News::Star Citizen Reaches $38,000,000 Stretch Goal!

Aaaaaaand... They've done it again! It's just crossed the $38M mark. This game is doing VERY well for an indie, and aims to re-vitalize the space SP/MMO-elements genre. Every time this game reaches a stretch goal, it seems thousands more backers appear from nowhere, and thousands of current backers increase their pledge! I'll bet it'll reach their next goal of $39M too. The world really is their (developers) oyster. With such an insane amount of backing, all, if not most of which goes straight to devs, means people are literally sitting at the edges of their seats waiting. Just waiting. Peace Shadow EDIT: Already 4% into $39M! This is incredible! xD

It came just a little over two months later than was expected, but the second episode of Telltales Fables adventure game is finally here. Episode two, titled Smoke And Mirrors continues the adventures of Bigby as he tracks a killer that is targeting female Fables (Fables being refugee fairy tale characters that now live in our world), and, as to be expected from any good story as we get into the middle, the stakes are now going up.

News::Hearthstone: Tips and Tricks For Mastering The Arena

In Hearthstone the most exciting mode in the game isnt the main mode, where you build a deck out of your own cards, but rather the Arena. Arena is when the player builds a deck out of random cards and then competes against other players who have done the same. Unlike the normal play mode though there are no limitations on decks allowing players to build crazy decks previously unimaginable. Its thrilling, especially when you know that one bad card placement in your deck can completely destroy you. Not only that, but if you lose three times with your deck then youre kicked out of the arena.

The Dark Eye is a pen and paper RPG system that is very popular in Germany...and probably only there. They really, really love it. So much so that RPGs based on this system crop up once every couple of years. They're probably well received in their homeland, but not necessarily in the Anglo-Saxon AAA market. For one, making a good RPG is a lot harder than making a good FPS. And then there's prejudice against mid-tier games that come from outside the UK and USA. Still, here's Blackguards!

News::The Secret World Review - Everything is True | MMOGames

The Secret World is a buy-to-play MMORPG that saw its initial release on July 3rd, 2012. Unlike most other online games on the market at the time, which tended towards either a fantasy or sci-fi theme, The Secret World was set in a version of modern-day Earth where secret societies lurk in almost every major city, all manner of creatures live among us, and just about every rumor you have ever heard is true. Since its initial release, Funcom has put out a total of 8 major content patches referred to as Issues here and given some snippets and direction of where the next two will take the game. I set out to give this title a fresh look after the latest few Issues and ended up asking myself just why the break happened in the first place. Read all about it in this The Secret World Review.

News::Maybe Magikarp isn't as worthless as we all thought

Hands down, the most oft-cited example of a useless Pokemon is Magikarp. I mean, it's definitely not one of the more badass Pokemon. Stupid fish. All it does is splash around, right? Well, until it decides to splash right over the top of a friggin' mountain.

Upon a bit of analysis from Youtuber VSauce3, Magikarp could certainly turn an unsuspecting victim into fish food. It has the ability to leap over a mountain, and with it weighing in at 22 pounds, that means immediate death for whomever it lands on. VSauce3 gets real sciencey with it, and eventually equates it to being strapped to the front of a cannon. Of course, going out by way of a cannon would be far less awkward for your loved ones to explain than getting fished to death.

News::The problem with Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes' price

I don't think I've ever complained a game was too short. Except Persona 4: Golden . I could have played that for another 400 hours. And I've always laughed at the ridiculous price per hour breakdown some Internet goers abide by. I found Thirty Flights of Loving to be more complete feeling in its 15 minute run time than many 15 hour games I've slogged through.

But the wild world of variable pricing models, downloads, and paying for games that don't even exist yet has complicated my more generalized, "price doesn't matter," and "quality over quantity" stance.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes -- a short prologue to the full Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain -- will cost anywhere from $20 to $40. That's problematic.

Alissa from Twinfinite writes, "The Big Bad Wolf may not be the worst thing waiting out in the dark. For the residents of Fabletown, he may be the only thing keeping true monsters at bay. Episode 1 of Telltales episodic adventure The Wolf Among Us introduced us to one Mr. Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of Fabletown and a man keen to leave his big bad past in the story books. That episode, entitled Faith, saw Bigby fall headlong into a murder investigation and left players with one hell of a cliffhanger. Smoke And Mirrors picks up right where the first episode left off and follows Bigby as he tries to track down the bad guy all while trying to fight the darkness within himself."

Judging from early gameplay footage of Dying Light, its clear that Techlands next zombie title will be full of action as player free run across rooftops while combating the undead in the first-person game. Speaking to Examiner in an exclusive interview, Techland Producer Tymon Smektala admitted that it was important to the developer to let players build their character however they wanted in order to compliment the freedom the game provides through its open world exploration.

News::Alien: Isolation Will Scare the Heck Out of You | Hardcore Gamer

Hardcore Gamer: After the absolute abomination that was Aliens: Colonial Marines, fans would be wise to be at least skeptical about another Alien game. Fortunately, this one seems to have a stronger foundation than the most recent effort, which fell far short of even the OUYA-released AvP: Evolution game. Like Marines, this has a first-person view, but differs in that it focuses on exploration that freaks you out. Everything is bathed in darkness beyond ambient lighting, which looks gorgeous. Youll see light beam into a room from the shutters, while cracks in them allow the world to feel lived in. Creative Assembly is out to suck you into the world, and whats been shown of the game so far makes it easy to do that. Everything is either just a bit destroyed, or mangled and its unnerving. You can see that the environments were just recently occupied, with things like desk ornaments and food left out and then the gravity of its immediate abandonment sinks in. They were people unt...

News::Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry set for standalone release

The release of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag seemed to have won back a number of fans of the series who felt burned by Assassin's Creed III. Taking the series to a pirate setting allowed for expanded exploration and naval combat, which many appreciated. In addition to this, Black Flag also saw a sizable DLC campaign in Freedom Cry , which Chris Carter thought was a lot of fun. Now, it looks like Ubisoft is taking some cues from Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and plans to make Freedom Cry available to fans as a standalone release.

The standalone version of Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry launches February 18 for PS3 and PS4, along with a PC release on February 25, according to Ubisoft. Occurring some time after the events of ACIV, players take on the role of returning character Adewale, who must face his own past while freeing captured slaves throughout Haiti. Along the way, he'll acquire a ship of his own and build a crew to exact revenge on the slave owners.

While Freedom Cry is already available for fans who have Black Flag, gamers who haven't taken the dive now have an another option. This is a pretty interesting approach to DLC that Ubisoft is doing. I think it's great that the publisher is allowing gamers to have access to special content without requiring them to purchase a $60 game first. However, I do find it disappointing that the same treatment won't be given to Xbox owners, as PlayStation has the console exclusive release for the standalone product.
