News::Watch PC graphics evolve over two hours

Watch PC graphics evolve over two hours screenshot

Grab a drink, cook up some food, and put your phone on silent. Ok you good? Now you're ready to take on the following two-hour monstrosity of a video on the evolution of PC graphics.

The video was assembled in chronological order from 2000 to 2013, and only uses Nvidia graphics demos (sorry, no ATI/AMD!). It goes through a ton of different games, from Doom 3 to Resident Evil 5 to Sleeping Dogs .

If you're a PC nut and have a little time to spare, it's worth watching, if only for nostalgic purposes when you see tons of games you sort of remember playing, but didn't fully recall.

News::The Surprising Grace of Ninja Theory's Devil May Cry

Gamasutra- DMC is one of those distinctly Japanese melee series that has managed to keep its footing mostly intact; it is always kind of dumb, but it's always kind of fun, too. Its shameless cousin Bayonetta managed to make a major impact in 2010, like some kind of hallucinogenic herald here to trumpet a possible revival. It became important to some people that the next DMC would grab the genre baton and fulfill the prophecy. That's why it was so easy to be cynical at early news of the game when it fell into the hands of UK studio Ninja Theory; nobody wanted a "westernized" Devil May Cry; the idea of doing an origin story starring a "young Dante" sounded from a distance like any one of the artificial cliches so often applied to defibrillate a brand that's outlived its relevance.

News::Three whole Battlefield 3: End Game screenshots

Three whole Battlefield 3: End Game screenshots screenshot

With the latest Battlefield 3 expansion pack dropping next month, DICE has a few screenshots to tide us over in the meantime. End Game, as you'll probably remember, is the one that introduces the Capture the Flag and Air Superiority modes, four additional maps, and new vehicles including the dirt bike. In other words, it's the add-on that sounds great.

These screenshots, while pretty, don't really drive that point home as well as footage of End Game does. Be sure to catch the trailer, either at the link above or through our embed, if you haven't done so already. This DLC looks appears to be pure chaos, the likes of which I could easily see myself playing late into the night.

Not all games that appear at Kickstarter funding can Retroviruses and is one of those. In the fashion world, "retro" is in. I should know because I am a fashionista because I've been playing a lot of Style Savvy: Trendsetters on the 3DS, so I'm up on my sh*t. You couldn't be a more fashionable guy than me.

So when I tell you this Super Mario Bros.-themed kimono is high fashion, you know it's gotta be gold. And the little Famicom controller atop the obi is the perfect touch.

These pics come from Japanese culture site Hiyoko-G as part of a regular feature that collects photos of folks rocking various gaming T-shirts and other articles of clothing. In this 21st edition, we've got hand-knit Mario and Luigi sweater and a hoodie that looks like a garbage dump of Super Mario Bros. data. You'll also find a Japanese musician by the name of JUN-ROW rockin' a Goomba cap, diamond shades, and a sweet Rokko Chan T-shirt that I totally want.

News::Rush Bros (PC) | FTG Review

FTG Writes: Platformers are one of the most iconic genres of video game out there, with hundreds upon hundreds available. From Super Mario Bros. to Mega Man X, the genre has been tweaked and improved upon as the decades have gone by. Rush Bros tries to take those tweaks and make them into its own unique platformer, charged by your music. Most .mp3 and .ogg files (sadly, this means any iTunes-bought music is unusable) can be played in the game to make for easy or challenging levels, with the background and foreground dynamically thumping and shifting to your music. If youre so inclined, you can even race against friends (though the system for finding matches was uncooperative most of the time). Rush Bros neon world is full of color, with a visually interesting look to work well with its music-driven gameplay. It has the potential to be a revolutionary platformer. Its just a shame that it doesnt live up to that potential.

News::Bleed - Xbox LIVE Indie Game of the Week | Write Trigger

Write Trigger writes: "Bullet-time allows you to re-enact those super-slow motion scenes from your favourite action films. Following its implementation in Max Payne, it has appeared in a number of titles such as Platinums Vanquish and Rockstar San Diegos Red Dead Redemption. However, due to bullet-time appearing fairly late in gaming chronology, earlier titles never benefited from a design feature that was perfectly suited for 2D gaming. That is, until now."

