News::Twitch Plays Pokemon viewed over 7.5M times so far

So that whole Twitch Plays Pokemon thing? It's been viewed over 7.5 million times already. At present there's 75,000 concurrent users watching, and "the total number of unique Twitch members who have participated via chat is more than quadruple that amount," according to this Twitch blog update.

In case you missed it, a Twitch channel has been setup so your commands via the chat input controls what's happening in Pokemon Red/Blue. That's 75,000 people going absolutely nowhere right now because they're stuck in that one room with the directional pads (see the screenshot). Still, it's pretty nuts.

There's a Google Doc chronicling all of the major events that have taken place so far. Plus a ton of memes have popped up for those of you that really are into this whole thing. My favorite is this Twitch channel that's applying the chat input for the Pokemon stream to this game of Tetris .

[Editor's Note: There's a visible dong in this video's thumbnail because you start out as a naked dude in Rust, so, yeah. I've embedded it below. Consider this your NSFW warning.]

As far as I'm concerned, this is the perfect example of players making their own fun in Rust.

When first getting started in this brutal multiplayer sandbox game, everyone is a threat. It's terrifying. And if you happen to have a friend on the same server, figuring out how to get to them without either of you dying is an ordeal. Not something I'd want to do again.

Here's that exact experience, made enjoyable by a player who has taken it upon himself to serve as a tour guide. And what a tour guide he is.

News::Pop-up adventure Tengami is out this week for iOS

It's been a bit of a wait for Tengami, that adventure game presented in the style of a Japanese pop-up book, hasn't it?

Developer Nyamyam can take a breather this week, if only for a moment -- the game hits the App Store on Thursday, February 20. It's a universal app priced at $4.99/£2.99 and requires iOS 7. You'll need either an iPhone 4, iPad 2, fifth-gen iPod, or newer device to play.

Some of us are waiting for the PC, Mac, and Wii U versions of Tengami. Those releases are still scheduled for later this summer. Also, I had somehow forgotten David Wise was responsible for the soundtrack here which, yeah, I'm not sure how that's even possible. Silly me.

News::Are you too old for video games?

16BitKings - My favourite hobby has always been something that I have kept quite private, partially in fear that I would be judged by others but also because I thought I might grow out of it. Social pressures are not uncommon for anybody of any age, but it seems to me that there is definitely a stigma surrounding those that choose to spend their time with a video game. It is as I have grown older and continued to enjoy playing games that I have started to become aware of the growing pressure by society to grow up and move on. But why is there this pressure? And where does it come from?

News::No Australian-based servers at launch for Titanfall

Dtoid reader Dont Taze Me Bro reached out to me recently to bring to attention the current situation regarding Titanfall's performance for users trying to play in Australia. As it turns out, those that have been playing in the beta have discovered that they are connecting to servers based in East Asia or South East Asia, as there are no local servers at present.

"As someone who lives on the East Coast (Sydney) that means 135 - 170 ms [ping]," Donttazemebro told me. "Not ideal, but still playable ... We're used to being screwed over my MMOs, but a fast action paced shooter is a different matter. A higher latency does matter."

Respawn community manager Abbie Heppe was asked direct by another Australian-based player, and she stated that Microsoft "is building servers there now." Multiple threads have been started regarding the issue in Respawn's forums, and this specific thread has been created to consolidate everything regarding Australian players. That will be the best place to voice your concerns.

While it's a shame there won't be local servers at launch, they are on the way at least, though no specific time frame was given as to when exactly.

News::Dementium II HD Review | VGU

Dementium: The Ward was quite possibly the first survival horror game to come to the DS, and even with its flaws it was a niche success. Later, Dementium II came in 2010 and took the good bits from the first game, improved on them and established a strong cult following. Playing a horror game on the go is something which was never experienced before the Dementium series and following the success of the series, it has been re-released with upgraded visuals in Dementium II HD for PC.

News::Loadout Review | GIZORAMA

GIZORAMA - Its sometimes easy to forget that the Free-to-Play pricing model was once a promising way for developers to make a ton of money, whilst still providing quality free content. Travesties like the recent Dungeon Keeper reboot have adopted the far more sinister Farmville-esque pricing model wherein players pay real cash to avoid waiting for something to happen in-game. In fact, the few games that arent abusing the F2P model are shooters - Blacklight: Retribution and Team Fortress 2 being some of the more successful examples. In many respects, Edge of Realitys new Free-to-Play MMO shooter Loadout unapologetically rips pages from Team Fortress 2s gospel of free, chaotic, gun-porn carnage. Thats not to say Loadout is a cynical aping of Valves popular shooter, rather, it is a fresh and frantic take on the MMO shooter that breathes new life into the familiar.

Halo 3: ODST was a fantastic side-step and Halo Wars reportedly made a great effort at a console RTS, but the latest attempt to get Halo characters not wearing green body armor on your Xbox, Halo: Spartan Assault, smacks of an easy cash grab. News::Final Fantasy VII remake 'would take a lot to happen'

I always feel the odd fan out for never having wanted a Final Fantasy VII remake. The technical hurdles alone were always obvious while other people listlessly dreamed up VII's world recreated in full 3D, which would dramatically alter it. Its director, Yoshinori Kitase, has already said a potential remake would take three or four times longer to develop than Final Fantasy XIII. Former Square boss Yoichi Wada said it won't be remade until its bested.

Eurogamer asked Kitase about the oft-discussed remake. "If you simply ask me if I personally would like to do that, yes I would. Definitely. There's no lie about it," Kitase said. "But you must believe me when I say it would take a lot to happen."

Budget and staff availability aside, Kitase seems alternatively hesitant, or at least nervous about the prospect. "Even if I casually say I would like to do that, because it would be a huge project I would have to motivate myself to the level that I really am prepared to take on this huge responsibility," he said. "But should I ever take it on, it would have to be the biggest project I've done. My life work. So I would have to be as highly motivated as that to end up with something I'm very happy with. It's a huge thing for me."

Gosh. It almost sounds like quite the weighty albatross around his neck. Leave Kitase alone, you guys! Final Fantasy VII does not need to be remade. Bushido Blade does.

News::This PS+ commercial is super neat, but makes me sad

How are yous guys enjoying your "next gen mulitplayer," eh?

Buzzwords aside, it's nice to see Sony talking multiplayer with this PlayStation Plus TV spot. Of course, it would be nicer if it was expressly couch co-op, which is something consoles need to remember they used to be very good at doing.

Actually, "next gen multiplayer" might mean exactly the opposite -- online multiplayer. Which would make sense for them to vaguely include in the commercial and trump up given that the PS4 requires a paid PS+ subscription for multiplayer. Sneaky. But the couch (co-op) will rise again, damn it!

At least the commercial is fun. I wonder how much it cost to make. More money than I could spend in a lifetime, I'm sure.
