News:: Apollo Justice rated in South Korea, could be coming to 3DS

For a good while, I kept telling myself that I would play all of the main Ace Attorney games. At the moment, I managed to finish the first two Phoenix Wright titles, so I'm not too far behind in this serious trial.

With Korea's Game Rating and Administration Committee listing the fourth game, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, as a 3DS title, there's a slight chance that it could end up on the handheld. In the meantime, we'll have to wait to see if this news will lead to anything big.

If the game appears on the 3DS, then players will get to own every main Ace Attorney game on one system. Since I fell in love with the cast's exaggerated actions during the courtroom scenes, I'm hoping that this news will turn into a reality.

News:: 10 days after release, Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood has a 25% off PC deal

Open up the lands of the east and roll a new Red Mage or Samurai for cheaper than ever on PC with a big 25% discount for Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood. It's the first major discount on the expansion since its June 20 release date.

The deal comes from the UK-based retailer Green Man Gaming. Prior to its release, Stormblood had a ~17% discount at GMG, which was the best public price online until now. While sales were never that strong for Stormblood on GMG (as it oscillated in and out of the top-selling list), now at a 25% discount we are seeing the expansion creeping its way back into the top 10 selling list at the digital retailer.

FFXIV: Stormblood Mog Station Deal

The key from GMG is a Mog Station key. It will not work with the Steam version of the game. While GMG sells worldwide, Stormblood is region-locked to the NA and PAL region, so be sure you're not masking your IP address to the wrong region when making the purchase.

News:: Hey! Pikmin looks decent in this overview video

The name Hey! Pikmin sounds like someone is trying to get your attention before spreading the good word about cute little trinket-collecting critters. If you've been ignoring their pleas up until now, this overview video from Nintendo covers the side-scrolling portable adventure pretty well.

One of the treasures is a camera and it's known in-universe as a "Smile Detector." Checks out!

We're closing in on the July 28 launch and I'm not exactly excited for this Arzest-developed game, but I do think I'll play it. That's actually a big deal for me -- I've barely used my 3DS as of late.

News:: 'GTA Online' update brings new multiplayer mode and patriotic swag

Rockstar's new update for Grand Theft Auto Online is (mostly) all about Independence Day, a holiday Americans will be celebrating through the weekend and, some, until Tuesday. The goods, which are now live, include an adversary mode dubbed "Dawn Raid," where two teams of up to six people can parachute into a combat zone and battle it out to find hidden packages. And, since this is a 4th of July-themed update after all, you'll also get a bunch of patriotic Stars and Stripes swag, including weapons and apparel for your avatar.

News:: You should check out the LawBreakers open beta this weekend

Boss Key has opened up the LawBreakers beta for the long weekend, and I'd implore you to try it if you're at all interested in arena shooters. I'm not always, but I found it to be good, hectic-but-still-manageable fun. Brett and I played the game together once, a year ago, and we got way into it.

More to the point, LawBreakers is going to cost $30 when it launches for PC and PlayStation 4 in August -- it's not free-to-play as originally envisioned. This is probably your best chance to see what's what.

The open beta is now live on Steam and it'll run until Wednesday, July 5 at 9:00am Pacific.

  • New Map: Vertigo– located in a remote location in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Vertigo is a high-altitude reconnaissance outpost with near suborbital elevation;
  • New Mode: Uplink – capture the uplink in the center of the map and deliver to your team base, continuing to protect it until points are earned;
  • Weapon Stickers – players can test a new customization feature and earn a special Beta participant Weapon Sticker by completing five matches during the event. This reward transfers to the full release of the game at launch.

Here's a quick preview of that mode in action:

As for the PS4 version, there's a similar event happening this weekend, but it's a closed beta.

News:: Destiny 2 does away with random item rolls

The most committed Destiny players have a lot less grinding ahead of them when the sequel releases later this year. Developer Bungie says that variable stats on weapons and armor are a thing of the past. In Destiny 2, each item will have its own fixed perks.

