News::These are the nominees for Spike's VGX awards

I wasn't so sure about the Spike VGAs being rebranded as VGX, but then I came to my senses and realized such things really don't matter. Some of you will argue that the show's awards don't matter, either. At any rate, this stuff is not going anywhere.

The list of nominees is now accessible and for Game of the Year, it's between BioShock Infinite, Grand Theft Auto V, Super Mario 3D World, The Last of Us, and Tomb Raider. My guess is that Nintendo or Naughty Dog will come out on top. Then again, Rockstar could just as easily take it.

Viewers can also vote on their most anticipated game, with the options being Destiny, Titanfall, South Park: The Stick of Truth, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Watch Dogs. That's a tough call.

News::Get Gone Home and four music albums for $25

Gone Home , one of the most lauded games of 2013, has re-released with a bundle package that includes albums from indie artists whose music was featured in the main game. For $5 more than the standalone cost of Gone Home you'll be getting download codes for Gone Home’s original soundtrack, Calculated by Heavens to Betsy, The Youngins are Hardcore by The Youngins, Pottymouth by Bratmobile, as well as the full game.

I'm not even going to pretend like I know who any of these bands are, or what their sound is like, but for five bucks more, it really can't hurt to try some new tunes. I'm mean, it's five bucks. Don't try to act like you haven't done dumber things with more money

Critically Sane: "The game is a slight improvement over the first title, retaining the fun factor for another run and its budget price certainly helps to stomach its issues. News::Limited holiday edition Ouya comes in white

Ouya is trying its damnedest to appeal to those looking to put a little gaming under their tree this holiday. Today, a special, exclusive holiday edition of the console has been announced which comes in bright, white case and features 16GB of storage capacity, twice that of the standard version. The limited run is only available in North America and can be ordered now direct from Ouya for $129.99.

For a long time, I considered the possibility of picking up an Ouya because of the low price, but it simply doesn't excite me when effectively everything I'd want to play seems to be coming to PC eventually. This white version is even more of a dealbreaker, in part because it's more expensive but also due to the color itself. I would be so much more depressed by an unused Ouya if it were easier to tell at a glance how much dust it was collecting.

News::You ought to download Binary Domain on PS Plus this week

Yes, we've covered this month's PlayStation Plus games for North America already. But I can't pass on having just one more opportunity to represent Binary Domain, which joins the PS Vita version of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath in the Instant Game Collection tomorrow.

Not to hype up this goofy third-person shooter as the best thing ever or anything, but, yeah -- you need to download this if you're a Plus member. It's got robots who believe they are humans, which is pretty cool, and the actual enemies you're fighting are some of the most satisfying to take down in -- dare I say it? -- all of gaming. Worth your time, definitely.

As for discounts, there's only one planned for this week: Worms 2: Armageddon will be $4.50 for PS Plus subscribers, down from its regular price of $14.99.

News::BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode 1 (DLC) | CheatMasters

By avoiderdragon: When BioShock Infinite was first released, it was touted to be a strong candidate for 2013s Game of the Year. It featured a world that both reflected and parodied America, an NPC companion who actually helped instead of hindered, a combat system that consolidated those of the first two games, the insane plot twists, and so on. For everything that detractors would put up against it, including that whole moaning about ludonarrative dissonance, perhaps it was merely because it was a concept so complex that it wouldnt be executed perfectly without taking more time than it had. What it does have now though is a DLC to deepen the experience just a bit more.

News::Review: Legends of Aethereus

I really love role-playing games, and I will usually put up with some flaws if the overall experience is interesting. A bad game can have a couple of good mechanics, and I will probably play it longer than I should. When I started up Legends of Aethereus I thought it would be a mediocre role-playing game with a weird steampunk fantasy setting. After playing it for a few hours I realized that it was actually a bad game cleverly disguised as a mediocre game.

Sure, it has some cute tricks up its sleeve, but after the first mission I felt like I had seen everything the game had to offer. Fifteen hours later I realized that I was right -- the first mission does have everything this game has to offer

News::Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition listed for next gen

On Amazon's Italian site, there is a PlayStation 4 listing for something called Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition that's said to be releasing on January 24 for €59.99. According to the description, this re-release includes all of the game's DLC, most of which is geared toward multiplayer. And, presumably, we'll be able to see Lara's flowing hair in all its glory.

The site doesn't explicitly mention an Xbox One version, though there has been talk of exactly that after GameStop's German site previously listed "Tomb Raider" for the platform. I quite liked the current version on PC and, come to think of it, it was the first game in the series that I played to completion. Would you be down for a double dip, or was once enough?

News::Xbox One achievement interface shown in photos

Over the weekend, Microsoft Studios' Mike Ybarra tweeted out a pair of photos demonstrating how achievements will be represented on the Xbox One. Instead of a simple list, there is a less helpful grouping of huge images, allowing a rather limited number of achievements to be displayed on screen at one time. The second image shows a full-screen view of a single achievement, presented as a massive wallpaper-style image with the award conditions overlayed.

Pretty? I suppose. Isn't this really impractical for the people who seem to most appreciate the act of earning achievements? I would think it much more useful to have a list option if I were going to attempt to maximize my Gamerscore.

gamrReview's Jake Weston: "Taken on its own terms, its hard to deny that Batman: Arkham Origins is the best yet in the series. Yet, the been there done that aspects, arising from over-familiarity with the concept and as the re-using of many assets, as well as being yet another victim of tacked-on multiplayer, makes this seem like a less worthy entry by comparison. That said, WB Montreal has shown a darker side to this knight than weve seen in Rocksteadys iterations; one I'd like to see more of in the future. From the review, "To discuss The Stanley Parables narrative at a more in-depth level would be a disservice not only to any potential players, but the entire game itself, so pardon me if the following discourse seems a little vague. At its core, The Stanley Parables story is pretty archetypal; in fact, it follows Joseph Campbells monomyth (The Heros Journey) more or less to a T. The story begins with a man named Stanley who works at an office building pushing buttons day in and day out.
