Globe and Mail: "Video games just arent great fodder water cooler conversation the way that television shows or movies are. Probably because most games just dont generate much worth debating: There are, after all, only so many conversations that anyone can have about which gun you used to shoot which guy. News::GameInformer- Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel Review

GI:When we featured Army of Two: The Devils Cartel on the cover of our magazine last year, it was pitched as a new direction for the series. Visceral Games would be handling the creation of the game with a new Montreal-based studio. New protagonists would take center stage, and theyd be more serious than the air-guitar-playing, fist-bumping Salem and Rios. To go along with the more mature tone for the characters, the story would tackle the deadly serious Mexican drug cartel situation in a respectful manner. Playing through The Devils Cartel, I often wondered if I was playing the same game that we had featured.

News::Fully playable mode found hidden on GoW: Judgment

Some clever little birds went snooping around in Gears of War: Judgment 's code, and ended up finding a fully playable, locked mode called Warzone.

Naturally the assumption is that the mode is another case of on-disc DLC, but Epic denied this, saying it was simply a remnant of code that should not be there at all. Microsoft has since confirmed this as well, adding that the mode is not intended to be released in the future as paid or free downloadable content.

It's not the most common sight to see these days. Stories such as this are usually relegated to tales of game development in years passed, when tech limitations forced you to bury code rather than remove it.

News::Review: The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct | TechZWN

Theres something extremely tragic when it comes to looking at licenced games. Just about all of them are bad, theres little to deny that, but theyre usually that way because the developers have been given a minute budget and ordered to squirt it out in six months. Sometimes the end result will be relatively good, Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters for example, and manage to escape the curse. The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct? It almost manages to be one of those good titles. There are so many sparks of brilliance which could have so easily made the game brilliant but were never developed far enough.

NetherRealm Studios has shared its plan to put out a demo for Injustice: Gods Among Us on April 2 on North American PlayStation Network and a day later on European PSN and Xbox Live.

Naturally, the first thing that we'd want to know is who's playable and we've got that list, though it's unfortunately far from extensive: Batman, Wonder Woman, and Lex Luthor will be featured. As for the map, it's the Gotham City arena.

These days, it's rare from me to bother grabbing a demo unless it's of a genre that I'm not particularly into but think might be up my alley regardless. In the case of Injustice, that sounds about right. Definitely curious to give this a try.

News::Creative Assembly announces free-to-play Total War: Arena

Announced at a Game Developers Conference talk by lead designer James Russel, Creative Assembly will be trying its hand at free-to-play gaming with Total War: Arena . Going in a slightly different direction, this new title is said to be entirely multiplayer-based and a mix of elements from real-time strategy and MOBA gameplay.

The press release mentions that players will "pitch history's greatest commanders and their armies against each other in massive team-based battles," suggesting that Arena won't be tied down to one specific historical period. At the aforementioned link you'll find sign-ups for an upcoming closed beta. I'm hopeful Creative Assembly can tackle F2P in a relatively consumer-friendly way, but failing that, we've still got Total War: Rome II to anticipate.
