News:: Battlefield 1's campaign sure looks shiny

Battlefield 1 has a campaign...I guess. I've never been one to associate the Battlefield series with single-player, even with Bad Company being eight years old. To me, the series has excelled at multiplayer; the basic concept is just so rife with possibilities for online combat. The player count has also been a big plus.

EA and DICE are determined to make gamers embrace a campaign mode in Battlefield and have released a video of pure gameplay footage. Sure, there are some cinematics and a few cutaways, but this is pretty much gameplay and nothing else.

News:: Tonight Show Takes Aim At Overwatch Pro's Handshake Skills

Handshakes can be messy, awkward things. First, there’s the problem of whether or not to shake hands. Then, there’s the problem of what to do if the person whose hand you try to shake isn’t on your wavelength. Finally, there’s the fleshing fumbling that comes with actually trying to lock hands in anything resembling a normal handshake. Hence the ubiquity of the high-five: why attempt to graciously dock your mitten in someone else’s when you can simply slap them together instead?

News:: World Record For Super Mario Bros. Broken By A Single Frame

One of the two closest finishes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series came in 2003 when Ricky Craven edged out Kurt Busch by .002 seconds. The second was nearly a decade later when Jimmie Johnson beat Clint Bowyer by the same. To say that either racer won by a hair would be an understatement.

News:: The NES Classic Edition just makes sense

Things have been a little quiet in the Nintendo world. With a few exceptions in the handheld and mobile device market, there's not a whole lot to be seen from the long-time gaming giant. Many of us are still waiting anxiously for news on the NX, which could break loose at any time.

Among all this hype for new and innovative technology however, there is something a little bit more old school waiting in the wings. Many Nintendo fans (both young and old) appreciate the classic IPs it has to offer and now those gamers can rejoice this holiday season when they get their hands on the NES Classic Edition.

News:: Pokemon Go developers sued by the Netherlands

Thought Pokemon Go was dying? It's not, at least in the Netherlands apparently. A bunch of people have been collecting on protected dunes near the Kijkduin beaches.

Niantic responded to requests to remove support from areas such as the Berlin Holocaust and Hiroshima atomic bomb museums, but have given the Netherlands the cold shoulder, The Guardian reports. So what do you do when a company that has caused damage doesn't respond? You take its ass to court.

Having rare or popular Pokemon as well as Poke-centers appear in historical or important places is good in theory, but people aren't going to suddenly care about where you app has led them. They're going to get that Pokemon and move on to the next location, or the next fad. In any case it looks like Niantic is going to get a little taste of its own banhammer.

News:: Review: Clustertruck

As a child, I would frequently play games of “the floor is lava” when I was bored. What that involved was basically jumping on furniture to avoid touching the carpet, which would “kill” you. Despite my parents not being in favor of my recklessness, I kept trying to up the ante with cushions around the floor and other obstacles.

Somehow, developers never really adopted that into a game. Maybe they thought it was too juvenile or couldn’t think of a strong enough gimmick to wrap around that core idea, but I’ve never seen anything even attempt to replicate that childhood wonder. Developer Landfall Games definitely had joyous memories of “the floor is lava,” or it wanted to make Mirror’s Edge with autonomous, suicidal trucks.

News:: Weekend deals: Mafia III 24% off pre-load, FIFA 17, and $20 Sniper Elite III collector's edition

Pre-loading went live yesterday on Mafia III on Steam and so did a huge 24% discount at GMG. That gets the standard edition price down to $45.39 and the Digital Deluxe to $60.69 -- about as cheap as one can expect the game to go for before its Friday release. GMG, being authorized, is sending keys out almost right after purchase and you get the Family Kickback pack DLC pre-order bonus.

FIFA 17 is finally out world wide now as of Thursday, and surprisingly discounts abound for PC gamers on the Origin digital copy. DLGamer is showing the best price online with a 25% drop to $44.99.

If you can't wait for Black Friday to buy a PlayStation 4 Slim, a deal popped up this weekend that should perk your interest. Plug in coupon code SHOP10 or TRIPLE15 at checkout at Jet.com and you can cut the PS4 Slim Uncharted bundle from $299.99 to only $269.99 -- its first discount to date and surprising for the two-week-old refreshed PS4 console.

In other console deals, Sniper Elite III Collector's Edition dropped to only $19.99 at GameStop. Originally a $70 purchase the Collector's Edition, now that it's $20, it's actually $10 cheaper than what GameStop is charging for a standard edition copy of Sniper Elite III. Newegg is also carrying one year worth of PS Plus for only $39.99, the first significant discount we're seeing for the membership since its price jump on September 22. Act fast because this deal looks to be ome-day only.

News:: PREPARE TO FRIENDSHIP: Dtoid's Master Gaming Contact List

[The weather here is getting colder, but friendship will keep me warm. the List will be updated in perpetuity. -Panda]

[It is my pride and joy that people make friends for life on this site, easily the best thing I have accomplished in my ten years here! I hear it time and time again, and it never gets old. Thanks for making the Dtoid Community so special -Niero]

Good morning/afternoon/evening my friends/robots/Gardevoir

It has recently been made aware to me that, just perhaps, you all enjoy video games. It might even be said that you... like to game with others? Now now, don't be that way, I don't mean to lump you into some sort of box. You're all just such lovely folks, it pains me to watch you, struggling in vain to connect with each other, striving to engage in...

News:: This Gravity Rush 2 footage looks utterly gorgeous

It would not be hyperbolic to say that Gravity Rush 2 is my most anticipated game of 2016. Despite all of its flaws, I adore the first game in the franchise, and I genuinely hope that the sequel can improve and expand upon it in a meaningful way.