In an interview with Mashable, Destiny 2 director Luke Smith confirms that there will no longer be a randomized system that sets two versions of the same item apart. "There aren't random rolls on weapons anymore. Better Devils is a Crucible hand cannon, and what it has on it is what it has on it. Period," he said.

The reason for this change seems to be because it'll give Bungie more maneuverability when it comes to tweaking the game. If something is off with an item, the developer can make a change that impacts everyone the same way. That was tough in the original game because everything was unique.

This direction will prove to be somewhat divisive among Destiny players. On the one hand, there's no longer a need to grind for the same item over and over, hoping that the next drop will be the best version you've seen yet. But, as Smith says "How can my second, third, and tenth Better Devils hand cannon be interesting?"

That's a delicate balance that Bungie will need to figure out how to strike. The developer will have more precise control over Destiny 2, but that comes at the cost of players being less likely to feel like they hit the jackpot.

News:: Trailer: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is an old video game

Someone, no I won't name names, wrote a damned fine article when the Jumanji sequel revealed a first look image back in September. All right! You caught me. It was me who wrote said inspiration. Let's cease with the accolades and get back to the reporting. Now, Jumanji 2 (as we affectionately called it) is Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and if I'm to believe the trailer, I guess that's because the entire movie is scored to the Guns N Roses classic "Welcome to the Jungle?" Peep the trailer and then keep reading, friends.

Where to begin? Choices, choices, choices. Let's break this down scientifically, by using bullet points:

  • This movie was half a mindless twit way from being called Jumanji: In the Jungleand scored to Billy Joel's "The Lion Sleeps Tonight.
  • The filmmakers clearly didn't let outcries of sexism sway any of their decision making. In fact, they seem to have doubled down on pervasive stereotyping: women who as they get hotter, burn more and more of the clothing off their body--that makes sense--it's science.
  • The movie has little to do with its predecessor, apparently.
  • Why all the subterfuge to get the four stars together as a cast? Was the only perceivable way these people could be lumped together to make them 'avatars' from a video game created by four equally different high-schoolers?
  • Now with motorcycles: hip.
  • Yes, The Rock has muscles, we caught that.
  • Yes, Karen Gillan looks wonderful as Tombraider, who'd have thought.
  • Robin Williams may be rolling in his grave (too soon?).
  • Nick Jonas is in this? What the hell?
  • Have we come so far since 1995 that a board game can't be used as a plot device? I get that it's more restrictive than the open play format of being within a video game, but why not just make it a reboot if abandoning the confines of the original completely--reboots have been more egregious than that.
  • We just had The Jungle Book, so these jungle critters better look amazing.

Are you more or less excited for this Jumanji sequel after seeing the trailer? What do you think of the plot format? Can these three funny men out-funny the original one?

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson shows off his comic skills.

News:: Making your bed is for suckers

Right now, is your bed made? If your answer is "no, of course not" congratulations. I am electing you as a mentor to your peers who answered "Yes" and "No, not right now, but usually."

Look, I get it. We all have to sleep somewhere. Beds are as good an option as any (outside of Japanese futons that get put away during the day -- extra room!). And I'm sure your mother or legal guardian required you to make your bed each day in some attempt towards discipline, the same way the military screams at enlistees until their bunks are perfectly creased at 45 and 90 degree angles for no other reason than to make sure they're good at following orders, no matter how stupid. But you're an adult now, right? And not an active member of the United States military? So why are you still making your bed?

Probably habit or some unexamined notion of civility. Truth is, there's no reason to make your bed. Here's what you should do. Wake up (bleary-eyed and later than is deemed okay by polite society). Immediately reach for your phone, laugh at messages from friends, delete every single email you got overnight, then open broader social media until you shake with rage. Throw off the covers and go to take a piss. Leave your comforter in a pile, however it landed, mimicking the arbitrary, natural beauty of a vast expanse of wind-shaped sand dunes. Your dog will find it more comfortable anyways.

