News:: Someone added a touch of Battlefield into Halo 5
Halo 5 takes place in 2558 but some players are turning the clock back some 600 years. Thanks to the wonders of Forge mode, you can get your fix of old-timey war right alongside all that futuristic war.
Forge creator JoeAct20 made this Slayer variant where players pilot fighter planes in hopes of shooting one another down. It's called Air Superiority, and it seems to mostly be a re-skinning and repurposing of the game's Banshee vehicle. This mode supports anywhere from 2v2 to 8v8. The latter would make for quite the chaotic dogfighting.
This feels especially pertinent because Battlefield 1 is one of the biggest titles this fall. Air Superiority might be a bit more World War II than World War I, but it gets the trick done. Maybe it won't quite scratch the same itch since it's in Halo and all, but it's still a neat way to get a little Battlefield in Halo 5.

News:: EA Access lands both Mirror's Edge games on Tuesday
If you were hoping to play Mirror's Edge Catalyst but never got around to it and you happen to be subbed to EA Access, dang, everything's coming up you this month. Both the original Mirror's Edge and Catalyst are joining the Xbox One service's free-play "Vault" this Tuesday, November 9.
I've yet to dig into the full version, but players and especially diehard Mirror's Edge fans seem divided on Catalyst and its transition to an open-world design. "It was so hard to acclimate to the changes and suffocating AAA mentality after the original was near perfect, but I think once people get over that initial shock, they'll come to adore it in spite of that," Chris said in his review.
Looking ahead, EA Access is also adding Star Wars Battlefront and EA Sports UFC 2 later this year. With sufficient patience, I really do think there's good value to be had here. I could never do it, though.

News:: The Sims 4 Is Worth Playing Now, Thanks To The New City Living Expansion
When The Sims 4 launched in 2014, the world felt empty. In the City Living expansion that dropped yesterday, The Sims 4 finally feels alive. Sims are now everywhere, all the time. Since I’ll be moving to New York soon, what better way to try out City Living than seeing how a sim deals with a new city life?

News:: The Division's New Patch Has Made The Game Much Better
The Division is worth playing again thanks to its ambitious new 1.4 patch. Ubisoft’s long-stumbling third-person shooter is back to rewarding players without forcing them to grind. It’s now more hospitable to people who play solo or aren’t leveled up enough to immediately find co-op partners. It’s still paradoxically drab yet beautiful, and it needs some new areas or missions, but it’s a good, fun game again.

News:: Twitter will stream its first live awards show on December 1st
Twitter is already a hotbed of discussion during awards shows, and now it's ready to broadcast one of those shows -- if not necessarily the one you expect. The social network has reached a deal to stream The Game Awards when they kick off December 1st at 8:30PM Eastern. You can watch the whole of Geoff Keighley's hybrid of ceremony and game premieres through either Twitter's website or its official mobile apps, whether or not you're logged in. It's an easy fit when TGA caters to a tech-savvy audience that already offers running commentary on Twitter, but you no longer have to juggle apps or websites to have your say.

News:: Neon November: Ubisoft is giving away Blood Dragon later this month
Ubisoft's celebrating 30 years of existence by paying homage to the decade where it all started: The '80s. Rex Colt is fighting the good fight by bringing his uniquely crude, neon-swathed carnage to PC free of charge this month.
Ubisoft has been running a promotion since June where it gives away a new game every month. November has been designated as Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon's time to shine. There's no mention of when it'll actually be free, but it will probably be sometime around November 12; that's when previous titles have started their gratis periods in their respective months.
For those who haven't yet made good on the opportunity to nab October's free game, there's still time. Beyond Good & Evil is still available to download on Ubisoft Club. Note that these freebies run through Uplay, not directly through Steam.
In a way, it's befitting that Blood Dragon is one of the games selected to mark Ubisoft's 30 years in the industry. It's patently Ubisoft at its most Ubisoft while also subverting expectations. A lot of the framework of Far Cry 3 was used (assets, systems, ideas) and that's something the French publisher has come to be known for -- a homogenization of its products. Blood Dragon was the rare occasion where more of the same didn't necessarily feel like more of the same.

News:: Skyrim: Special Edition Is Too Janky
Skyrim: Special Edition is a buggy mess on consoles. In just a few hours playing on Xbox One, I encountered NPCs floating above chairs, twitchy mammoths, seconds-long pauses in animation, echoing dialogue and other glitches that are unforgivable for a game that came out in 2011 and, in 2016, costs $60 on console.

News:: Daytona USA returning to arcades
It's been 18 years since Daytona USA 2 first hit arcades, but Sega announced yesterday that it's bringing a new version of the classic racing franchise "screeching into the 21st century." Daytona 3 Championship USA features the original three courses found in previous titles as well as three new tracks, including an updated recreation of the Daytona International Speedway from which the series takes its name.
The original Daytona USA and its sequel should be familiar to anyone who frequented an arcade or owned a Dreamcast in the late '90s, and at the time, they were some of the best-looking racing games on the market. The catchy earworm that played in the arcade version's attract mode, on the other hand, is responsible for many senseless deaths. The new arcade cabinet's AI is based on the original game engine, so it should feel similar to the previous titles.

