News::Titanfall Review | The Slanted

The First Person Shooter genre has been under fire from both players and critics for the last few years. Publishers have been flooding the market with generic options for players, often times with only one or two major choices standing out from the dozens of slightly improved versions of last years models. All the while fans have been complaining about the publishers choices to push out games without any major improvements to the games concept, or gameplay.

News::Escape from 1954: Alcatraz

)

San Francisco is an underused setting in games. I still need to play Driver: San Francisco, but I'm not sure how much it takes advantage of the city.

Daedalic's new adventure game 1954: San Francisco seems to, as you split playtime between Christine, scouring the streets of San Francisco, and her husband, Joe, whose doing a 40 year stint on The Rock.

Meanwhile, there's a large cash sum at stake in this seedy noir. As Joe, you'll have to pull a Clint Eastwood and escape from Alcatraz. As Christine, you can abet your husband's escape or leave him to rot in jail and go shack up with his ex-partner. Damn.

You can pick 1954: Alcatraz up today on Steam. It's even on sale.

News::One Finger Death Punch Review: Youll Love Kung Fuuuuu (Twinfinite)

Action games can be a real blast because the challenge of nailing a difficult combo or taking out a hoard of enemies without a scratch in return is exhilarating and fun. Kung Fu movies are also really great. Watching the hero beat the ever-living hell out of a hoard of enemies with barely a scratch in return is hilariously entertaining and enjoyable, from the Bruce Lee days all the way to the absurdly fun Man of Tai Chi (Yes, the one directed by Keanu Reeves). Enter One Finger Death Punch, a perfect combination of both that sets a new high standard for action games

News::Pandora: First Contact Review | ManaPool

Lachrymosity of ManaPool writes: "Pandora: First Contact takes your standard turn-based 4X and adds aliens you take seriously (albeit only in the first half of a game), a research system that guarantees you wont have exactly the same upgrades as your neighbours, and a story intriguing enough for me to write this history paper. Micromanagement of your cities and people is surprisingly entertaining, though the variety of tile improvements is a bit lacking. And while the ability to customize units is fun, combat can be frustrating, and long, late-game sieges made me consider glassing my own cities to speed up what was an inevitable defeat."

News::Guacamelee! Review (Chomp on This Gaming)

"When Metroid was released back on the NES, it introduced a different style of side scrolling platforming. There was a large focus on navigating left, right, up and down the screen and exploring to acquire new abilities to reach even more places. Later Castlevania adopted this same style of game for the 2D titles. The name Metroidvania was given to this type of game. These games were generally large with a lot to find and are known for back tracking to previously visited locations. Guacamelee! is a game that approaches this style of game, and well, it just seems to fall short when compared to Metroid. Though it is enjoyable, the game just isnt that great." - Scott Fawcett

News::Thief (2014) review | CheatMasters

Rebooting a old franchise is tough. There are longtime fans to please, as well as first-timers to convince that it was good through an updated version. Its a tightrope act of staying faithful to the source material while implementing new elements to freshen things up. This is even tougher in video games, case in point with StarCraft, Fallout, Tomb Raider, and so on. Thief has just gotten this treatment as well, and reactions have been mixed. Its safe to say that it wasnt going to be exactly like the old games, but the question then lies on what new things it brings to the franchise.
