News::Gamers Unscripted: Episode Two Come at me with your Oreos, Bro!

The crew of the Gamers Unscripted podcast is back for episode two of the podcast and what a wild episode it is. They talk about their love of Oreos and how Canada is severely lacking in the extravagant flavors like watermelon, birthday cake, cookie dough, etc. Other topics covered are rogue-like games, the scary as-hell demo P.T., PC shopping, wooden legs, industry gossip, raising kids, and other assorted oddball stuff.

News::The Demise of the PC Game Demo

David Jenkins writes: "For some years now I've noticed that, while articles, videos, previews, features and a whole range of other information and media about games is now plastered all over the net, reserves of PC demos seem to have dried up. ... It seems something strange and, from a business point of view, incredibly cunning is happening. What used to be free demos have become 'early access', 'alphas' and 'betas' or a combination of the two - 'crowdfunding rewards'."

Lego maniacs have another pilgrimage destination to add to their list: The brand's new "experience center" broke ground in Billund, Denmark yesterday. As you'd expect, the building itself looks like it's constructed from a pile of Legos. And thanks to a new Lego Architecture kit, you can start building your own version at home today.

News::Indie Fund backs minimalistic tactical shooter Due Process

A few minutes into learning about Giant Enemy Crab's Due Process for the first time and all I can think to myself is "How am I only now hearing about this?!"

It's a game built on the shoulders of Rainbow Six and SWAT in which players "draw up a plan John Madden-style" before initiating an assault on the defending team. The lo-fi aesthetic isn't much to look at it, but I feel that art direction works for a game like this -- feels more approachable.

The studio has been selected by the Indie Fund to receive financial support for further development of Due Process, which is how I learned of its existence. Indies helping indies.

If you're remotely interested in tactical shooters, be sure to watch this old-but-still-good video.

News::Top 8 List of Shame Games

411mania: "Welcome all to another edition of The 8 Ball. This week, the topic is about games I've tried to play, but just couldn't get into. These are all (mostly) good games, save for one, and are under the rubric of "Spent at least a few hours playing, but the game just did not click". The idea here is that I actually wanted to play and beat most of these games, but I just lost interest in doing so, for one reason or another."

News::Mind: Path to Thalamus Review | The Metaphysical has never looked so good - The Game Fanatics

The Game Fanatics review of the mighty impressive Mind: Path to Thalamus, by creator Carlos Coronado. A first person puzzle game that will test your resolve and patience. Set in a world of striking and commendable beauty, the aesthetics set the game apart. The game is not without fault, some stale voice acting and questionable orb design were unnecessary; other than that, this is a wonderful piece of work. The Game Fanatics score, 7.5/10

News::Final Fantasy Explorers gets a concrete release date and more new job info

There's finally been a release date hammered out for Final Fantasy Explorers in Japan, and it's headed for a 3DS nowhere near you (unless you live in Japan) this December 18.

There's also a savory bit of new information surrounding the game straight out of the latest issue of Jump Magazine, including some newly-announced Summons. Ramuh joins the roster, using electricity and teleportation abilities, and Fenrir is also available, with devastating water-based magic to take out enemies.

Jump magazine also reports a "Trance" system that allows you to perform special attacks without using AP or bolster your abilities for a limited time, which sounds a lot like Zidane's similar ability from Final Fantasy IX.

Is anyone else excited for this spinoff or are we all holding off for a different Final Fantasy title? Personally, I'm going to treat them like Pokémon and catch them all.

News::Julian Plays Indies: Extreme Exorcism

Max Level: The guys and gals over at Golden Ruby Games gave me a chance to check out Extreme Exorcism. I have only played a small piece of the game but I am addicted. I feel like the company described this game best: We like to think of Extreme Exorcism as a mix between Super Crate Box and Ghostbusters with a dose of Towerfall thrown in. If you are going to PAX Prime this year, you definitely have to go by their booth. Tell them Julian sent ya.

News::Super III is worth a look for fans of Super Meat Boy

Games like Super III remind me that, no, I haven't had enough pixel-art platformers yet and probably never will.

As you'll see in the video above or .gifs on Kickstarter, the main mechanic here is protagonist III's ability to teleport over obstacles, through enemies, or even around to the other side of the game screen -- it wraps. That combined with wall jumping and vertical environments means there's going to be some tough platforming to overcome. Also, puzzles and even boss fights.

Super III has a mission structure based on Super Mario 64, which is to say there's an overworld with portals and levels themselves have multiple objectives, some secret.

Super 91 Studios may be a young team -- this is its first commercial game -- but what's shown on Kickstarter has me feeling sufficiently confident. If you're digging it as much as I am but don't want to contribute a pledge, you can still help out by voting for Super III on Steam Greenlight.

News::Zenzizenzic now being published by Adult Swim Games

Making a case yet again as to why it's one of the most awesome publishers around, Adult Swim Games will be publishing the frenetic twin-stick shooter Zenzizenzic . After the game completed a successful Kickstarter campaign, Dutch developer Ruud Koorevaar was able to expand on the game and allow for Steam access, like prior titles Super House of Dead Ninjas and Jazzpunk.

There's also an additional gameplay mode called "Macro" that wasn't yet reached as a stretch goal on the Kickstarter campaign, but now it'll be added with the game upon its release. It's essentially an open-world roguelike variant of normal gameplay within Zenzizenzic, which sounds pretty fantastic, actually. Maybe even as fun as saying the name of the game. Dang, that's a lot of Zs.

Zenzizenzic is releasing for Windows, Mac, and Linux, but there's no concrete date as of yet.
