News::Help Leo win an Oscar in 'Red Carpet Rampage'

Poor Leonardo DiCaprio. Try as he might, the acting superstar just can't seem to land himself an Oscar. Sure, he's already earned boatloads of BAFTAs, Golden Globes and Emmys, but an Academy Award has remained out of reach for all of his career. But that's where you come in. The Line animation studio just released "Leo's Red Carpet Rampage," a free browser-based game that puts you in the shoes of the acclaimed actor. Race other Best Actor nominees past impertinent paparazzi, find the one black nominee in an audience, crawl to Leo's Lambo while high on quaaludes and act! Act harder than you ever thought possible -- all with three keyboard buttons. Just watch out for icebergs.

News::Where the hell is 'Kentucky Route Zero?'

There's an important question at the heart of Kentucky Route Zero. As Conway and his dog drive through dusty, humid towns collecting strange friends and glowing-yellow leg bones, a single question haunts their tire tracks: Where the hell is Kentucky Route Zero? Not in geographic terms -- Conway does eventually find the highway -- but on a grand scale, where is it actually located? On another plane? In another galaxy? When you're on Route Zero, where are you, really?

The game is supposed to comprise five acts, but it's been nearly two years since the third installment dropped. Originally, developer Cardboard Computer pledged to launch one new act every three months, with the final episode scheduled to land in October 2014. So, fans are asking the question again, this time literally: Where the hell is Kentucky Route Zero -- specifically, its fourth act?

"It's so close. Oh my god, it's so close."

News::Artists explain how 'The Witness' got its special look

As you walk through The Witness, solving puzzles and taking in the island's natural beauty, you might wonder how it all came together. Did gameplay take precedent, followed by artistic flair? Or were the two developed and balanced simultaneously? To shed a little light, artist Luis Antonio has written a series of blog posts that go into fascinating detail about the game and its development. From specific areas to teaser trailers and posters, it offers a rare look into how Antonia, alongside Eric Anderson and Orsi Spanyol, helped Jonathon Blow develop the look of the game.

News::'Elite Dangerous' offers space combat in a separate game

Elite Dangerous is a trading, fighting and exploration space game, but if you're only interested in the "fighting" part, you can now do that for a lot less. Developer Frontier is offering a standalone module called Elite Dangerous: Arena for $7.50 on Steam ( £4.99 in the UK and €6.75 elsewhere in Europe). That's a big savings over the $30 price of Elite Dangerous, and you'll still get session-based player-versus-player gaming and the same physics and handling of the full title. In addition, you'll be able to play owners of the standalone Arena module, Elite Dangerous or Elite Dangerous: Horizons.

News::Coleco's Chameleon retro game console will soon hit Kickstarter

Coleco's Chameleon console promises a true old-school gaming experience. That means its games will look and feel like the titles you might have played decades ago, and they absolutely won't release wallet-thinning DLCs. They're not computers in a console's body like modern models. Its developer, Retro Video Game Systems, Inc., plans to release new games (in cartridge form, of course) by indie developers and SNES titles ported for the system. But before that happens it still has to raise funds via Kickstarter, beginning on February, 26th 2016.

News::The Spectrum could return as a handheld games console

A little over a year ago Retro Computers pitched a new version of the classic ZX Spectrum on Indiegogo. The console and controller hybrid allowed anyone to play 1,000 games such as Knight Lore and Underwurlde on their TV. Now, the startup has returned with the Vega+, a portable successor that trades the Spectrum's classic looks for a sleeker and more modern package. It still comes with an extensive library, only this time you have the option of playing it on the go using the built-in display.

News::'Mass Effect: Andromeda' lead writer joins Bungie

Not long after the departure of writer David Gaider, another scribe from Canadian developer BioWare has left the company. This time it's the lead writer from the upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda, Chris Schlerf. The announcement comes by way of Schlerf himself via a series of tweets. Naturally, he's proud of his work on the game and says he's excited to play it upon release, in addition to saying that working with BioWare was one of the best experiences of his career. Where's he working now? In another sci-fi universe under the employ of Bungie where he's presumably writing the next bits of Destiny.