Here's what you shouldn't do: make your bed. You should not straighten out your pillows, one on each side in perfect symmetry. You should not pull your flat sheet taut, creasing it over itself -- frankly, you should not even have a flat sheet. No need to beat your comforter into submission or make sure it drapes over each side exactly 8.5 inches. Why would you? You're going to sleep in there tonight anyways.

Undoubtedly charlatans will try to trick you into making your bed, if not by some misguided appeal to decorum (Eat my ass! you respond) then by LOGIC. Oh, why wash your clothes or shower if you're just going to get dirty again, huh? Well, dipshit, because good hygiene prevents the spread of disease and smelling bad in public sucks, which is where your body and clothes go. You know what doesn't go in public: your slightly mussed up bed. Who gives a shit?

Seriously, who are you trying to impress? People who subscribe to Better Homes and Gardens? Why? Do you read Better Homes and Gardens? No. You glance at it in the grocery checkout line as you desperately scan the environment, looking for things to look at before the anesthesia of glossy magazines, iconic candy wrappers, and local realtor ads on the dividers funnel you back to staring at a conveyor belt of mid-shelf booze, cereal, and limes. You do this so you don't have to make eye contact with the cashier before it's your turn to fake a smile and warm greeting to a person you've been ten feet away from for several minutes but are pretending to have noticed for the first time. Oh! Didn't notice you there! How nice to see you! I guess while you're here, if you don't mind ringing me up? You never even pick up Better Homes and Gardens and pretend to thumb through it. It could be a porno mag with a sly cover for all you know.

Stop making your bed.

News:: Xbox's big summer sale is live

There's an ice cream truck that sometimes drives through my neighborhood during the summer. I rarely see it but I always know it's there because it's blaring that generic-yet-incredibly-specific Ice Cream Truck Music. Even though it comes by fairly often, I still find novelty in it.

It doesn't seem like ice cream trucks should be a thing in 2017. They feel like a relic of a bygone era, something that should've died in the '90s. Driving a vehicle around every city block in hopes that a kid will come running up with a dollar cannot be a good business model. I bet all the executives from Big Ice Cream Truck get together to discuss how they're in the red for the 88th straight quarter.

If you've been saving all your quarters and half-dollar coins by not patronizing your local ice cream truck, you may be interested in Xbox's current Ultimate Game Sale [Segue!]. By my count, there are 441 items discounted. All the deals are listed here. Go rummage around and see if there's anything you like.

Just know that your video game purchasing habits are killing the ice cream trucks. That's a leap in logic that I feel comfortable making.

News:: Deals: Wolfenstein II and upcoming shooters up to 24% off with stacking coupon

Probably the only thing that got our jimmies rustled during E3 this year was the announcement of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. While the sequel to the popular Wolfenstein remake series was expected eventually, it was still a nice reprieve from all those yet-more-Skyrim announcements.

If you're planning to play at or near launch, one of the best deals for the game and similar upcoming first-person shooters can be found this holiday weekend at GMG. Using the stacking coupon code "FPS15E3" you'll be able to take an additional 15% off select triple-A FPS titles, making cheap prices on Doom VFR, Star Wars: Battlefront II, and so-so pricing on Call of Duty: WWII and its ubiquitous digital deluxe edition.

Both Wolfenstein II and Doom VFR have been discounted since their announcement on E3 for pre-order phases - but they've been typically hovering around 10% to 15% off at various digital retailers. At 24% off, this is the best deal we've seen yet.

Upcoming FPS Deals

Use coupon: FPS15E3

The coupon expires next week on July 6 at 1pm Eastern Time. While the pre-order bonuses for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus haven't been revealed thus far, we're fairly certain it'll be included with your purchase at GMG. Our best guest? Some in-game weapons and skins. The best case scenario is a free copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order given the game is now in $6 territory based on our price history.

News:: Marvel Heroes Omega is out for Xbox One

Marvel Heroes Omega is one of those itch-scratching games that's easy to fall into. Not the best, not the worst, but it gets the job done. The free-to-play action-RPG launched on PlayStation 4 last month with an open beta, and as of today, Xbox One players can beat up droves of henchmen too.

