News:: The original Power Rangers Lost Galaxy hits North America next year

For a good while, my body has adapted to the underworld's sub-zero temperatures. During Comic-Con '17, Shout! Factory confirms this climate change as they reveal their plans to release Power Rangers Lost Galaxy's source material, Seijuu Sentai Gingaman, on DVD.

Honestly, I was surprised about this news since it felt weird for them to commence this plan before seeing how Power Rangers in Space's original counterpart, Denji Sentai Megaranger, does in North America. My guess is that their Super Sentai streams on their Website, Tubi TV, and Amazon Prime U.K. played a role in their decision to commit to this release.

Of course, Gingaman isn't set in a space station, and it takes a different route from its Americanized adaptation. Instead, the heroes utilize Earth's energy to protect the planet from space pirates and other evil groups. Based on its themes, the show's assortment of villains could keep things interesting. Then you have Norio Wakamoto (Dragon Ball Z's Cell, the Guilty Gear series' Johnny) as the program's narrator, which might be effective in pulling people in.

While the series doesn't have a release date, it launches in North America next year. If Shout! Factory's Sentai stuff continues to do well, I'm still hoping for them to pick up the installments that weren't adapted into Power Rangers. For now, I'm satisfied with living on a planet where hell continues to be frozen.

News:: Game of Thrones Season 7 Recap: 'Stormborn'

HBO has been running its mouth all week about how big its Game of Thrones season 7 premiere was. How big? Well, I'll have to show you? *Unzips notes* 16.1 million viewers watched the premiere, night of, through live outlets and recorded options. They "smashed" records, and they're not even the Incredible Hulk.

And not unsurprisingly, there's also record-breaking piracy going along with that, including airings of the show in India, online, before the official Indian airtime. We, lucky us, get it first here in the U.S. And, in a surprising reversal of posturing from just several years past, HBO is promising to get tough on those illegally distributing their property. In 2014 HBO (and Time Warner) CEO Jeff Bewkes said, "If you go around the world, I think you’re right, Game of Thrones is the most pirated show in the world. Well, you know, that’s better than an Emmy." He added that ultimately piracy of the program ultimately leads to more subscription to their service, and they know this because they've been dealing with the issue for 20 or 30 years. Apparently their 'sub' numbers are down, because even if they're not actually pursuing legal actions, they're threatening it. The old 'sure, steal our shit it'll just make us more money' line isn't holding water any more.

So, what about the re-cap Rick? I'm getting to it, my chums. What with HBO seeming to care about people seeing the show for free, even though it's arguably more popular than it's ever been and their numbers should be better than ever, they're still winding the series down towards a now inevitable conclusion. In fact, we've got 11 episodes left. That's right, treasure each and every one, and each and every minute. And with that perspective in mind, allow me to call this episode for what it was: horse shit.

[Editor's Note: This recap will obviously go into detail about last night's episode of Game of Thrones, so there are going to be a ton of spoilers. Final warning! ~ Nick, copied and pasted by Rick]

News:: Shake the heavens with Xenogears' upcoming figures

There's something strange about a company revealing plans for merchandise of a property they might not care about. In fact, it's weird when it's related to a title made by a team who doesn't work for them anymore. Honestly, this was my reaction to Square Enix's Comic-Con '17 announcement about releasing Xenogears action figures.

While it's not connected to them contracting Monolith Soft to make a sequel or remake, I can settle with owning some toys of the game's signature robots. At the moment, we only know about Junya Ishigaki (Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy's Mechanical Design) being the supervisor for the figures, along with it being under Square's Wander Arts and Bring Arts brand. That being said, I hope the final product is on par with Bandai's Super Robot Chogokin toy line.

With 2017 being Xenogears' 19th birthday, the first figure might launch during its 20th anniversary, which lands on 2018. Aside from feeling weirded out, this news made me remember the time when I fell in love with the game's ability to mix religious themes with a setting where the corrupt higher-ups manipulate every part of society.

Since their sketches hint at Weltall being the first one to come out, I can't wait to see how the final design will turn out. Depending on how it does, let's keep our fingers crossed for toys of the other machines, along with the Omnigears. While we're at it, they should make a Chu-Chu plushie or figure as well.

News:: See a bit of cosplay and con with this Delta H Con video

Last weekend I decided to drop by and check out a little bit of Delta H Con, one of the many anime/fandom conventions in the city of Houston, Texas. I was only there for around two hours and had to go home early since Houston weather got really bad that day with lightning and rain. One of the guests at the con was GAKU SPACE, the voice actor of Genji from the popular video game Overwatch who was very true to his character in the video.

A few noteworthy anime voice actors were also there, one being Tiffany Grant, the voice of Asuka Langley from the english dub of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Sadly, I couldn't get her to say to "Get in the f*cking robot, Shinji" because security told me to get off the table. Plenty of anime merch and great cosplay was present as always, being that Houston also hosts the second largest anime convention in the US.

