This 3D illusion animation of the old game Snake is pretty damn cool

Chris Carlson does great 3D illusion paintings. This stop motion, forced perspective, chalk painting version of the classic game Snake—present in every single dumbphone and available as a BASIC game for every computer of yore—is pretty damn cool too.

News::Destiny Awaits

The tension emanating from rabid Bungie fans and their fellow gamers simply captivated by what they have been shown to date is palpable. Bungie have played a sure and steady hand since its jaw-dropping reveal at E3 in 2013, and in this day and age, thats no small thing. Its shrewd and some might say an assured move. The first known reference to Destiny was noticed in Bungies 2009 game Halo 3: ODST in which a poster on a wall bore the legend: Destiny Awaits and showed a picture of the Earth with what we now know as The Traveller floating nearby.

News::Will H1Z1 Focus More On The Horror Aspect Of Survival Horror

IM PLAYIN takes a look at the recent gameplay footage of H1Z1 and discusses the prospects of it being a real survival horror game. "In the first gameplay trailer for H1Z1, were asked if we can survive the night. I feel, considering that its going to be a sandbox MMORPG, surviving the night isnt going to be too tough. Otherwise youre going to have some seriously pissed off gamers, if theyre dying every time the sun sets. Still, the trailer did highlight one or two interesting aspects of the game that Im looking forward to seeing more of."

News::Exogenesis Previewed - Cliqist

Nathaniel Liles writes: "Its no spoiler when I tell you that your sister dies at the very beginning of the story, and the opening sequence of the demo is just that. You find your sister, held up off the ground by a series of spears thatve run her through as part of some elaborate trap, and try as you might to save her, she dies. The one piece of artwork in this sequence is very well done and detailed, with the character being minimally animated as the scene plays out. It was a nice effect, and it really sold the moment."

News::Here is VVVVVV being played on the iPad

Want to see VVVVVV creator Terry Cavanagh play his own creation on an iPad? I hope so!

According to Cavanagh himself, the mobile version (which will arrive on iOS and Android) is scheduled to be submitted "any day now," and the Vita port was also namedropped in this timeline.

He notes that touch controls will "never" be as good as tactile ones, but in the same breath, he's still very much satisfied with how it plays in general. Yeah, I'd totally play this all over again on vacation with a tablet.

News::Child of Light Review | CheatCC

CCC Says: "Many games have had fairy tale themes, but none have created the feel of being in a fairy tale quite so well as Child of Light. This little digital download RPG by Ubisoft transports the player to a world that feels like a picture book, in which everyone speaks in verse and fresh wonders are always around the corner. It is a good game but a fantastic experience, one that comes highly recommended to any gamer whose heart has not yet transformed into a black pit of cynicism."

News::Trials Fusion review | CheatMasters

Avoiderdragon: Among all the games that let players shoot enemies and all the others that take pride in not having shooting, there are those that dont even bother with the argument and can still be regarded as cool by most parties. They may look a bit like sports games, but theyre not exactly for the jockiest of jocks, and theyre not that niche either. Arcade-style titles like Trials Fusion make a case for games that anyone can find interesting and engaging, despite its apparent lack of allegiance other than to its own gameplay.

News::Bungie making sure you can import characters from last- to current-gen in Destiny

Destiny is going to be a huge game where you'll be able to sink hundreds of hours into the experience. So it's a good thing Bungie is looking into making sure players can import their characters from last-gen consoles to the current generation of platforms.

"We're really interested in making sure that last-gen character can move to next-gen," investment lead Tyson Green told us. "There's going to be a lot of people who buy Destiny on say a PS3 or Xbox 360, and then they get a PS4 for Christmas and it's like, 'Well, don't tell me I've just wasted my last 100 hours there.' We don't want to lock people in."

All versions of the game will be the same in terms of content on offer (aside from the early exclusives on the Sony platforms). The main differences will really be on the visual side, obviously.

Bungie had nothing to announce in regards to importing characters between the rival hardware, like importing your 360 character over to the PS4, for example. Green stated that's been traditionally a restricted thing from the platform holders more so than anything else. They had nothing to say about bringing your character to future Destiny games in this regard either, what with the whole 10-year development deal and all.

News::Iwata: Nintendo more than videogames, company can do 'whatever it wants'

A couple months ago, Nintendo announced it would still be making hardware, but would also start a concurrent, health and wellness business -- their Quality of Life platform. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, in an interview with Diamond.jp, went on to explain how Nintendo was expanding into new business areas.

"So even though we won't chance the fact that our focus is on video games," Iwata explained, "I felt the need to take that occasion to state that Nintendo is a company that can do whatever it wants." Well, it sure feels that way, to the alternating delight and chagrin of fans.

Iwata explained that this lateral move is one inspired by his late predecessor Hiroshi Yamauchi. "Yamauchi always said 'Nintendo is an entertainment company and should never be anything else,' but he didn't necessarily think 'entertainment equals video games,'" he explained.

News::Wargame: Red Dragon Review | Entertainment Buddha

Entertainment Buddha's TenBensons writes, "Red Dragon tries hard to make you feel as though you are in complete control of a massive army. From moving your units around on the campaign map to selecting your troops on the battlefield, it does a good job at letting you know the scale and scope it can offer. It certainly is impressive but its let down by poor design and implementation that end up making you feel like you are fighting against the games systems and cheap A.I., rather than the enemy in front of you on the screen."

VRFocus - An unexpected and yet warmly received experiential first-person title from THQ, Metro 2033 was one of the last truly impressive videogame titles from a AAA publisher that wasnt afraid to take risks. Thankfully the sequel was picked-up by Deep Silver and yet more adventures are expected to be based on Dmitry Glukhovskys novel series in due course, but for now we have just two titles to enjoy. Thankfully, with a little bit of injection driver magic, both of these titles can be enjoyed as virtual reality (VR) experiences on the Oculus Rift headset.

For fantasy buffs of a certain age, there's a series of books dearer to our hearts than Lord of the Rings or even—dare I say it—Harry Potter. I'm talking about Redwall , the kid-friendly epic that reads like Games of Thrones with cute furry little animals instead of gratuitous raunchy sex. Unlike those other series, however, Redwall has remained impervious to any sort quality adaptation. This has left lovers of the series (like yours truly) feeling sadly jilted by the as-yet-unfulfilled promises of a true video game adaptation.