The PS4 open beta brought in a million players, so, yeah. These ports will do well. Marvel Heroes Omega is officially out for PS4 and Xbox One. It's a new day and a new colony. My duplicants, dead-eyed and bushy-tailed, eagerly dig out rock with abandon in every direction. Beds are placed, power is created, and research is done. Things are looking up!

Wait, why are things looking… dimmer? Why is the oxygen concentration low, suddenly? What is that swirling green gas around the lavatories? Why is everyone so tired all the time? Wait, is that a hydrogen geyser? What happened to all the food? What do you mean, “Otto got stressed out and ate it all”?!

Is that chlorine gas?

Why is everything covered in vomit?

Why is everyone dead?

News:: Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Master Mode is no joke

Are you ready for Master Mode in the first Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC?

I didn't think I was prepared for the heightened challenge given that enemies are powered up, can have higher maximum levels, and gradually regain their health. Now, after seeing what's waiting for me up on the Great Plateau, I definitely don't think I'm ready for Master Mode. Here's a sample.

In the words of uploader ConvictedBattler, "There is no way I'm going to take on a White Lynel when I have zero weapons." If this is how Master Mode starts, I'm afraid to see how it ends.

There's still plenty left for me to do in my normal save file. That's what I'm telling myself, anyway.

News:: Review: Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas

It isn't often here at Destructoid that we don't review a game that has been released for almost four years across seven platforms, but Oceanhorn is one of those cases.

This Zelda-like started out as an iOS game way back in the age of Obama in the year 2013, before the dark times we currently live in. The developers at Cornfox & Bros. have managed to combine the setting of The Wind Waker with the multi-layered gameplay found in A Link to the Past in a serviceable game that isn't quite on par with an actual Zelda title.

So, basically about what you'd expect from an indie attempting to clone one of Nintendo's biggest franchises.

News:: Mass Effect: Andromeda will reportedly not get any single-player add-ons

Mass Effect: Andromeda has had a tough go of it over the past three months. It launched in a disappointing state, rife with technical issues and tonal problems. BioWare is one of those studios that people expect more from and Andromeda came up short in most everyone's eyes. It was enough to force EA to put the series on ice for the foreseeable future.

We were already positive that there wouldn't be a new Mass Effect game anytime soon, but now we can be reasonably sure that there won't even be a substantial add-on to Andromeda. Kotaku reports that EA and BioWare no longer have plans to release any single-player DLC. The sources for this report appear to be some of the same ones that helped contribute to Kotaku's in-depth postmortem on the troubled development of Andromeda.

In the likely event that this is true, it seems to have been a reactionary move from EA. Andromeda strongly hints at the idea of DLC that explores what happened to the Quarians in their effort to reach the new galaxy. The foundation was laid for at least one story-focused add-on. The base game was so ill-received that the publisher must have decided more single-player content isn't worth the investment.

Apart from any multiplayer DLC, this is probably a wrap on Mass Effect: Andromeda. It's ironic how closely it mirrors the in-game plot. Excitement about something new and promising quickly turned to disappointment and lost faith. Art imitates life, but sometimes they work hand in hand.

News:: StarCraft's Alexei Stukov is coming to Heroes of the Storm

Blizzard promised that 2017 would be a good year for supports in Heroes of the Storm, and they're making good on that promise with Alexei Stukov. Yes the StarCraft Infested Terran is back, and although he doesn't seem like a dedicated healer he does have a secondary supper feel to him.

Stukov relies on investing his teammates for heals, which spread across allies, ensuring that players will have to adapt to tighter formations to get the full effect. The rest of his kit revolves around his garish arm, which fuels his two damage dealing Heroics and a few other standard abilities. As someone who's big on off-supports like Tassadar he'll probably fit right into my playstyle, but I'm not sure if it'll be up to snuff for the rest of the community.

Stukov will hit the Nexus soon -- likely following a PTR period.