I didn't get all the cosplay and missed out on some really good ones due to my limited time frame with the convention had definitely gotten bigger which did not favor the modestly sized hotel's layout. I'll definitely spend more time next year to see all the cool stuff again and more.

So check out a short video of the sights and sounds of Delta H Con above!

News:: Fuel your Gunpla addiction with more Gundam Build Fighters

To this day, I'm still surprised with the way how the original Gundam Build Fighters series turned out. When the project was announced in 2013, my gut feeling told me it was going to be a disaster. While I didn't mind its premise about people using model kits to fight each other, my concern was with the director since he worked on No. 6, one of Bones' weaker titles.

After I watched the anime, Build Fighters became my favorite mecha series of 2014 since it felt like a mix between Custom Robo, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, and Zoids/ZERO. At the same time, they did a good job with having the cast's love for Gunpla kits resonate with the viewers. Also, it was great to see classic Gundam characters like Ramba Ral living in a peaceful setting.

If you were able to control your obession with building robots, then your desire for plastic units may return when GundamInfo streams two Build Fighter titles next month. The first one is Gundam Build Fighters: GM's Counterattack, which focuses on Sei being in an exhibition match. From there, things start to get messy when he fights an unknown gang.

In terms of the kits, Sei will show off his Build Strike Cosmos and Star Burning Gundam. Based on the latter's name, it might be the predecessor to Build Burning Gundam from the show's sequel, Build Fighters Try. For now, we'll have to wait for the episode's release on August 25.

News:: Handstanding on everything in The Farm in Destiny 2

Bungie opened up The Farm, Destiny 2's social space taking place of The Tower, for just one hour this afternoon. It was a good time to become familiar with the new environment, hang out with friends, and play some really janky soccer.

Or if you're a Hunter at heart, it was an opportunity to jump on top of things a lot. Destiny 2's new clamber ability is helpful for this, allowing for near-missed jumps to still land, even in the social spaces. And if you were fortunate enough to be granted a human male for the beta, then you got the best new dance in the game, which features a slick one-handed spinning handstand.

Here are some places to handstand on The Farm.

News:: George Miller needs to make a video game

Last week, the cinema world lost one of its giant giants. I refer to George A. Romero as a giant giant for two reasons: 1) He basically invented an entire genre of film, and 2) the motherfucker was 6’4”. Goddamn that is tall.

If you haven’t seen it yet, please stop reading this and go watch the original Night of the Living Dead. Then watch 1978’s Dawn of the Dead. Then watch Creepshow and The Crazies. Then, for a laugh, watch Knightriders. Then watch Day of the Land. Then stop because that’s about the point he ran out of steam. His later work aside, George Romero’s pioneering films have played a great role in today’s entertainment, from The Walking Dead to Call of Duty Zombies. Hell, he even directed a trailer for Resident Evil 2. Dead Rising put a nice little label on its box art exclaiming it wasn't a Dawn of the Dead game even though it totally is. You can barely swing a cat around without hitting something featuring zombies. I only wish he had to chance to make a zombie video game before he passed.

This thought eventually snowballed into the Destructoid Discusses Question of the Week. We’ve had film directors tackle games before. Steven Spielberg had those Boom Blox games on the Wii. Guardians of the Galaxy auteur James Gunn wrote the script to Lollipop Chainsaw. Spike Lee wrote and directed Livin’ Da Dream for NBA 2K17, the story mode starring Frequency Vibrations, a name white people are no longer allowed to make fun of because we name our kids shit like Khaleesi. And I assume Night Trap was created by Tommy Wiseau.

Some great things have come out of film directors giving gaming a shot -- and also Boom Blox). So I wanted to know which directors our staff would love to see create a video game. I mean, a director other than the obvious choice of George Miller.

If that name doesn’t ring a bell, George Miller is the acclaimed director of Babe: Pig in the City, Happy Feet, The Witches of Eastwick, Lorenzo’s Oil, and some car movies. He’s a wonderfully inventive filmmaker, unafraid to set his sights on any genre imaginable. If gaming is going to continue its incessant push to becoming more like big summer blockbusters, shouldn’t we just get the greatest action film director ever to lead the way? Mad Max: Fury Road is, in my opinion, the greatest action film ever. The second greatest? Rambo, but Mad Max 2 is a close third. Even the first and the third films are goddamn entertaining.

It’s as if this guy doesn’t know how to make a bad action film, and that’s why he needs to make an action game. He's certainly a better choice than the chucklefucks listed below.

News:: Man pays $46 grand to look like Final Fantasy VIII dreamboat Squall Leonhart

Have you ever found yourself gazing longingly at Final Fantasy VIII protagonist Squall Leonhart? Thinking "geez, if only I were that dreamy." Well, 21-year-old Amirul Rizwan Musa shares those sentiments.

