News::Are you a teenager? Valve's got your back with Pipeline

Valve has just revealed its new Pipeline service, which is "a website created for high school students interested in the videogame industry by a group of high school interns working at Valve." There's an accompanying video to go along with the project, which has real live high schoolers themselves talking about Pipeline and not being totally awkward. These interns will be doing interviews to go over the various aspects of getting into the industry and what it's like being a young hip kid at Valve.

More information will come "within the next month or so," but I'm glad to see such a service exist. High school is a confusing time for most everybody and to have some solid answers on an ever-growing career interest area will be nice. I'm not sure that Valve is the best company to use as a basis, given it's unique structure, but it will definitely give students something awesome to aspire to.

News::GamesRadar - Beatbuddy lets you swim to the rhythm

GamesRadar - Many a developer has chased the dream of a musically influenced game that isn't a note-highway party experience. Some, like Revolution X, missed their mark; others blend rhythm into their gameplay quite nicely (think Runner 2 or Sound Shapes). From what we've seen of Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians, an indie headed to PC, Mac, and Linux, it looks like it'll land in the success category.

News::This Monster Hunter 4 village is 'dawww-some

Siliconera has some new screenshots and information on the upcoming Monster Hunter 4 , and it looks impossibly cute. Chico Village is one of the major hubs, headed up by an elderly female villager who lives amongst the Felynes -- she, of course, is called none other than "Cat Granny." Amazing!

But the feline madness doesn't stop there, as this time around you'll be able to equip your Felyne companions with weapons, armor, and gear. You can also send off Felyne crew members on quests with varying rewards, as well as assist them in their quests with the touchscreen.

While Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was a solid release, I'm really looking forward to jumping into all the new content and gameplay of Monster Hunter 4 eventually.

News::DARK Review [PC]: Vampire Protocol - Pixel Related

PATRICK CASSIN writes: "Vampires have been experiencing a bit of a revival lately (which is slightly ironic, since theyre undead), with books, movies, games and teenage heartthrobs. Not all of the recent press vampires have been getting has helped their image though, presuming that vampires exist and it is not their goal as a species to slowly take over Seventeen magazine. Publisher Kalypso is setting aside the glitter and bringing back the gore with the recent release of Dark a stealth action, pseudo-RPG that plays in a vein similar to Obsidians mostly maligned Alpha Protocol. Having just said that, I understand Im going to have to work hard to explain why thats a cool thing."

News::Here's Richard Garriot playing Shroud of the Avatar

In this walkthrough of Portalarium's fantasy role-playing game Shroud of the Avatar , designer Richard Garriot shows off an early build representing three months of work out of an overall 18-month development schedule. While it's not very easy on the eyes and I don't expect that to drastically change with the finished game, the mechanics are what we should be here for.

Watch as Garriott gets womped by a spider, hacks away at a tree, constructs a chair, sits in said chair, talks about the chair again with a bartender, and then heads off to a dungeon. Joking aside, the conversation system of typing out dialogue as opposed to selecting from a few pre-determined options is neat, conceptually.

News::Midweek Meanderings: Treatment of Children in Gaming

Bracken Lee-Rudolph from ITF Gaming writes: There are a few contentious issues in video games currently, the amount of graphic violence believed, wrongly, to be the sole influence of violence amongst youth, the depiction of females in videogames, as female characters are often victimised or misrepresented by the games in which they are featured and so on. However, these are well documented issues, organisations like Feminist Frequency attempt to deal with the latter issue, which is a topic for conversation all on its own and most news outlets have had some input on the belief of videogames inducing violence in our youth, whether factual or sensationalised.
