News::Pixeltrek in Development for Windows

Carl Williams writes, "To say Star Trek is a popular, even years and decades after it stopped airing new episodes, television series would be quite an understatement. The problem with this phenom of an entertainment product is that it is stupidly hard to please the majority of the fans. That has not stopped companies from trying over the years though. Thanks to indie developers, a new take on the show, Star Trek the Next Generation, is being attempted. This is a tech demo of better things that might come, all in nice pixelated art."

News::Space Run Review (Strategy Informer)

From Strategyinformer.com: "Space Run: Fast and Safe Delivery unashamedly wears its tongue-in-cheek 80s era science fiction inspiration on its intergalactic sleeve. In referential gaming terms, it is a game which also shares two well-worn similarities to the bullish neon and decadent decade now over 25 years gone: sidescrolling gameplay; and a grossly arrogant, and at times outrightly obnoxious, protagonist. Yes, like classics such as Missile Command and Space Invaders, Space Run lays forth simplistic and easy to grasp gaming conventions, and couples them with an ever-burgeoning enemy threat matched by a lead character - Buck Mann - who displays the brash conceit akin to his 80s forerunners Sly Spy, or Strider Hyru, or Double Dragons Billy Lee."

News::Dungeon of The Endless (Steam Early Access)- SteamFirst Impressions

SteamFirst: Like many, I am hesitant to be drawn in by steam early access titles. Too often someone cries foul and a seemingly great game turns out to be bland, ugly, and unplayable. Despite these initial reactions, Dungeon of the Endless stayed on my radar for a long time.

News::And the Award for Most Unnessecary Game Goes to

SlimGamer writes: "Dawngate. Its a MOBA that is exactly the same as every other MOBA on the market. Shown at EAs E3 press conference, Dawngate is a MOBA that, by EAs own admission, doesnt do anything particularly new or interesting with the genre. Waystone Games, the team behind Dawngate, is proud of the fact that theyre made of mostly former professional League of Legends players and are focusing on making a game that appeals to the hardcore LoL players. But really, if youre making a game thats trying its damnedest to be a clone of a another game then why even bother?"

News::E3 2014: Devolver Digital's Big Booth of Awesome 2: The Boogaloo Strikes Back

The gaming lineup is incredibly diverse, ranging from an action/puzzle/RPG in Titan Souls to the randomized FPS Heavy Bullets, Hatoful Boyfriend's visual novel, Hotline Miami 2 and Broforce being pixeliciously brutal in their own distinct ways, Croteam's puzzle/FPS The Talos Principle, and the side-scrolling building assault game Not a Hero. Consistency is boring, after all, except when it comes to quality. My time was spent with four of those games (Broforce, Heavy Bullets, and Not a Hero already having been looked at, and there's just not enough hours in the day) and each one was unique and pleasantly strange in its own right.

Game Tangents | In Part 8 of our ongoing Touhou Retrospective, Ross explores two oddities in the shooter game franchise: Shoot the Bullet and Mountain of Faith. Shoot the Bullet eschews the standard shooting projectiles mechanic and replaces it with shooting pictures to defeat enemies. Mountain of Faith goes back to the tried and true shooting game mechanic, but it feels like a regression in gameplay and graphics design.

News::Outlast: Whistleblower Review | CheatMasters

Avoiderdragon: Last year, we got some notable horror titles like Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and Outlast, although it later turned out that A Machine for Pigs was more of The Chinese Rooms shenanigans than scares, and Outlast was much scarier (although obnoxiously so). The former seemed like it disappeared, while the latter is still going strong and has just received a DLC, as if it needed one to get any scarier.
