News:: Axiom Verge certainly looks enticing on Switch

While it was not so surprising that Axiom Verge would be making the jump to the Switch, what is super neat is that developer Thomas Happ Games has partnered with BadLand Games to create a physical edition of the game for consoles. Dubbed the "Multiverse" Edition, this new version won't have any new content for the game, but a bunch of behind the scenes footage and a documentary made by 2 Player Productions.

News:: Tracer from Overwatch zips into figma form

Hot off the heels of her recent Nendoroid debut, Good Smile Company has revealed that Tracer from Overwatch will be receiving a figma as well. Not only that, but the figma is up for pre-order on their site as of this moment, along with Blizzard's own site.

News:: Uh oh, Middle-earth: Shadow of War has a Balrog

In Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf stands tall in front of a Balrog and boldly proclaims "You shall not pass!" It's an important moment because Gandalf probably should've died right then and there. Like, if you yell at a Balrog, you get smoked. Those are the rules, nobody disputes this.

But Gandalf didn't die. Not yet anyway. He fell for a long time while he wrestled with the Balrog. He may as well have been dead as far as the Fellowship was concerned, though. All the hobbits were like "He called us fools, but he's the one shouting at a giant fire demon. Fuck, now we gotta find the volcano by ourselves."

This two-paragraph retelling of Lord of the Rings is my way of saying that Balrogs seem like bad news. Do not engage if you see one. The wizard had a tough time and you are not a wizard (even if you do have a cloak of elvenkind.)

This Middle-earth: Shadow of War trailer has a Balrog and you probably have to fight it at some point. We're seeing Shadow of War at E3 next week and we'll make sure to report back on any Balrog sightings. I've instructed out staff to not fight one under any circumstances.

News:: Watch some of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds myths get busted

Even though it's still in early access, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has become one of the year's most popular titles. The online battle royal game dumps 100 players on an island full of motorcycles, guns, and fingerless gloves before forcing them to fight until one person is left standing. It's one of the rare games that's as tense to watch as it is to play, which has led to PUBG's near-instant runaway success.

The combination of a huge player base and the affable jank of an early access title means that there are plenty of variables left to uncover. Rumors and hot tips are passed around internet communities, as players share the strategies that might help someone else earn an ever-elusive Chicken Dinner. There's no surefire way to success, but that doesn't stop YouTuber DefendTheHouse from tackling some of PlayerUnknown's Battleground's most persistent myths.

News:: Weesa going to Naboo in Star Wars Battlefront II

Because Star Wars is so big, bigger than it's ever been, there is now a Star Wars thing for just about every social media account and form of media.

This includes the "Star Wars Show," which deals with basically all things Jedi and Sith, and will no doubt be part of Disney's efforts to make teachings on "The Force" mandatory for all younglings schoolchildren, while all of us adults are at home praying to a hologram of Harrison Ford.

Before that dark future, we have Star Wars Battlefront II, which is hopefully going to be an improvement from 2015's model. So far things aren't looking too promising, as the map design for Naboo has been revealed by way of the aforementioned show, titled "Assault on Theed," which will host 20v20 battles. Yes, I know Theed is the capital.

We'll get more Battlefront II info going into E3 as early as this weekend.

News:: Valve has a new co-op campaign out for Dota 2

I don't play Dota 2, but the prospect of a four-person cooperative campaign for this type of game sure is enticing. As previously detailed, Valve is putting out a two-act "Siltbreaker" campaign for Battle Pass owners. The pass is still $10, and as of today, Act I: The Sands of Fate is available on Steam.

Aside from the story incentive, there are rewards, too:

"As you battle through multiple play zones in search of Rhyzik, you'll earn completion stars based on your performance level. The first time you complete a zone with one or two stars will net you Battle Points rewards, and delivering a three-star zone performance will grant a treasure from Siltbreaker himself.