News:: My Nintendo's rewards have been updated
Excited for My Nintendo yet? Guys, where'd you go?
Initially, the program started off like it was going to get interesting. It wasn't as fun as Club Nintendo, and the six month expiration time for coins was a bummer, but it had hope. Miitomo wasn't a complete ghost town yet, and it had the promise of Twilight Princess Picross, which was actually pretty good (and is now available indefinitely).
But once people grabbed those initial rewards and stopped playing Miitomo, everything stagnated. There's basically nothing available, and the Gold system, based on purchases from the eShop, is pitifully uneven. So without further ado, I present the new discounts as of this week for My Nintendo below.
They're...underwhelming. I really wish Nintendo opted to give us say, the new Miiverse games for free with coins, or something. Maybe in true Nintendo fashion they'll let it stagnate, relaunch it with the Switch next year, then abandon it again.

News:: Infinite Warfare $100 Deluxe Edition was out selling base game on Steam
According to the Steam Store in the US, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's Deluxe Edition has been out selling Infinite Warfare's Standard Edition in the past few days (squarely at #4 while Standard was at #10). That's a $100 version of the game outselling the $60 version.
The Deluxe Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare includes the base game, Season Pass, and of course the infamous copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. The only two options to get Modern Warfare Remastered is to either buy the $80 Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition, or the $100 Deluxe Edition, and sales charts are showing Deluxe is on top (or was anyways till Steam Store murk things up a bit).
This means people are electing not only to get Modern Warfare Remastered, but also springing $20 more to get the Season Pass for Infinite Warfare. The Season Pass includes release day perk on November 4th such as 10 Rare Supply Drops and 1,000 bonus Salvage Credits to craft new prototype weapons. Given the Season Pass is a $50 purchase separately, people are probably opting for the $30 "savings."
If you're debating on Deluxe vs Legacy, you can pick up up a copy with a more reasonable discount of 15% off at GMG for the PC Steam copy. This makes the Deluxe $84.99 - essentially $5 more than list price of Legacy Edition.
Infinite Warfare Deluxe, Legacy, and Standard Steam Deals
- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare - Digital Deluxe Edition (Steam) — $84.99 (list $100)
- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare - Digital Legacy Edition (Steam) — $67.99 (list $80)
- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (Steam) — $50.99 (list price $60)
Note that the same 15% savings also applies to the Legacy and Standard Editions of Infinite Warfare, reducing both those prices as well. If you don't care about the Infinite Warfare Season Pass, buying Legacy for $68 is probably the better bet to also receive that copy of Modern Warfare Remastered.

News:: DOJ sues DirecTV for conspiring against LA Dodgers
The Department of Justice announced on Wednesday that it is bringing suit against DirecTV for its role in an alleged collusion scheme involving the broadcast rights to Los Angeles Dodgers games. Specifically, the DOJ asserts that DirecTV and three of its competitors -- Cox, Charter and AT&T -- shared "agreed to and did exchange non-public information about their companies' ongoing negotiations" with SportsNet LA, the only channel authorized to show Dodgers games.

News:: Review: NES Classic Edition
The NES was the first console I ever owned. Somehow I had saved holiday and birthday money for over a year to get it (the idea may have been planted by a family member) at five years old, and although I don't remember every detail of that process, I do recall walking into a Sears to actually get the thing, and subsequently taking it home and playing Duck Hunt.
Although I had played arcade games and Atari before (it's what presumably gave me the idea), nothing really resonated with me until I played Mario for the first time. At that point, I knew this was something I would enjoy for a lifetime.
That's a pretty common story among older gamers, who are the target audience for the newly minted NES Classic Edition -- a simple, yet effective delivery system for 30 retro games from both Nintendo and third parties alike.

Like it or not, Twitch is about to make it harder to escape ads... but you might not mind it as much as you think. This will increase the chances that you see ads during a stream, especially if you use ad blocking software. News:: Intrepid YouTuber finds hidden swear word in Mario Kart 8
I know a lot of you would kill to have the time to do what YouTube user Harm has done here, but it's still an interesting discovery nonetheless.
Working on a hunch, Harm decided that since the Mii chatter for the Mario Kart 8 TV menu sounded like real people talking, he'd manipulate the sound files until he found out what they were actually saying. He was right of course -- Nintendo simply recorded chatter, possibly at a cafe, then distorted it and played it backwards so it would sound like gibberish.
Well, Harm reversed that, and found a particular phrase that Nintendo clearly missed --"How the fuck does she know?" A clear oversight, but an example of something that can happen when you have a lot of unknown variables at play.

News:: You can now preload the gigantic Pokemon Sun and Moon on your 3DS
Last night, after redeeming my code for Genesect, I went through and got my Pokemon Bank and my memory card ready for Sun & Moon. Wait, memory card? Yep, even though I'm rocking a 32GB, either version of the game will take up 3.2GB, or 26,214 blocks in total, and that's not including the extra space reserved for the demo -- with the caveat that you need both installed to transfer over the demo items.
But if you're all clear already, you can go ahead and preload either version now, provided that you pre-ordered on the eShop. You'll get 12 Quick Balls for your trouble, which is pretty lame, but something, I guess. Honestly I'd rather just have the game loaded up and ready to go for release rather than run into some snag like a three hour download.
If you aren't all clear, do some planning and consider picking up a bigger memory card. Up to 32GB is "supported officially by Nintendo," but you can go higher if you want.
