News::Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Spectacular | Power Up Gaming

Amber Colyer writes: "Dragon Age: Inquisition has got so much going for it. Its beautiful, it sounds great, the story is epic, and the characters are relatable and fun. Everything you do feels like it makes a difference and as if you can play however you wish. The massive amount of detail, thought and effort that went into this game feels as triumphant as the Inquisition itself after Haven."

News::Valkyria Chronicles Review (Invision Game Community)

Valkyria Chronicles is a strategy role playing game based in a fictitious, manga-drawn land reminiscent of 1930s Europe during the Second World War. Two warring powers, the Federation and Empire, clash on the battlefield of one small and previously peaceful nation on the continent, where the Empire have discovered a wealth of valuable natural resources.

Fighting game mega-site EventHubs is running a poll to see which Street Fighter characters fans want to see return the most in SFV. Considering SFV is still pretty early on in development, there is the slim, outside chance that polls like these might have a little more sway on Capcom's roster choices than usual, so I'm a bit more interested in the results than I normally would be.

By which I mean, I want to make sure that my favorite characters make the cut.

Hardcore Gamer: "Metal Gear Solid is one of the most revered franchises in gaming, containing some of the deepest and complex stories to have ever been told. Following the iconic Sold Snake, the series has maintained a strong consistency of quality and diversity, bringing us to a variety of different beautiful locations and establishing some of the best stealth action mechanics available. While we are waiting ever so patiently for the official release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Kojima Productions have yet to cease development on Ground Zeroes, bringing the short prologue to the dynamic PC platform. Considering how long it has been since weve seen a Metal Gear title on PC, one would be skeptical going in, but thankfully, things couldnt have gone any better."

News::Review: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy

The visual novel has been ubiquitous in Japan since the early ‘90s, but in the West they've never truly caught on. Whether it was the U.S.’s love for its own home-grown adventure games like Sierra’s King’s Quest, the SCUMM games by LucasArts, or the absolute pain it is to translate games from Japanese that can be over 450 English pages long, it's never been clear as to why that is. In fact, it wasn't really until the early 2000s that they finally started catching on. The Nintendo DS was the platform many English-speaking gamers experienced their first visual novel on, through none other than Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

News::Fault Milestone One Reads Like the First Act of a Good Yarn | Siliconera Review

Siliconera: "One of the tricky things about writing playtests is when I know that parts of the audience are going to know more than me about the genre, series, or creators. Now, nobody can be an expert on everything and most people understand that so its not the end of the world when I get something wrong, but nobody likes making mistakes. I feel like my coverage of visual novels so far for this site has been mistake riddled. Every genre of video game has certain tendencies, and people learn which genres they tend to prefer. What this means is that it makes no sense for a writer to knock a game for traits that are shared by every entry in the genre because those complaints arent going to be relevant to the audience the game is targeting. It doesnt make sense to complain about wanton killing in a shooter, needing to invest 60+ hours to finish an RPG, or bizarre and unintuitive controls in a fighting game."

News::Games of 2014: Alien: Isolation - You're Newt going to believe this

Eurogamer: "It's been a long time since I played a horror game where I needed someone else present in the room just to give me a little bit of reassurance. I couldn't play Silent Hill 2 on my own, couldn't play the early Resident Evils, and certainly couldn't play Slender: The Eight Pages without another unfortunate soul beside me, sharing my misery. Then, this year, two titles made me force my flatmates into staying on the sofa, lights off, for long stretches. The first was P.T, the free demo that turned out to be a taster for Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro's Silent Hills. It won't be on many Game of the Year lists, though perhaps it deserves to be. The second was Alien: Isolation, a game that defied expectations and turned out to be something really quite original. Here's my take on it, in video form."

News::2014 PUG Game of the Year Awards: Day Two

Jonathan Nielson writes: "When I sit down every December to think about the game I will hold up as the best of that year, generally there are one or two that have been occupying that space in my mind beforehand. 2014 has been no different. Thinking back to this summer, I remember hearing people in the games industry talking about many unique and fun games, but Yacht Club's masterful Shovel Night and Ubisoft's enchanting Child of Light were by far the most interesting to me. I surprised even myself at first when I realised that here, at the end of the year, I wasn't even considering a AAA title as the best I'd played in the last 12 months."