Each Siltbreaker Treasure includes a chance to receive an indescribably-rare Immortal Desert Sands Baby Roshan courier, and Battle Pass owners with Battle Level 165 or higher will receive double the treasures for each three-star zone they complete with the reward bonus active. You'll also have the opportunity to unlock achievements that grant even more Battle Points."

You won't need to scrounge up three pals to play through the campaign -- there's also queuing.

The second act, A Vault in the Deep, is scheduled for July.

News:: The Mummy Demastered is a WayForward jam

The Mummy Demastered isn't something I'd be remotely interested in -- unless we were talking Brendan Fraser's Mummy, or a cool developer was on-board. One of these things is true. Shantae studio WayForward is developing the game for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The timing doesn't line up with the film's theatrical debut this week -- it isn't launching until August -- but that's presumably for the best in terms of Demastered not being rushed out the door. The title is a "platforming adventure," and I like look of that minimap and what it implies.

As an undead-fighting "elite Prodigium agent," you'll get to "explore dark forests, maze-like military compounds, and the sandstorm-filled streets of London in this retro-inspired adventure," according to today's announcement. So we won't be playing as Tom Cruise, aka Mr. Mummy, based on that wording.

It's at this point that I'm obligated to link to The Trailer. Please enjoy The Trailer. Especially 1:12.

News:: This 14-minute Gundam Versus trailer shows off the entire cast

The cast of playable mecha in Gundam Versus is pretty damn extensive. Covering the entire series thus far, when the game launches this fall, it will come with 94 different characters to select from. That must be hell for balancing, but it certainly means you'll never run out of interesting match ups.

This new trailer from Bandai Namco's Japanese YouTube account shows off every playable mecha in an extensive 14-minute trailer. You better set this aside for your lunch break, because you're in for quite the demonstration.

News:: Johnny Gat is back in Agents of Mayhem as pre-order DLC

Daniel Dae Kim may be famous for his roles on Lost and Hawaii Five-O, but to me, he will always be Johnny Gat. His performance as the mad dog leader of the Saints in the Saints Row series has become so ubiquitous that I almost can't separate the two. Imagine if Kim actually was that psychopathic or narcissistic in real life.

In a fitting bit of tribute, Deep Silver has announced that Gat will be available in Agents of Mayhem if you pre-order the game from GameStop (or Steam for PC). Ugh, pre-order culture and all, but at least Gat looks great.

CD Projekt Red has released a statement today, revealing that an unidentified individual or individuals are in possession of internal files that belong to the studio. News:: Hackers swipe designs for ‘The Witcher 3’ developer’s cyberpunk game

If you're developing a cyberpunk game, apparently you have to watch out for real-life hackers. According to a tweet from CD Projekt Red, "an unidentified individual or individuals" have acquired some internal documents that relate to the company's upcoming title, Cyberpunk 2077. The persons responsible then demanded a ransom for the material, promising to release the material to the general public if their demands weren't met. While this might seem like an elaborate marketing ploy, the company replied to our email for confirmation with an unambiguous, "This is real."

News:: Payday 2 is free to own on Steam right now

For a limited time, Overkill Software is giving away five million copies of its co-op heist shooter Payday 2 on Steam. It's a game people love, hate, and love to hate, but there's fun to be had with friends.

It's worth reiterating that the studio is adding VR with a free update later this year, so if you nab the base game today for free, you'll be good to go. The VR and non-VR versions will even have cross-play.

News:: Xbox's press conference will run longer than usual

When it comes to E3, I am a creature of routine. Microsoft's presser on Monday morning, Sony's later that night, some stuff in between, then it's demo and interview time. Structure: Sometimes it's good.

This E3 has me all out of sorts. EA's going Saturday, Microsoft is on Sunday. At least Sony's my rock, going at its usual time and place. Still, E3's sprawling more and more as every company looks to secure their own un-shared spot in the limelight.

Microsoft's limelight will run longer than usual. In years past, the Xbox press conference has been about 90 minutes. Xbox head Phil Spencer said today on Twitter that this year's will likely go longer than an hour and a half.

