News::Video Gaming Then and Now in images. Weve come really far

Vyralize: With the exponential growth in computing power, video games are no longer in 2D, in 16-bit or even black and white. Now we have graphic intensive games that consider thousands of variables to bring an experience that is closer and closer to reality. One can argue though that even with such a leap over the last 10-25 years, sometimes the simpler and older games still outclass todays equivalents in terms of overall fun.

News::Review: Rambo: The Video Game (DarkZero)

Dom from DarkZero writes - "The announcement of Rambo: The Video Game came out of the blue when it was revealed back in late 2011. It seemed a bit of a strange thing to do, since the last Rambo film was in 2008 and there was no information that a new Rambo film would be materialising on the big screen, so why? Well, Reef Entertainment, the publishers who acquired the rights to release a video game based on the licence, were hoping to get the game out around the period of Stallones The Expendables 2 (released August 2012), but that didn't happen. With the game finally coming out over a year later, one does wonder if there was development problems that forced the game as it is an on-rails shooter without a light gun that isn't good and doesn't do the Rambo licence justice, but, in some bizarre way, the game has a sort of its so dumb, its fun personality about it."

News::How will Geralt hunt monsters in 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'?

Prowling through the woods, stalking your prey, ready to strike the killing blow. Ideally, hunting in video games plays out similar to that. Instead we're often treated to a less than glorious sequence that leads to meager rewards. However, CD Projekt Red knows that hunting needs to be different in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it needs to be better. In Examiner.com's exclusive interview with Andrzej Kwiatkowski, Gameplay Designer at the studio behind the franchise, he comments on why this is the case and what we can expect to see in the series' latest installment.

GameZone: "Making the jump to online could allow shooters to create what the genre has struggled with since the days of Doom and Hexen: longevity. Brentalfloss stretches his musical theater muscles in his newest video, Metroid: Fight For Love. In the video, Samus belts out a here-to unknown backstory of...a boyfriend?

While some may not like the direction of the song's plot, you can't deny Brent's ear for music is fantastic, as is the computer animation by Oscar Diaz. The rock opera style certainly fits the game, in my opinion at least, and I wouldn't mind seeing more songs from this epic (though waiting another three years might be a bit much).

All the great music in the world can't make this game good, however. And with a $9.99 pricetag it needs all the help it can get. This review was held back for two weeks in the hopes that the multiplayer bugs would be recognized and fixed. The broken online bro-op has been in the Steam support forums since the day of release and is still unattended to by the developers at Abstraction Games. We cannot recommend DDN to any of our Bros or Lady-Bros. Avoid this game if you want to play online with friends. If you are willing to shell out some cash to play with a few friends at a house-party it's worth a shot, but only for everyone to laugh as each bro tries and fails in brotacular fashion.

News::Is Silent Hill Truly Beyond Redemption?

Rhys from Awesome Games writes: 'I recently picked up Siren Blood Curse on the cheap. If you dont know, its kind of an overlooked, episodic PS3 horror game that is also a spiritual successor/update to the pretty poor PS2 game, simply titled Siren. Ive yet to play it, as its something myself and fellow contributor Mike might be saving for the Awesome Games YouTube channel, but the general gist of it goes like this: an American film crew are sent to a rural part of Japan, to the village of Hanuda, where they soon realise its residents (known as the Shibito) have been transformed into hideous zombie-types. Now trapped in Hanuda, the film crew must survive the onslaught of the Shibito whilst figuring out just what on earth is going on. Think El Pueblo from Resident Evil 4, albeit with a change of dialect and locale.'

The PC version of Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is no longer tied to Games for Windows Live as of an update released today. According to Namco, existing saves and achievements can be transferred between now and April 1, which is when Steamworks support becomes the default.

One more down, a bunch left to go. Owners will need to take a moment to prepare their game for the switch and while the process is slightly different depending on where you bought Assault Horizon, keeping your data should be straightforward based on these instructions.

Games for Windows Live wasn't doing Assault Horizon any favors, but even with it gone, this isn't a game I was likely going to play. It's nice to see Namco didn't abandon players, though.

News::Strider Review: Russian Attack | FRONTBURNR

FRONTBURNR: I first stumbled across Strider while taking a break from playing the arcade version of Ninja Gaiden in an arcade in Johnson City, Tennessee when I was about eight or nine years old. My aunt used to take me to the arcade and then to the movies sometimes on the weekends, so it was there that I got hooked on a whole lot of franchises I currently love now. Strider was no exception to the rule. Slashing, dashing, and jumping frantically, I remember Strider oozing with style but being one of the hardest arcade platformers Id ever played as a kid. I remember getting the home version on NES and being extremely disappointed that it wasnt quite as flashy as the arcade, but I was like 10 and had no idea about cartridge memory or hardware limitations. Fast forward years later and I revisited Strider on a CPS emulator running on my custom firmware running PSP and I was just as hooked as I was when I first laid eyes on the flashy cyber ninja.

News::The Witcher 3 Won't Have Any Bosses, Will Feature Nudity - AusGamers Interview

AusGamers recently interviewed CD Projekt RED's Michal Platkow-Gilewski to grill him about what the team has learnt during their Witcher tenure and what going open-world means for the series and the studio. From the interview: "Michal: There will be nudity, yes. But how we approach that: we create what we think is real, as far as fantasy games can be real. So if there is a possibility in the story to have romance, it makes no sense to skip it because there may be nudity in that, so were just not afraid of that. But on the other hand, we know that we can just overdose with this, because its not a game about sex, its just like real-life. AusGamers: Contextual. Michal: Yeah. So if it makes sense; if its complimentary to the story, of course we will not be afraid to use that."
