News::Mushroom 11 Is About Destroying Yourself To Make Progress
Mushroom 11 is a very different type of post-apocalyptic game. Instead of a human fighting zombies and looking for supplies, you play a green blob. Developer Itay Keren showed me some of the game and talked about the concept of playing a blob.

News::Live Show: Saving Gallia one more time in Valkyria Chronicles
Seriously, will we ever shut up about Valkyria Chronicles? Short answer: No. Long answer: "Oh my god why didn't anyone play this game. It's seriously brilliant and it deserves even more praise than it gets."
But that's not the only Dtoid.tv news for today. In the wee hours of this morning we launched our exclusive store partnering with Glyde! That's right, now you can get games for ludicrously cheap prices and help support the show. Just check out Dtoid.tv/Glyde

News::That Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor 'fell to bits'
Too good to be true, I worried, when first hearing about a spiritual successor to the Banjo-Kazooie series that was to be made by former Rare staffers. "Mingy Jongo." Perhaps that name still rests in your memory. I had forgotten the project was happening, and that's for the best, unfortunately.
News of the game's demise came out of an Ask Me Anything with Banjo-Kazooie composer Grant Kirkhope over the weekend. "The other guys actually had a secret meeting in a pub near Rare and we even got as far as having a character drawn up and a demo level type thing but it all fell to bits .... everyone's got other jobs etc," wrote Kirkhope.
Well, shoot. Plenty of games don't come to fruition and I can't say I'm shocked to hear that this one is among them, but it's nonetheless disappointing news. Guess I'll just continue replaying Banjo's N64 adventures to get my fix. Not a terrible fate, mind you. Love 'em.

News::Scientists Use Kinect To Make Instant X-Rays And Freak People Out
Everything's better with Kinect. Including, apparently, your insides. Okay it's not actual X-Rays, but rather a simulation using the Xbox camera to match a model in real time to your own movement. Apparently the effect's so good at least one woman "gasped and covered her breasts, trying to shield herself from view".

News::This week's PS Plus freebie is PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD
Tomorrow is PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD day for PlayStation Plus members. They're getting the game for free on PS Vita once the PlayStation Store update rolls out.
This is a tower defense game -- among the best, if you ask me, and one of my personal favorites right up there with Immortal Defense and Defender's Quest -- that has updated visuals, touch-screen controls if you'd like, the content introduced in the Encore expansion, and more.
Speaking of reasons to hop onto PlayStation Network, I hope you took full advantage of the weekend flash sale that had a bunch of games on sale for $0.99 each. I got Everyday Shooter!

News::This game idea generator is gold
The talk of our office chat room this morning has undoubtedly been Orteil's Game Idea Generator -- a tool that's exactly what it sounds like but no less delightful. You should try it out.
Some of my favorites so far:
- A simulation game where you interrogate railroads but everything you touch explodes.
- A role-playing game where you dress up insects with love.
- An FPS where you punch fashion designers in Europe.
- An online game where you listen to babies and you can erect walls at will.
- A strategy game where you ostracize witches in outer space.
As esoteric as some of the concepts are, I can genuinely see this tool serving as a starting point for production on a real game. Some slight tweaks to the ideas might be in order, though.

News::That massive Terraria 1.2 update hits the PS3, 360, and Vita
The Terraria team has just unleashed its 1.2 update for the PS3, Vita and 360 platforms, which basically tweaks every single aspect of the entire game. Everything looks better, and gameplay is overall smoother. There are a ton of bug fixes on tow on top of all this, as well as new content, enemies, friends, and tools.
The patch has been developed for nearly a year now (and PC fans have already been enjoying it), and it's effectively a new game. The patch notes are incredibly dense, so feel free to check out the full list here.

News::7 Dudes In Distress Who Needed Saving By Damsels
Traditionally, it's damsels who need saving, what with their pretty dresses, bosoms and emotions. Men, on the other hand, are theoretically strong and self-sufficient… which is why it's so satisfying whenever these tables turned. Here are seven dudes who would be dead without their infinitely more competent damsels.

News::Get your murloc runnin' with Azeroth Choppers
Looking for adventure in whatever comes your way? Of course you are. That means you'll definitely want to watch Azeroth Choppers , an online series via Blizzard where custom motorcycle designer Paul Jr. and two warring teams to create the ultimate World of Warcraft chopper. This is not a joke.
Team Horde and Team Alliance go head to head in a new episode every Thursday to determine who can create the most badass cycle the likes of Azeroth has ever seen. Viewers will get to vote on a winner when the race to the finish is over, and the winning chopper will be turned into a free in-game mount. Because nothing says "Look mom, I'm a badass" more than a chopper designed by Sam Didier and Chris Metzen and company. Why are they called choppers, again?
Voting begins when the series ends and you can check out more at the official site. You can also fire all of your guns at once and explode into space. That's what I plan to do on this fine Monday afternoon.

News::The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth might get a level editor as DLC
Asked if The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth would have a publicly available level editor, designer Edmund McMillen responded, yeah, that might eventually happen.
"The editor won't be in a state to go public so we won't be releasing it," he wrote on Tumblr. However: "If we do DLC and people want it though I'm sure it will be updated, tuned, and added in as part of whatever DLC we do."
Presumably, such an editor would allow us to build a pool of custom room layouts that the game could draw from for each procedurally-generated run. And that would be a marvelous addition, if you ask me. That and mod support. Mmm, Rebirth is going to be a treat.