What could that mean? Like Lucy, Microsoft has a lot of 'splaining to do. A sizable chunk of it's presentation will surely be devoted to talk about Project Scorpio. Outside of that, where does the extra time go? The popular request is certainly "That extra time goes to new game reveals."

We'll see in 72-hours' time. We'll see.

News:: This year *would* give us a new Bubsy game, wouldn't it?

It's been an especially weird day on Twitter, and Bubsy -- Bubsy, of all things! -- has played a part.

The anthropomorphic bobcat returns this year with a new PC and PlayStation 4 platformer, Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, in development at Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams studio Black Forest.

One of the touted features is "over a 100 new one-liners," which says everything you need to know.

Today's announcement also marks the return of Accolade with "all new, reimagined games from its vast catalog and brand new franchises that will thrill anyone from 9 to 90 that calls themselves a gamer." Specifically, "franchises like Busby, Hardball, Slave Zero, Deadlock, Eradicator, Redline, and more!"

News:: Mario Kart ride confirmed at Universal's Super Nintendo World

Nintendo and Universal just broke ground on their Super Nintendo World Park in Japan, but several new details have come to light after the opening ceremony.

It looks like the trademark claims for a Super Mario Kart themed ride were correct, as it was the first attraction to be confirmed at the event. Now we have a little more background on why Nintendo sued a go-kart company recently. There's also a short video that sort of shows us more concept art on what the park might become -- hopefully the east and west coast US renditions are as impressive.

As a kid I used to dream of getting video game and anime-based theme parks, and now it seems like that's actually going to happen with Super Nintendo World and Ghibli Park. Granted, young me never accounted for travel costs in those scenarios. Man I hope that they don't half ass the American parks!

News:: PAX West badges just went on sale, go get yours!

You know how this goes. PAX West badges go up for sale, PAX West badges sell out very quickly. Quit reading and hit this link if you want a chance at buying them. Come back when you're in the queue.

All queued up? Good. Here are the other details:

PAX West badges went on sale at 12pm Pacific today -- the exact time we're posting this. In recent years, Penny Arcade has done away with four-day passes, instead opting for convention-goers to buy badges for individual days. A single-day badge is priced at $48 this year; that's $192 for anyone who wants to attend the entire show.

As is usually the case (but not always the case), PAX West will again take place over Labor Day weekend. It's set for September 1 through September 5, in Seattle as always. It'll be a hot ticket, hence us posting this PSA.

Penny Arcade has also given us a heads-up on official PAX merchandise that can be ordered before the show. Pictures of the blanket ($38) and the dice set ($38) are in the gallery below; a photo of the scarf ($28) was not sent. Penny Arcade mentions that these are available to order on the online store and that they'll be sent out before the convention.

That's a secondary priority for anyone who wants to go to PAX West, though. The first step is making sure you have a badge. We're doing our best to help you out with that.

News:: Super realistic racing returns with 'Project Cars 2' in September

Barely a month after the release of the racing game Project Cars back in May 2015, the creators announced they'd already set up a crowdfunding page for a sequel. It seems they were right to be so audacious. Two years after the first game came out, Slightly Mad Studios has released a sizzle reel of footage from the upcoming title as well as a release date: Project Cars 2 is out on September 22nd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

News:: Review: Castle of Shikigami

I sort of remember the long and convoluted history of the first Castle of Shikigami game, but I had to stare at a few sources for several minutes just to be sure I had it right.

Years back, a publisher named XS Games licensed Gunbird and the first Castle of Shikagami as Mobile Light Force and Mobile Light Force 2, respectively. It made practically zero sense, especially when you consider that the latter's entire core was stripped entirely from the marketing, and the publisher went with a full-on Charlie's Angels cover that had no resemblance to the actual occult anime angle of Shikigami.

Over a decade later it's returned, but you don't necessarily need to revisit it.

Fans of realistic racing sim Project CARS will be happy to hear that its sequel, the creatively named Project CARS 2, will be releasing worldwide on September 22 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
