here and there for the past few months.

One such update was just added, and includes two new outfits -- the Satellaview Suit & Helmet and Baseball Uniform & Batting Helmet. You can find these in the post-game shop.

I think there's enough Power Moons to keep me popping in and out of Odyssey for a while (I don't know if I'll ever get around to the jump romp one), but a real expansion would be pretty great at some point!
