News::Wot I Think: Alien Isolation | Rock, Paper, Shotgun

RPS: "Isolation is the best Alien game Ive ever played, Im in no doubt about that. Even in its awkward moments it is doing something interesting with the license, exploring the edges of what is possible in its world, quietly and discreetly."

News::Alien: Isolation review | Eurogamer

A shorter, sharper campaign would condense the high points more potently, and some better characterisation would make the plot twists hit harder. But if you're looking for a game that really sinks its teeth into what makes this iconic movie monster endure, look no further.

News::Alien Isolation Review - STN

STN: For all of the years running around shooting hundreds of Xenomorphs one vital element was dropped, the tension; mainly thanks to the monster being so over-saturated, the once frightening form of the Xenomorph is now as recognisable as Mickey Mouse, so credit is due to The Creative Assembly for making this monster scary again and more importantly, a fantastic Alien game we have all been waiting for.

This is interesting. CCP are making changes to long-distance travel in EVE Online, with the aim of significantly increasing minimum travel times between two arbitrary distant points. News::Rise of Triad Could Bring Back the FPS Golden Age Thanks to Steam Workshop

Remember the days when first person shooters were just about having fun? There was a time when weapon drops were plentiful, your character wore an entire arsenal of guns on his back, and you roamed around levels blasting baddies in the face until they were driven before you and the lamentation of their women filled your ears. Those days were gonelost to the modern FPS where you follow around a pre-programmed top-tiered special ops dude who got to have all the fun. Yet, here is news from afar, a ripple in the void of the waning genre.

News::Styx Master of Shadows Uses Stereotypes to its Advantage

Styx Master of Shadows seems to be getting written off by many gamers as a cross between Thief and Assassin's Creed. It has the medieval style stealthy gameplay, the parkour, and the same general feel. But the developers are raising a solid point: being similar to Assassin's Creed isn't a bad thing.

News::Hands-on Preview of Tinertia the Game with No Jump Button | Entertainment Buddha

One of the key mechanics of a solid platformer is how tight and responsive jump maneuvers are. Without a solid jump button and resulting physics, platformers can feel broken and frustrating to the point of rage. Weve all (ok maybe most of you are sane) thrown a controller, punched ourselves, bit our fingers, or screamed bloody murder while dying over and over again in a platformer that featured poor jump controls, and it sucks. What if there were a platformer that didnt use a jump button at all? How would it play, would the experience be enjoyable, or pure hell? Well the team at Candescent Games has tackled this exact scenario in its upcoming game Tinertia, which believe it or not, doesnt have a jump button.

News::Alien: Isolation Review | Game Informer

Unlike its titular organism, Alien: Isolation is decidedly imperfect. The story falls flat, your objectives lack a sense of accomplishment, and the campaign drags on longer than it should. GamingLives takes a look at the retrotastic arcade shoot-em-up from MixedBag. The visuals dont really change much as you progress, which is a shame when you consider how well games like Rez adapt their look between different levels."

VRFocus - With virtual reality (VR) technology in its infancy, it takes a certain amount of bravery to commit to developing a full blown videogame for head-mounted displays (HMD). That idea of never being comfortable with how the game is unravelling is something that feels quite unique and its extremely well imagined here. The only creatures that willingly inhabit this land are the Uruk, Caragor, Ghuls, and other nasty beings that thrive on death and despair. Chaz at Twinfinite writes, When I first saw the name and some artwork from Green Lava Studios Fenix Rage, I expected some kind of fast-paced action game. The title character looks like someone who could do some damage, and the aesthetic definitely said brawler to me. So when I fired it up to find a frantic, twitch-reaction puzzle platformer it threw me off considerably. After some adjustment time, though, what I found wasnt entirely disagreeable.
