Dark Souls II PC Isn't Working For Some People

For the most part, the PC version of Dark Souls II is a marked improvement over the PC version of the first game, Dark Souls. The sequel looks great, runs smoothly, and isn't hindered by Games for Windows Live. Unfortunately, some new PC players are having a hard time getting it to run at all.

News::Friday Night Fights: It's Glorious

Happy Friday Everyone!

Before we get to the games, I want to give my monthly thanks to everyone who hosts and participates in these community events (Team Fortress 2sdays/Friday Night Fights/Weekend Warriors). It's because of you that we keep this going.

So for the past year, I've been doing all my gaming on the Playstation TV/monitor thing that came out a few years back. My big TV was struck by lightning (it hit right outside my house) and fried all my HDMI ports. Since the TV was older, I didn't feel like spending the cash to replace the ports.

News::Sportsfriends brings four local multiplayer games to PS3 and PS4 in May

It's been a long road to releasing Sportsfriends but this collection of four fun local multiplayer games is almost there. The PS3 and PS4 versions of the game launch May 6 in North America ($14.99) and a day later in Europe and Australia (€13.99), followed by a Windows/Mac/Linux release "some weeks later." This announcement video shows what it's like to have friends. Friends who aren't afraid of going shirtless when the situation calls for it.

Die Gute Fabrik has a blog post breaking down the differences between the two PlayStation versions of Sportsfriends. Notably, Johann Sebastian Joust on PS3 allows the use of custom music files and up to seven people can play as compared to the PS4 version's four-player limit. Other titles included in Sportsfriends are BaraBariBall, Hokra, and Super Pole Riders.

A year of additional work on its isometric role-playing game Divinity: Original Sin has allowed developer Larian Studios to add, basically, more of everything. Most striking of all is the before-and-after footage shown side by side toward the end of the video.

The game is nearing a full Steam release on June 20, though it's currently available in an Early Access capacity for $39.99. A substantial update for this unfinished version of the game launched today and you can read all about what's new over here.

News::The Last Federation Review | Saving Content

Excerpt: "The best kind of missions, are where youre taking on a more active role, and placed into the thick of combat. This is where The Last Federation shines. When you are in battle with the AI, you can focus power to be prioritized to weapons, armor, and engines. And at any time can you balance the power or put all of your power into a particular station. Additionally, each faction is susceptible to specific weapon attacks. You can learn what their weakness is by hovering the mouse over them. Special abilities are eventually unlocked to use on your enemies, whether its a blast that destroys incoming shots, or a cloak to disappear. These abilities have limited use and are crucial to success in the late game."

VRFocus - The forthcoming Rift Wars has been championed by the Oculus Rift core audience for some time. Its a linear shooter that follows the design loop of Starfox while being set in a universe with visuals not too dissimilar to that of Geometry Wars. Developer James Andrew, founder of Pixel Router VR, readily admits these influences, suggesting that the transition from standard monitors to virtual reality (VR) is important for all genres.

News::Risk of Rain is worth getting for $3.39 on Steam

One of my favorite roguelikes, Risk of Rain, is running a 48-hour sale on Steam right now.

It's currently marked down to $3.39 (66 percent off), which is a price worth jumping at. There's also a four-pack available for $10.19 if you can convince others to split the cost, or you just want to give out extra copies to nice people in your life.

It's a good thing the sale is happening today and not earlier in the week. Risk of Rain is one of those games that can make the world around you fly by. Best played on weekends.