The Malaysian model began his career back in 2014, and since then has had several surgical procedures with the intent of emulating everybody's favorite student mercenary.

Who could blame him, just look at this hunk.

News:: Justice League actually looks pretty good in its SDCC trailer

Justice League is in the middle of a huge mess right now. DC Comics and Warner Bros. are tooling and re-tooling elements, Ben Affleck was almost phased out of the Batman role (before confirming he'd be staying on), and the film's current advertising is at odds with its product. So it's weird to say that this new bit of footage from San Diego Comic-Con looks pretty good, actually.

I'm not sure if the film actually revolves around Wonder Woman (since Wonder Woman was such a success for the DCEU) as much as this new advertising angle posits , or if the final film will feature as many light hearted moments as it does here, but this trailer at least shows off a less dour Justice League than I expected.

Regardless of how this turns out, this trailer is interesting at least and I kind of need to see this out of pure curiousity for this, admittedly, Avengers-like historical event. If Justice League ends up being a huge trash fire when it hits theaters in November, I want to be there to watch it burn.

News:: 'Pokémon Go Fest' issues refunds after tech problems ruin event

After an up and down first year of existence, the Pokémon Go Fest was supposed to be a triumphant event where players could work together in news ways and earn unique awards. The event unfortunately suffered as cell networks and the game's servers couldn't keep up with the strain, preventing many attendees who had traveled from around the world from participating. Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke was actually booed when he appeared at the event, and later in the day the company announced it would refund attendees for their ticket costs, add $100 in PokéCoins to their accounts and give them the Legendary Pokémon Lugia.

The issues, and Niantic's inability to deal with them before they derailed the event, recalled many of the problems Pokémon Go has dealt with since its launch. Incredibly popular right out of the gate, the game suffered with significant instability for months, and still occasionally has problems preventing players for logging in now. It's the first augmented reality game with participation and appeal on a massive scale, but putting its most hardcore players through a day like yesterday is just another strike against it, even as the money continues to roll in.

News:: Are you going to keep playing Pokemon Go after this weekend's disaster?

Pokémon Go’s success has been quite the odd roller coaster. It launched like a bat out of hell with people around the world wandering the streets, college campuses and anywhere else the radar told them to go. As it grew, the news around it became more entertaining. There were stories of people getting robbed while live streaming themselves playing, finding dead bodies, or wandering into highly restricted areas. All the deaths from people getting hit by cars or hitting people with their cars because of it were less funny, but despite that kind of negative press, as well as all the lawsuits, Pokémon Go continued to grow.

Sure, people aren't playing in droves anymore, but going into its one-year anniversary celebration, it looked as though the app could perhaps regain the momentum it had when it first launched. After this weekend’s Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago, I wonder if that momentum is dead.

If you didn’t follow on Twitter yesterday, the Fest was basically a disaster. Scores of people in attendance were unable to connect to the game. The CEO of Niantic was booed on stage and one of the hosts had a water bottle thrown at her. That may sound bad but you have to remember this is Chicago we’re talking about. She’s lucky it wasn’t a hail of bullets.

This was supposed to be a celebration of Pokémon Go. If anything, it is a reminder of just how poorly this game has been rolled out. For its part, Niantic is apologizing in a big way, offering full refunds to attendees, $100 in PokéCoins and the legendary Pokémon Lugia added to their account.

I stopped playing Pokémon Go early on because it launched during triple digit heat in Southern California and there was no way in fuck I was going walking in that. After seeing how badly this event was botched, I'll probably just stick with Garfield Go instead.

News:: Thor: Ragnarok's San Diego Comic-Con trailer is *$#%@!^ awesome

Thor: Ragnarok had a tough encore. Its first trailer was the stuff of movie nerd dreams, and it bowed during the Super Bowl. It's hard to make a better entrance than that. Now disregard everything I just said as its second trailer, unleashed during San Diego Comic-Con, and the movie is looking more and more visually stunning. While the first trailer just wowed us, this one builds out a story: Thor and friends (Loki, the Hulk, and more) must stop the God of Death and thus Ragnarok (aka the end of all things). It's like every shot was designed to be the money shot. So cinematic. So much color. So funky. Check out the ridiculous trailer below.

My only disappointment is I felt they revealed too much. Not only was it bad enough to show the span of the battle between the God of Death and the Asgardian army, but they seem to show much of the battle between the Hulk and Thor. That gladiator battle was a big selling point too, so I'm not sure they should have spoiled it so readily.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3.

News:: Twitch will stream the '80s arcade gaming show 'Starcade'

Starcade, the '80s TV show that had participants compete in arcade video games, will be back by the end of August. No, not as a reboot, which is in the works, but as a Twitch marathon. The video gaming platform has teamed up with Shout! Factory, the studio that acquired the rights to create the reboot, to stream all 123 episodes of the original show. Starcade ran from 1982 to 1984 on TBS and featured arcade classics like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga and Centipede.
