News::Gigantic Army Review [GameRevolution]

"Unlike other schmups, Gigantic Army isnt exactly fast-paced. The mech you control is slow and clunky, though the game does allow you to dash by double-tapping the arrow key or flicking your gamepads analog stick twice in the desired direction." ~ Paul Tamburro, GameRevolution

News::The Wolf Among Us Episode 2: Smoke and Mirrors Review | RGN

Jermain of RGN writes, "Based on the award-winning Fables comic books by Bill Willingham, The Wolf Among Us is a point-and-click episodic series from developer Telltale games. This dark and twisted take on fairy tale lore, stars Sheriff Bigby Wolf (formerly the Big Bad Wolf) whose job is to keep the citizens of Fabletown safe. When a fable (fairy tale character) is brutally murdered, it is up to Bigby found out who is responsible and why. The story of this prequel to the comic series will be told across 5 episodes. The first episode titled Faith, started things off with a bang, and while there are a few missteps in episode two, it continues this trend. Note*: You must own episode one in order for you to be able to play this episode, as it counts as DLC."

The dark, twisted game from Italian studio Ovosonico, Murasaki Baby, is coming to Vita in North America. You'll be tasked with guiding Baby back to her mother and away from terrifying nose monsters that are chasing her around.

Dale played Murasaki Baby at gamescom, where it was announced for European markets. The PlayStation Blog has now confirmed it for North American release, which is not surprising, given there is no text or narration to worry about localizing.

Im going to be honest, I am not an audiophile in the slightest. I blame this on not having access to proper audio equipment in my time on this planet, because I was only able to fund the basics of gaming for most of my gaming career, so GPUs, keyboards, mice etc. This does not mean I cant offer some critical appraisal; I can appreciate good sounding headsets compared to bad ones as I, (a) Have ears andyep, thats about it. I am a gamer, not a sound engineer, so I can only offer a gamers perspective. Nothing more and nothing less. And with that Confession of a Reviewer out on the table, lets get started, shall we.

News::SteelSeries Rival Gaming Mouse Review | RGN

Jon of RGN writes, "The SteelSeries Rival Gaming Mouse offers a very thorough and powerful solution to gamers who just want to grab a reliable and fast mouse at a reasonable price. The convenience of not having to recharge it, since it's wired, coupled with the solid accuracy and comfortable design make it stand out from its competition off the bat. The software included takes up little to no resources and allows for a great amount of customization. This device could be improved if the right and left grips, which feel great in the hand already, were also clickable buttons. If so, SteelSeries would have to do this without making them go off by accident mid-game though - or it would decrease the quality of the mouse from a gaming perspective. As it stands, the device performs great in games and gives very reliable input that you can count on to never let you down."

News::Xbox developing show around rapper Nas' life in 90's NY

Maybe the yet-to-be-dated Halo series isn't your speed. Nor is that soccer reality show. Maybe you'd like a TV show loosely based around Nas' life as an up and coming rapper in 1990's New York?

According to Deadline, Street Dreams is the latest program in the works at Xbox Entertainment Studios. Set in Long Island’s Queensbridge, it "takes a look at music, family and the trials and tribulations of the rap game." It will be written and directed by Jonathan Levine (The Wackness, 50/50). Nas himself is also involved in the writing, as well as the music.

Apparently Xbox also has a comedy series about four ex-pro skaters living together in LA in the works.

News::Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 demo hits Steam, PSN

The demo for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is no longer restricted to owners of Mirror of Fate HD and the Lords of Shadow Collection -- it's out today on PlayStation Network and Steam.

If you are sure you're going to get the game, I'd recommend skipping this as it covers an early tutorial section you won't want to go through again. Otherwise, do check it out. Punching people into bloody explosions while riding on top of a towering automaton that's wrecking your castle serves as a cool introductory sequence. It may just be enough to push you over the edge.

Gabriel also says the infamous line from the opening of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It's silly, but much of this game is as far as the 20-minute demo is concerned and there's nothing wrong with that. I do want to fight Satan and his minions as Dracula, thanks.

[Thanks, Emufan]

News::Rust breaks 1M sales, bans several thousand cheaters

Facepunch Studios' multiplayer survival game Rust has achieved one million sales, designer Garry Newman announced on Twitter. With the game getting to the top of the Steam charts and consistently remaining in the number-two spot behind DayZ, it was only a matter of time.

One of my major concerns with Rust in its current alpha state is cheating. It's been problematic. Facepunch has rolled out its own anti-cheat solution called CheatPunch which resulted in 4,621 people being detected and banned over this past weekend alone.

"CheatPunch isn't the answer to all of our prayers," wrote Newman. "It's a stop gap solution. It's going to get rid of a bunch of cheaters, but it's not hard to get around (by design). We fully expect cheats to be touted as 'CheatPunch proof' quite soon. That's cool. We're never going to be finished fighting."

The game also got a small update today. No more building structures around players and locking them inside, which is probably for the best even if it was humorous.

News::Oniken Review | GIZORAMA

GIZORAMA - Its safe to say that if your system is remembered for introducing or perfecting a genre during its lifespan, youve clearly made a huge impact on games. Much like how the PC is recalled for inventing the first-person genre and setting the template for much of its life, or how many RPGs nowadays intentionally harken back to the 16-bit era, the Nintendo Entertainment System can be arguably best given credit for perfecting the action platformer. Untold numbers of titles took the formula Super Mario Bros created and ran with it, adding their own tweaks here and there and (generally) being looked upon fondly. It is perhaps this era that informs the recent indie-game explosion more than most, and standing tall amongst these homages is Oniken. Oniken is the newest title from Brazilian developer Joymasher, creator of the similarly retro-tastic Castlevania tribute Odallus. Like its predecessor, Oniken is a throwback to a very specific era in video games, designed specifically...

News::Don't panic, Act III of Kentucky Route Zero is on the way

Part of the drawback with games released in an episodic fashion is that you're always clamoring for the next installment. Whether it's The Wolf Among Us or The Dream Machine , some of my favorite recent episodic titles have been hit with delays of various lengths between releases and that's been especially true with Kentucky Route Zero . In a blog post, developer Carboard Computer has revealed that it's still working on Act III but does't have a firm release date.

The post reads: "We are asked sometimes if the project is abandoned. No! Acts III, IV and V are still coming out. We've never stopped working on Kentucky Route Zero, and there's no risk of us abandoning it." Which is reassuring, at least.

There's no update on when we can expect the rest of the game to arrive but Cardboard Computer has a reason not to say. "We publicly announced release dates for Act I and II, and in both cases those dates slipped... it was pretty demoralizing to miss deadlines, and the barrage of negative attention that followed made it only more difficult to focus on work."

I can understand why you would want to avoid announcing another release date when your work process might mean another delay. Still I can understand why people aren't happy with the non-appearance of Act III; Kentucky Route Zero was a crowd-funded game and people want to know that the game they've backed is going to be fully released.