News::Black Ops 2 and Skylanders star in Activision’s best ever year

Activision’s Call Of Duty: Black Ops II was the best-selling title across all platforms in the U.S. and Europe for calendar 2012, the company has said. In November last year, Black Ops II also became the first video game ever to generate a $1 billion in 15 days, according to the publisher’s latest financials.

The Skylanders franchise has now generated more than $1 billion lifetime worldwide sales, said Activision, having sold more than 100 million Skylanders toys worldwide. It was a strong calendar year for Blizzard’s titles, too, with Diablo III was the best-selling PC game at retail during 2012, with more than 12 million copies sold worldwide. World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria was the third best-selling PC game at retail with World of Warcraft’s 9.6 million subscribers making it the number one subscription-based MMORPG.

As a result Activision has beaten sales expectations for the calendar year and for the three months up to December 2012. For calendar year 2012, the publisher delivered record net revenues of $4.86 billion, up from $4.76 billion in 2011. Net revenues from digital channels were $1.54 billion and represented 32% of Activision’s total revenues. For the quarter ended December 31, 2012, the company delivered record revenues of $1.77 billion, as compared with $1.41 billion for the fourth quarter of 2011.

“We are very pleased to report that Activision Blizzard delivered the best performance in its history,” said CEO Bobby Kotick. “With better-than expected net revenues, record operating margins and record earnings, and over $1.3 billion in operating cash flow, we continue to set the industry success bar. I would like to thank our incredibly talented employees around the world for their passion, drive and creativity, which continues to fuel our success.”

Kotick promised to invest in established franchises and “several new properties” for 2013, but added that it does not expect to beat 2012′s record performance because of “a challenged global economy, the ongoing console transition and a difficult year-over-year comparison because of Blizzard’s record-shattering Diablo III success in 2012.”

News::Mario Kart returns to arcades with Grand Prix DX

Mario Kart returns to arcades with Grand Prix DX screenshot

Mario Kart returns arcades this summer after a six-year hiatus with Mario Kart Grand Prix DX, which features gliders and underwater racing found in Mario Kart 7, developer Namco Bandai revealed.

Grand Prix DX will have four modes: Grand Prix, Battle Mode, Team Co-op, where players team up against CPU drivers, and Alter Ego, a new mode where players race against the stored ghost data of others across the country through an online network. The modes will playable across "10 redesigned courses" that will feature more than 100 items.

One such item found in Team Co-op is "Cart coalecsence," according to the press release's translation, which will combine a team's two karts into a single, larger one. At this point, one player will be responsible for driving and the other for using items, similar to that found in Mario Kart: Double Dash. A new shield ability can also be used to deflect incoming attacks.

Keeping tradition from past Mario Kart arcade releases, Namco Bandai will include a playable character cameo and themed-level from one its franchises, this time Taiko Drum Master.

Mario Kart Grand Prix DX is currently only listed for release in Japan this summer, though past entries also saw release in other territories, so here's hoping.

Killer Croc will be in Injustice: Gods Among Us screenshot

Yup, that crocodile monster thing from the Batman series will be a playable character in Injustice: Gods Among Us . Ed Boon Tweeted out the image of Killer Croc grabbing Flash by the head, ready to mess up the speedy hero.

Additionally, you can see The Riddler and The Penguin off in the background. Will they be in the game too? If they are, wow. They're going to have the most boring move sets ever.

News::March of the Eagles Hands-On Preview - The Koalition

The Koalition: "We were given a chance to sit down and try the closed beta of the latest of Paradox Interactives games March of Eagles. I am personally a huge fan of Paradoxs franchises, having extensively played each of the Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron, and Victoria series, and was eager to have a go at March of the Eagles. At first glance, it closely resembles Europa Universalis 3, given its use of Paradoxs new graphics engine Clausewitz, though it does seem somewhat tweaked, improved, and optimized over its earlier incarnations."