News:: Elvira starring in Infinite Warfare: Absolution DLC

Whilst others wrestling with puberty chose Cindy Crawford or Claudia Schiffer, Elvira was the first girl I had a poster of on my wall. The flirtatious horror-host has been a sharp, beloved and funny-as-hell scream queen for decades and is now set to make her first video game appearance since her '90s DOS adventures.

And the sardonic temptress will be making her return in, of all franchises, Call of Duty.

Next month sees the launch of Absolution, an expansion pack for Infinite Warfare. Alongside four new multiplayer maps, included for all your buddy-shooting enjoyment, Absolution features a new chapter for the popular 'Zombies' mode.

Attack of the Radioactive Thing will see four players fight off legions of the undead in a kitsch '50s horror environment, reminiscent of the 'creature features' of the day. Our girl Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) will be on hand to guide players to safety, offering tips, side-quests, and encouragement in her trademark risque manner.

Infinite Warfare: Absolution will drop on PS4 on July 6. PC and Xbox releases are expected at a later date.

News:: 7 things I'd like brought back from when I was a kid...

When I was a kid I was into things. Things that gave me that rare combination of joy and fuzziness I've only since felt for women and tandoori chicken with mint chutney. Some of these things were games and some were literature. Some were activities.

Now if you were a superhero-loving kid or a Transformers-loving kid, well, these days you're either spoiled for choice or shit out of luck. But they never really did anything with the things that I loved. I mean, I know that new Transformers movie is pretty shit/bananas but where's my binge-able Go Bots miniseries Netflix (kidding-don't)?

For that reason, and that reason alone, I've compiled a list of 7 things/games I'd like brought back as games/things, as well as alternatives to sate said nerd lust. Either way, let the games begin. I mean seriously, where is that Turrican HD console compilation and/or remake?

News:: Fumito Ueda offered 'content and tuning' suggestions for the Shadow of the Colossus remake

The PlayStation 4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus was my favorite surprise at E3, bar none.

Sony hasn't said much about the project -- watch this trailer and you'll be up to speed -- but we do know that it's a collaboration between Bluepoint and Japan Studio, and they're targeting 2018.

Is game director and lead designer Fumito Ueda involved? No, not directly.

He's busy figuring out his next game. But speaking with Eurogamer, he explained that he sent over suggestions for the PS4 remake. "I transmitted my petition about the content and tuning but I don't know [if] the implementation will be what I told," Ueda said through a translator.

"Those things of the remake that I would like to change, I can't mention, because if I say one thing and in the final version that thing is not included, it's a problem." Ahh! That only adds to our curiosity!

Ueda did confirm that "there are 16 enemies and there's a story about 16 enemies, so to change this history... I don't think about changing this history. It's finished with 16 enemies. It's OK."

News:: Should you get GoNNER on Switch? Take this quiz and find out

What Binding of Isaac does for The Legend of Zelda, GoNNER comes pretty darn close to doing for Metroid. Like Metroid, it's largely about stumbling upon bizarre new creatures. Some can be peacefully avoided, others require hard and fast hunting, and all the while you'll feel intimidated and excited by the living, breathing alien world you're thrust into. After a few rounds, you'll learn that retreading old ground with new items and weapons allows you to go places and do things that would have seemed impossible at first, giving even more depth to the organic environments.

Unlike most roguelikes, GoNNER balances procedurally generated levels with a fair amount of consistently placed power-ups, all of which can be kept as a permanent part of your initial load-out options. Where many games in the genre don't quickly reward the player for persistence, GoNNER allows you to build both your skill and your ongoing inventory of tools at a fairly brisk pace.

The downside to that is, it won't take your average player as long to see everything here as in comparable games like Isaac and Spelunky. Then again, it's only $10, and still offers the potential for tens of hours of action and discovery, so compared to something like Kamiko, it's definitely not a bad deal.

This is just one of the many pro versus con arguments worth weighing while deciding if GoNNER is right for you. If you still can't decide after reading our review, take the quiz below for some added insight.