Thankfully, the large amounts of gameplay previously demonstrated during Famitsu's "Gravity-Tsu" live-streams, as well as Steven Hansen's own impressions of his time with the demo have been quite promising.

With Gravity Rush 2 only being two months away from release, Famitsu has held a third "Gravity-Tsu" live-stream. The archive of this stream can be viewed on the PlayStation Japan YouTube channel. Unfortunately, the actual gameplay footage on offer is somewhat spread out, meaning that those who are only interested in seeing Gravity Rush 2 in action will have to manually skip to several sections of the video in order to view about 20 minutes of footage.

Feel free to check out the footage below. For those who only want to see the gameplay, skip to 17:20 to 21:35, 23:25 to 29:50 and 31:50 to 41:20.

News:: Femto looks appropriately over-the-top in Berserk Warriors

Not too long ago, it was confirmed by Famitsu that Femto, fifth member of the God Hand and demonic form of Griffith, would be playable in Berserk and the Band of the Hawk. At the time, it was unknown as to how he'd actually handle in-game. After all, Griffith has not really been in too many combat situations in his Femto form in the source material.

Thankfully, Koei Tecmo have recently released a gameplay trailer for Femto, putting any and all curiosities to rest. The trailer, which demonstrates how his spacial manipulation abilities would work in-game, is about as gloriously over-the-top as you'd expect. That is to say, he can fly around the battlefield and summon tornadoes, alongside his ability to utilise what looks like some incredibly devastating area-of-effect abilities.

I just hope that we'll eventually see the other members of the God Hand make it into the game in one form or another.

Berserk and the Band of the Hawk will be released on October 27 in Japan, February 21 in the U.S. and February 24 in Europe. Feel free to check out the gameplay trailer below:

News:: The Coalition is revoking some illegitimately obtained Gears of War 4 keys

Last month, Nvidia announced that anyone who purchased a new GeForce 1070 or 1080 graphics card would receive a free copy of Gears of War 4 for PC and Xbox One.

Unfortunately, it looks like a group of enterprising individuals had managed to find an exploit in this promotion that allowed them to obtain a key for Microsoft's upcoming shooter without having to drop any money of their own, yet alone the cost of an expensive new graphics card.

Essentially, Amazon would automatically send a game code for Gears of War 4 the moment an order was placed for one of Nvidia's new video cards. Customers could then cancel the order while still retaining the (at the time) valid game key, which they could redeem for themselves or sell off to other people.

It appears as if Microsoft and the development studio behind the game have taken notice, as a Director of Community for The Coalition has confirmed via NeoGAF that illegitimately obtained keys for Gears of War 4 have been revoked. They also mention that anyone who feels as if their license was invalidated unfairly should contact Nvidia with a proof of purchase in order to potentially get it reinstated.

While it does suck that those who purchased these game keys from a third-party may lose, or have already lost, their licenses for Gears of War 4, it should be noted that The Coalition is well within its rights to take this kind of action. After all, these keys were acquired through the abuse of a loophole and were essentially given out for free.

Anyone who bought a key that has since been revoked should contact the seller for a refund, or attempt to obtain one through eBay, PayPal or whatever service the transaction took place on.

News:: Grab two Legendary Pokemon starting today

Every month this year, the Pokémon company has been distributing one of their legendary monsters as part of their 20th anniversary celebration. For October, there are two creatures available via different distribution methods, Keldeo and Volcanion.

Volcanion is the final legendary to be revealed in the sixth generation, and this is the first time it's being made available outside of Japan. To get it, you'll need a code card from a retail game store, which will vary by what region you're in. In the U.S., Volcanion cards can be picked up at any GameStop, in the U.K. and Spain they're at GAME, while people in Australia and New Zealand will need to go to EB Games. The dates for this one seem to be different depending on what region you live in, so if you're in North America, it won't be available until October 10th. As such, you may want to call your local GameStop before making a special trip to get the card.

Once you have the card, load up your copy of Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire and select Mystery Gift from the main menu. Choose Receive Gift, open the communication channel, and then select Get With Code. You'll need your 3DS connected to the internet to redeem it, and each code will only work once.

Volcanion has a unique Fire/Water type combination that will give it some unusual strengths and weaknesses. The Volcanion being distributed comes in at level 70 and is equipped with an Assault Vest, an item that boosts Special Defense but prevents the wearer from using any non-damaging moves. It will arrive knowing the moves Flamethrower, Hydro Pump, Explosion, and its signature move, Steam Eruption. Volcanion has the Water Absorb ability, meaning it's healed instead of hurt when hit by a Water type attack.

The other Legendary Pokémon available this month is much easier to obtain. Keldeo was previously only available to people who picked up Pokémon Black 2 or White 2 during its first month of release. Fortunately, all you need this time is an internet connection. To download Keldeo, select Mystery Gift, Receive Gift, open the communication channel, then Get Via Internet.

Keldeo is a Fighting/Water type that looks like it was made for Bronies and Equesticles. It can be upgraded to its Resolute form when it learns the move Secret Sword. The Keldeo being distributed comes in at level 100 and is holding a PP Max. It has the Justified ability, meaning its attack rises when it's hit with a Dark type move, and it will start with the moves Aqua Jet, Leer, Double Kick, and Bubble Beam. Keldeo will be available online from now until October 24, so make sure to get it while you can.

Finally, there's a third, non-legendary Pokémon currently being distributed, though it's not currently available in the U.S. If you live in Europe or Australia, you can download a special Meowth that knows the move Happy Hour, which doubles prize money when used. To do so, follow the same procedure listed above for Volcanion, but enter HAPPY when prompted to enter a code. No one seems to know when this one is scheduled to end, so you may want to act swiftly to keep from missing out.
