News:: Yakuza Kiwami 2 demo out now on Japanese PlayStation Store

This year, Europe and North America finally got their hands on Yakuza Kiwami, a remake of the first Yakuza game that had been long anticipated by fans. But, as per usual, Japan is one step ahead of us. Not only did Yakuza Kiwami release in early 2016 for Japanese audiences, but Yakuza Kiwami 2 is due out in Japan on Dec. 7, 2017, and if you have a Japanese PSN account, you can nab the demo for Kiwami 2 now.

Sega released the demo on Nov. 21 via Japan's PlayStation Store. The demo is 9.89 GB and is free to download, as long as you have access to a Japanese PSN account.

Currently, Sega hasn't announced a release date for Yakyza Kiwami 2 in the West, but it's safe to assume that we won't be seeing a release in Europe or North America until 2019.

News:: What does the community think of Super Mario Odyssey?

For me personally, there are two big marquee games that defined the Nintendo Switch's explosive entrance onto the scene this year. First was a right-straight with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, followed by an uppercut later with Super Mario Odyssey. Both of these games brought about this classic sense of school yard gossip and sharing. Did you know you can do this? Have you tried that? Did you see so-and-so?

News:: Scheme, seduce, and backstab your way through the French Revolution in Ambition: A Minuet in Power

The French Revolution, though a fascinating period of history, is hardly renown for its hearty alliances and political friendships, with a chunk of the crooked, and not-so-crooked aristocracy and monarchy doing whatever it takes to keep their head above water, lest it be removed from their affluent shoulders.

I've always thought that the grim machinations of that time-period would make a great setting for a good game. This desire of mine wasn't exactly sated by the wreck-faced monstrosities of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed's Unity, which nailed certain aesthetics but missed the point entirely. However, all is not lost. I may finally get the opportunity to fulfill my somewhat niche fantasy of being a beautiful but conniving 18th century femme fatale, courtesy of Ambition: A Minuet in Power, now crowdfunding on Kickstarter.

News:: I don't care if it's overpowered, Stick of Truth's Jew is my favorite RPG class

South Park: The Stick of Truth is somehow, someway, one of the top 10 games I've played. It's crude, it's rough around the edges and quite frankly crawling through Mr. Slave's rectum made me want to turn straight. But it's also the very best of South Park with jokes that somehow kept being funny through my second playthrough (that I did right after my first one). It's like Earthbound for adults and I can't stop thinking about it.

I also can't stop thinking about the Jew class. Stick of Truth is a wildly broken game. It is so fucking easy to become an unstoppable hero far too early in the game. My first run through was with the Jew and I absolutely ate up everything it had to offer. I loved the uncouth jokes, I loved the increasingly Hasidic costumes and I love calling down the plagues of Egypt to wipe out anything that stood in my way. Seriously, that move is broken as fuck. I don't know if I'd complain about that with any other game, but here it only makes me love it more.

I just found out I can achieve the King rank in the post-game that gives you a costume to make you look like Jesus, so I imagine the next time I have a weekend free I'm going to have to run through this game one more time to unlock that. South Park: The Stick of Truth may yet be my favorite RPG, and the Jew class is a significant reason for why that is. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, the classes listed below might as well not exist while this world is blessed with something as magnificent as the Jew.

News:: Video game mashups to brighten up your day

I am fond of a video game mashup or two, so I was stoked when I heard 2 Mello (the composer for 2064: Read Only Memories) was releasing a Streets of Rage mashup album this week. When it came out on Tuesday, I downloaded it right away for listening to during workouts, and it hasn't disappointed me. He has also released a Notorious B.I.G. and Earthbound mashup album, which is consistently great.

My interest in mashups has been reawakened, so I thought I'd check out what else is out there on SoundCloud and YouTube. And boy, was I in for a treat. Spanning the thoroughly brilliant and the brilliantly daft, there's a lot out there to listen to when you want to let the twin worlds of video games and music collide. Below are a few starter picks that put a smile on my face.

News:: 64 Bits create awesome Cuphead-style Dark Souls animation

Cuphead took seemingly forever to come to fruition, but boy, it was worth the wait. A huge part of both its appeal and its lengthy development was the meticulous art style. The beautiful hand-drawn animation, based around the work of vintage cartoonists such as Max Fleischer, afforded the game its distinct look and array of memorable characters.

Redesigning other video games in Cuphead's kooky style is a fun concept, and lends itself well to fan-art and videos. One such video, by YouTube channel 64 Bits, shows what popular Gothic nightmare Dark Souls would look like if it took a merry trip through Studio MDHR.

It's an awesome bit of animation, featuring heroes, bosses and locations as seen in FromSoftware's hard-as-nails RPG. It's a very cool 'toon. The only problem I found is it just left me wanting more videos, featuring other popular franchises, redesigned in this style.

What games do you think could benefit a Cuphead-style spin-off?

[Thanks to reader Rob Morrow for the tip]
