The DualShock 4 Has Become A Pretty Great PC Controller

If you're using a controller to play a PC game—I know, I know, shhh, it's okay—chances are the on-screen prompts you see will match up with an Xbox controller. But you don't have to use Microsoft's controller with your PC; you've actually got a lot of options, including the PS4's DualShock 4.

News::Shadow of Mordor Photo Mode is Brutal and Brilliant

Christopher Buffa (Prima Games): WB Games Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is one of the best video games of 2014, partly because of its extreme violence. Within minutes, players will slit Uruk throats, decapitate the creatures, snap their necks and repeatedly stab them in their guts, with globs of dark blood flying all over the place. It was extremely satisfying when the game debuted a month ago, and now its even better with the new photo mode. At almost any point in the game, simply click in L3 to pause the game and access Photo Mode; you will need to toggle this feature on or off in the Options menu. From there, youre free to zoom, add filters and make other tweaks to improve your snapshots. Naturally, we prefer to press L3 just as hero Talion is in the middle of a nasty execution, and while were nowhere near as talented as other players, here are a few pictures we took in this delightfully vicious adventure.

News::The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 still needs some work

We've talked before which games use Steam Early Access best. Titles like Prison Architect and Sunless Sea are two that come to mind for me; these are games that have a perfectly playable and enjoyable core game that has been expanded upon with patches and updates. Games that have a story, however, aren't the type of thing you'd expect to be in Early Access, as you'd most likely prefer to get the whole thing up front.

Episodic games are, of course, a different kettle of fish as you're buying the game with the understanding that you'll get four or five installments at a regular interval. Even Double Fine's Broken Age was only split into two halves after a snafu with budgeting after its successful Kickstarter. KING Art Games also ran a successful crowdfunding venture and it too has split the release of The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 into separate chapters.

We're All Tired Of Gamergate

I know many people who don't like Gamergate who are tired of it. They're not alone. I was talking to a Gamergater last week who seemed tired: tired of all the Tweeting, tired of all the arguing. I watched a video of a Gamergater who seemed downright exhausted. And then another: he seemed tired, too.

News::Horror Games Are Now Better Than Horror Movies and Heres Why

CraveOnline: "Horror games are steadily increasing in quality. While the likes of Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill 2 have arguably yet to be bettered, theres an ever-growing amount of new titles that are keeping players awake at night, making video games far more consistent at delivering scares than the movies. But how is this being achieved? Lets take a look at why horror games are now better than horror movies."

GI: "This month is a boon for horror fans, with the release of Alien: Isolation and The Evil Within. News::There's a new Time Crisis and it's NOT for iOS

I would always go for House of the Dead above all other light-gun arcade games, but if I had any quarters left, I'd often put them toward Time Crisis; usually enough for a single round, which would come to an end with impressive speed. While it's been quite a while since I've last played one of these games, it's comforting to hear Namco hasn't stopped producing them.

The next installment -- we're on Time Crisis 5, now -- will appear in Japanese arcades this March. The game features a second action pedal players can use to flank enemies as well as a button on the side of the light gun to swap between weapons. It's not like we play Time Crisis for innovation.

If this comes to the West, I'd be interested. It's been too long.
