News::Dying Light Dev Doesn't Like Comparisons with Dead Island and Mirror's Edge: "It's Lazy" - AusGamers

AusGamers spoke one on one with Techland producer, Tymon Smektala, who ran them through a lot of what their zombie survival title, Dying Light, is all about. While the game itself can be said to channel elements of DICE's Mirror's Edge and Techland's own Dead Island series, Smektala isn't a fan of the comparisons. "I think its a lazy thing to say," the producer asserts. "If you look at the game, it has zombies in it and its melee-based, so it is Dead Island, then you look at it again and see that the motion has that free-running aspect to it, so it is Mirrors Edge. "Of course, that description is ok, and covers the basics of Dying Light, but I dont personally really like that description because its just a very small part of the picture that were trying to paint here... Mirrors Edge really was a game that opened a lot of eyes, but even though it looked like it was set in an open-world, it was a corridor game with only a few objects that you could interact with. News::Megabyte Punch Review | Z-Giochi.com

Megabyte Punch is a fighting/beat em up game in which you build your own fighter. As you travel through different environments, you battle other creatures to get their parts. Parts have their own powers and bonuses, like gun arms for a shoot ability or powerful hips for a devastating pelvic thrust attack. Then, using the abilities of your customized fighter, you can compete in the tournament or battle against other players in a destructible arena...

News::BioShock Infinite: Burial At Sea Episode One Review | gamrReview

gamrReview's Joseph Trotter: "BioShock Infinite on its release earlier this year received the sort of critical praise that would make a pop-star buy a private jet in an orgy of self-congratulation. Flawed but hugely ambitious, Irrational created a sweeping, involving narrative and world that left many gagging for more. Perhaps it was felt Columbia had been exhausted, or that world had been (ahem) closed. Instead of re-visiting the sweeping cloud city, Burial At Sea returns the series to the underwater metropolis of Rapture in a DLC which may alienate as many fans as it was meant to please."

News::A COG Exclusive: PC Gaming Suck it Consoles, PCs Own Next Gen and You Know It!

PC snobs love to tell you that what they were doing last year is so much more awesome that what you are doing now. All kidding aside, Paul over at COG goes deep into PC gaming to tell you why you should consider a PC. "A hunched figure is perched atop a poorly padded office chair, inch thick glasses upon his nose. The glow of a hulking CRT monitor bathes the surroundings random tangles of cables and floppy disks in a comforting white light. A single flashing _ prompt beckons to the code/dungeon master. This is the image many conjure when they think of PC gaming. No more. The scary, complicated world of the pre-Steam PC has been replaced with simple, user friendly interfaces like Big Picture. Developers have taken notice too: almost all third party games are now ported to PC and have gamepad support baked in. With next gen consoles now arriving, its time to decide where to spend your hard earned gaming dollars."

News::This 'Gamer Song' is just as good as you think

German YouTuber ForbiddenNickname clearly loves videogames. So much so that he has penned what I'm sure he feels is the greatest gamer anthem in the history of ever. Your mileage may vary.

In what is some sort of weird hybrid between Rammstien and Kidz Bop, FN opines on all the rhyming ways he is a gamer -- such as "I'm a rocker/I'm a S.T.A.L.K.E.R.":, and "I'm a wizard/I love Blizzard" -- all to a pseudo-techno crunch. I especially love the way his Nerf gun shoots fire in time to the beat. The visuals are decidedly low-tech, but there is a random guy in a pale mask and rain slicker, so that makes it more German, I guess.

In all honesty, I see what he's trying to do here: write an actual anthem to the culture he loves, but something about it just doesn't sit right. Honestly, there's no way to do this and not come off corny as all get out, even with the language barrier. "I'm a nerd/I'm a bird," indeed.

Also...does flamer mean something else overseas? The chorus of "I'm a gamer/I'm not a lamer/I am a flamer" sounds odd to me, especially finishing it as he does by stretching out the syllables in the last line to "I am a Gay-mer" (yes, it's spelled that way in the lyrics). I mean, I don't speak German, so if he has already come out on one of his other videos, good on him. Just seems odd randomly stuck into the chorus of a song about generalized gamer tropes.

Regardless, I think he might have a sense of humor about it, if the Batman line is any indicator...though he has mercifully turned off comments.

Oh Germany...you so wacky!

News::Review: Stick It to the Man!

If you know me, you know what a big comedy fan I am. Comedy is kind of my whole life, my passion, my raison d'etre, if you will. Videogames are obviously one of my other passions. So, when the two meet, I tend to be very hopeful, yet cautiously optimistic. Comedy in video games tends to be very hit or miss (as does comedy about games, but I self-aware-ingly digress) but when it works well, it's a rare thing of beauty.

Stick It to the Man! is a thing of beauty.

COG takes a look at Cherry Pop Games addictive pool game for your PC. "Playing pool is a lot like doing physics problems calculating angles, velocities and forces. Thus, physics are a key component to any Pool/Billiards game, and many other games seem to fall short in this area. Balls dont roll as youd expect and angles seem inaccurate, leading to frustration. Pool Nation, previously released on Xbox Live and PSN, touched down on Steam last month and largely solves the issues of other table game games.

News::My fondest videogame memories involve breaking them

[Dtoid community blogger JoyfulSanity has rediscovered the joy of gaming... through breaking his games. Want to see your own blog appear on our front page? Go write something! --Mr Andy Dixon]

I've gotten hundreds of hours' worth of entertainment out of Borderlands 2, yet I've never laughed harder than when my motley crew of friends discovered an exploit that turned a quest NPC into a Garry's Mod style rag doll. And when I say "never laughed harder," I'm talking about those laughing fits that have you keeled over while you desperately gasp for air, with tears filling your eyes as your lungs start to hurt with every giggle that escapes your mouth.

Videogames have made me laugh and cry, but rarely do they send me into complete euphoria unless there's a glitch and a few friends involved. I know bugs are the bane of a developer's existence, and occasionally they can ruin everything for gamers as well. But for those lapses of judgment that lead to unintentionally amazing gameplay experiences, I can only extend to the creators my sincerest thanks.
