News::Indie Spotlight Preview: Hunting the Huntsman (Kaboomshark)

Kaboomshark writer Ellie G writes "A very, very long time ago, I had the chance to talk to Dene Waring about Huntsman: The Orphanage, his upcoming alt-horror game. Featuring no weapons, no violence, and no gore, it seeks to instill a different kind of fear in its players: The fear of being hunted, the fear of being watched, the fear of disappearing. A self-proclaimed hybrid of horror-survival and Creepypasta, the game focuses on storytelling and atmosphere to fill its players with dread. You can not fight the Huntsman. You can not kill him. You can only run and hope to avoid a fate worse than death."

News::Is Call Of Duty Dead?

Mark of Corrupted Cartridge writes "With a new Call Of Duty coming out almost yearly I'm beginning to wonder if the franchise is dead and if their is any reason (besides money) for Treyarch and Infinity Ward to keep releasing games in this series. The single player section of many of the games were great but I feel that now the Modern Warfare trilogy has finished there aren't many other directions that I can think of that they can take the series in. News::DualShockers ShockCast Ep. 142 Just Be Quiet

David Rodriguez writes, "Following the news from Sony and Ubisoft this past week, there was plenty to talk about on this latest episode of the ShockCast. We started off discussing two of the hardware announcements that came from Sony; the first of which was the redesigned PS Vita 2000 (3:29), while the second was the PS Vita TV peripheral (10:38). Can you even call it a bonafide peripheral? We capped things off with a discussion of the slew of new titles announced by Ubisoft (33:29) and the debacle concerning Quiet, a character to be featured in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (50:33)."

News::Six bucks for System Shock 2, Hard Reset, and more

Although the Humble Bundle 9 is a ridiculously good value, its games are high-profile enough that some of us have once again run into the issue of "I own most of these titles already. Multiple times over, in some cases." A good problem to have, I'll admit. There's another Humble sale running this week, one that compiles a handful of "retro shooters."

Pay-what-you-want pricing gets you the old-school shooters Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter, Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, Shadow Warrior Classic Redux, and Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition. Slick. But you should consider putting forth six dollars or more to also receive Hard Reset: Extended Edition and the absolute classic System Shock 2.

Even without mods, System Shock 2 holds up fairly well. And, thankfully, there's a whole mess of them to further improve the experience for new players.

News::Saints Row IV vs Bioshock Infinite: The Illusion of Choice.

VGU writes "Could Saints Row IV really have as profound a message as Bioshock Infinite's hidden behind a wall of sex jokes and hyper violence? On the surface the question seems fairly absurd. There's not much I can say about this game that wouldn't give it away. Just know that it's short, sweet, fairly imaginative, and as an adventure fan I enjoyed it.

News::Splinter Cell: Blacklist Review - Alternative Magazine Online

Overall, Splinter Cell: Blacklist offers an enjoyable experience that marks a step back in the right direction for the series, even if there are some major hurdles along the way. The single player campaign provides a solid 8-10 hours of gameplay and offers plenty of replay value, despite the storyline wavering between passable and weak. The game is at its best operating under cover of darkness, rather than out in the open under the harsh light of day. The co-op missions work really well so long as youve got a good partner (either split screen or online) and Spies (third-person) vs. Mercs (first-person) is superbly realised and has great potential to stand out from the multiplayer crowd over the coming months. In the end, it must be remembered that no single game can please everyone but you certainly have to admire Ubisoft for trying.

News::Terraria is out on Android now for five dollars

It has been about three months since the popular 2D sandbox Terraria saw release on iOS, and now we chosen and righteous Android users get a taste of exploration addiction on the go. The title is listed as a free download on the Google Play store, but downloading and installing allows access to only the demo, with a $5 in-app unlock for the full game.

Control appears to be identical to that in the iOS version, which is workable, but far from ideal. The virtual d-pad is functional, and the zoom feature for block placement is neat, but it definitely looks like the upcoming Vita version is going to be the one to own for those interested in the best portable Terraria experience.

Still, there is an Android exclusive pet in this version, so I'm tempted to play through just to find out what it is. Little green Android logo robot, perhaps?

News::Locomalito takes us back to the '80s with Verminian Trap

It doesn't have the same scope as Maldita Castilla or Hydorah -- two remarkable titles that are inexplicably free to download -- but the latest freeware release from Locomalito is worth checking out for fans of no-nonsense arcade games. Download it here.

This three-week project is all about shooting bugs endlessly for high scores on a single screen. It's best played with a buddy (or three!), so Conrad and I decided to put together a quick video to show off the co-op. I'm continually amazed by Locomalito's ability to work across different genres and distill their best titles into an original work that doesn't feel like a rehash.
