News::Fairy Fencer F and Disgaea 4 Vita dated for the west

Earlier today, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair got a release date for North American Vitas: September 2. I still need to play the first.

Anyway, more Japanese games have western release dates. Compile Heart's RPG Fairy Fencer F is coming on September 23. The loli characters come from the Hyperdimension Neptunia artist, but the games' gods were designed by Final Fantasy's Yoshitaka Amano. Plus, Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy) did the music.

Meanwhile, Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited -- a touched up, additional content (plus old DLC) version of Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten -- is coming on August 12. Good fit the Vita.

News::Punch frogs, get paid: New Curses 'N Chaos trailer

We got a brief look at the new Tribute Games joint, Curses 'N Chaos , at PAX East. It's a pared-down, arcade-like action game about two players cooperating to clear waves of foes before the timer hits zero. Super simple, but super fun all the same. And it's hitting PC and PS Vita out of the gate when it releases in the fall, so there's no need to beg for those ports.

After Wizorb and Mercenary Kings, I'm on board for whatever Tribute puts out. Though I will be curious to see what kind of price point Curses 'N Chaos launches at -- not too high, please.

The Golden Age Of JRPGs

Last weekend at PAX East, I moderated a panel called "The Golden Age Of RPGs." This was quite fun, mostly because we spent the whole time yelling at Destructoid editor Dale North for not liking Final Fantasy IX. (I mean... come on.)

News::Skullgirls' first male character coming for free to PS3 next week

Big Band is coming to Skullgirls Encore for free next Tuesday. He's the first male character in the game. Finally, some representation. He's also a mix between Kill la Kill's Nonon Jakuzure and FLCL's cowboy hand.

His taunts up his supers and he's the only Skullgirls character that can parry incoming attacks. Sounds like a fun new spin for seasoned fans. Plus, there's a custom trumpet solo attack. So neat.

Meanwhile, April Fool's goof and clone character Fukua is actually coming to PS3 (also free) in the coming weeks. She's being tested in the PC version and, despite being a clone, supposedly plays differently from her fore bearer.

Also check out a sneak peek at the next free DLC character, Eliza, who looks rad as heck. There's a .gif set of her early animation. Hooray Skullgirls!

News::Trials Frontier's first week saw six million downloads

While I liked the just-released Trials Fusion less than its predecessor, I still enjoyed the game. It's pretty good, all things considered. I'm less optimistic about the other new series title released this month, Trials Frontier, which hit the App Store on April 10. It's Trials but with the free-to-play microtransaction / energy hooks that keep many of us away from mobile gaming.

"Many of us" meaning people who read sites like this, not the general public -- those players can't seem to get enough of the game. Ubisoft says that in its first week, Trials Frontier was downloaded more than six million times, earning it the number-one spot in 75 countries and the title of "most first-week downloads of any Ubisoft mobile title to date."

It's at this exact moment I'm worried about the future of the franchise.

News::Octodad: Dadliest Catch finally coming to PS4 next week

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is coming to PS4 on April 22. Thankfully, it won't cost an arm, an arm, an arm, an arm and a leg. Just $15. And 20% off of that in its first week for PlayStation Plus members.

And it's not a straight port. Apparently, "[t]he latter third of the game in particular has gone through some radical changes, with added challenges like deck swabbing, jig dancing, and new disguises to wear!" Plus there's Move and double Move support. If you actually own those things.

Plus local co-op where each person controls an individual limb.

Critically Sane: "Warlock II: The Exiled is a beautiful and colorful game, with an addictive quality that made gaming me lose track of time on multiple occasions during my gaming sessions. News::Trials Fusion Reviewed | AusGamers

AusGamers has reviewed Trials Fusion and writes: The tracks are boring, the tricks not worth bothering with, the attempt at storytelling laughable and far too much expectation rests in the audience to shape Fusions potential. Perhaps this will be a different story in a few months.

News::Call of Duty Ghosts: Devastation DLC Review | GameGrin

Were now living in a post-Titanfall world: a world where a certain series no longer has total dominance of the FPS genre. The Call of Duty franchise is starting to show its age, and the advent of giant robots, parkour and even faster-paced death has proven that the genre most certainly has room for change. Were yet to see an announcement for a truly next-gen Call of Duty so theres still time for a shift in direction, but for now, youll have to make do with Ghosts latest map pack: Devastation.

News::PlayStation 4 outsold Xbox One in March 2014

PS4 sales topped 7 million as of Sony's last count, while Microsoft says upwards of 5 million Xbox One consoles have been shipped to retailers since launch. The former system was the best-seller for March (that's three months in a row), according to the NPD Group. Titanfall led game sales.

Hang in there, Xbox One -- there's a ton of work ahead but you're not out of this race yet. "Of course, we're just getting started with this generation and the months ahead will bring several announcements we think you'll love," said Xbox corporate VP of marketing, strategy, and business Yusuf Mehdi. "We can't wait to share more games with you in June at E3."

As for the rest of March's software sales, it's nice to see another current-gen game, inFamous: Second Son, taking the number-two spot. South Park: The Stick of Truth came in third, then it was Call of Duty: Ghosts, followed by Dark Souls II in fifth place.

What went wrong with Transcendence? This movie was supposed to be the new science-fiction hotness.
