News:: Binge Log: The anime worth watching from Winter 2017
Did you know that there are more anime series being made now than ever before? The year isn't even over yet, and dozens of new shows have already debuted. Take 1998, the year of the legendary Cowboy Bebop. That year produced about 60 or 70 anime series. 2016 saw nearly 180 try to make their mark in a crowded season.
That's more than a human can reasonably be expected to watch, even for an aspiring otaku. Thankfully, the age of streaming means that it's easier and cheaper than ever to pick up a show after the fact, binge-watching batches or entire seasons when the spirit strikes.
But that still leaves a lot of chaff to separate out from the wheat. That's where we come in. Read on for a mere handful of binge-worthy shows of the last season, where to watch them, and why they're worth checking out!

News:: You've got character: Kotal Kahn (Blood God)
When it comes to competitive multiplayer games, we all have our favorite characters and classes. In this series, I'm putting some of mine under the microscope to see what makes them tick, how they fit into their games, and ultimately why I like them!
If you told me a few years ago that the fighting game I'd be spending the most time with in 2017 was Mortal Kombat X, I wouldn't have believed you. If you told me I'd also be spending that time with not only one of the freshly introduced new characters, but one of the most usual among them, I would have laughed right in your face. But here I am, still playing MKX, and still playing Blood God Kotal Kahn of all characters.
Picking a character is a personal choice in any fighting game, but in MKX picking a main is even more specific and complicated due to its variation system. There are essentially three versions of each character to choose from, and while these variations share the same basic moves, they each provide their own little tweaks and wrinkles to make them unique. One variation will be more focused on rush-down, another might offer easier combos but fewer options and so forth.
For many players, this means picking a character and spending time learning each variation so you can swap between them to better adapt to specific match-ups. For others, this means a deep dive into ONE variation, a long, hard road to mastery using a single character. A blood oath sworn to a single path.
I don't know exactly how or why it happened, but Blood God Kotal Kahn became that character for me.

News:: Weekend deals: 36% off Rising Storm 2 and 25% off Prey
If you were a fan of first Rising Storm (aka Red Orchestra), Rising Storm 2: Vietnam is not far off on the horizon. The Q2 2017 release has a reasonable list price of $30 on Steam, with an aggressive pre-order deal of 25% off to $22.49.
But this wouldn't be a deals roundup without an even bigger discount: at GMG, you can scoop 36% off to $19.29 for the Digital Deluxe (a free upgrade during pre-order phase). At release, the Standard Edition will be $24.99. This also gets you instant access to the next upcoming beta, making it an easy choice for Red Orchestra/Rising Storm fans.
Bethesda's big Friday release was Prey and now that first impressions and positive port reports are in, interested gamers might just be looking for deals. Discount-wise Prey is up to 25% off, with the best deal for PC gamers at GamesPlanet. After currency conversion for the non-region locked key at GamesPlanet, you'll be looking at a price of about $45 USD - making this a solid 25% off discount. Alternatively, if you don't want to fiddle with currency conversion, DLGamer has the game for 22% off at $47.
For console gamers, this weekend we have PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold subscription cards on tap for $50 and $45, respectively. The PS Plus deal resides at Newegg, dropping the price by a full $10, whereas the Xbox Live Gold deal resides on eBay deals.
Both platform's digital stores are running a big sale this week, with PSN running a Golden Week Sale. Unsurprisingly, many titles on tap are developed by Japanese studios. Check our deal breakdown here for the PSN sale, and here for the Xbox Live "Deals with Gold Sale."

Christopher Orr,
The Atlantic
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters this weekend, the sequel to the 2014 film that introduced us to Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Grax and Rocket on the big screen. While the new installment appears to be just as entertaining, the plot suffers where the original shined. The Atlantic has a full review of the film if you want to read up before, or after, you go see it. And yes, there are spoilers. When you do decide to head to the theater though, don't forget to sneak in your Doritos.
