News::Saints Row IV Hands-On Preview | CheatCC

CCC says: "My first experience with Saints Row IV was back at PAX East. I was treated to a President that wielded a Dubstep gun, had super powers, and was attempting to hold off the alien invasion of Earth. Imagine my shock when my preview of Saints Row IV didnt begin in Washington D.C. or Steelport. Instead, it began in the Middle East."

News::The Walking Dead: 400 Days Review - AusGamers

AusGamers has reviewed The Walking Dead: 400 Days and writes: As the epilogue messily ties everything off, its hard to say for sure whether 400 Days is an absolutely essential part of the Walking Dead experience, or whether its mostly a fantastic reminder that Telltale knows exactly what theyre doing. Were inclined to be optimistic though, and believe that those little pop-up reminders of who will remember what will resonate further.

News::You can now buy Final Fantasy VII on Steam

While it's the same thing that Square Enix starting selling on its digital store last year, Final Fantasy VII has come to Steam. Priced at $11.99, this revised version of the classic has cloud saving, achievements, a character booster (don't give in!), and a number of other miscellaneous changes as detailed here.

It's worth pointing out that, like the digital PC edition of FFVII available directly from Square Enix, you will similarly need an account with the company for your cloud saves. So if having to register with Square Enix is enough to put you off from purchasing this, be warned.

News::DarthMod-maker creating entirely new Civil War RTS

The DarthMod series spent almost a decade tooling and toying with each release of a Total War game. All in all, Nick Thomadis' mods have been downloaded over a million times. Total War fans and owners previously unaware of these mods can learn more about them here.

The man behind DarthMod found there were things he "could not deliver to players as a modder," and so he's making an entirely new strategy game of his own design, Ultimate General: Gettysburg. It's about the Civil War, if you didn't glean that, which is a cool choice. It's is a relatively unused era as far as games are concerned.

A full run down of plans for the game can be found here. It plans to: eschew rock/paper/scissor design; focus on good, realistic AI without bogging itself down in realism; and a player-inspired development cycle that will take fan feedback into account. Ultimate General is planned for PC, but, also -- and surprisingly -- tablets, where the aim is for same, full-fledged RTS to play out. Aiming high. You probably had to with muskets to get good range.

One of the most interesting things to me is the "Dynamic Campaign," detailed a bit lower on the site. Losing too many troops in an earlier battle can affect you nrgatively in the long run, including causing a "a speculative scenario battle which you will be unable to win." Neat. Consequences ramp up the stakes.

News::DRM May Get Messy As Companies Fight For Control

No one can deny that the internet has been quite crazy when it comes to the Xbox One. A large part of that has been due to Microsoft's poor PR, but also because fans are just very passionate. Now that Microsoft has chosen to break away from its previous position on DRM and Online Requirements, there's a storm brewing that many do not see. Perhaps it was already upon us, but developers are going to start taking matters into their own hands.

NZGamer: "High Moon Studios have injected just the right amount of crazy into this game and fans of the comics will latch onto it immediately. Others however, might need to prepare themselves for one of the maddest gaming experiences theyve ever encountered. News::Saints Row IV Hands-On Preview (Game Freaks 365)

News::Computer mouse inventor Doug Engelbart dies at 88

The inventor of the computer mouse, Doug Engelbart, has died aged 88. Engelbart developed the tool in the 1960s as a wooden shell covering two metal wheels, patenting it long before the mouse's widespread use. He also worked on early incarnations of email, word processing and video teleconferences at a California research institute.

News::Kingdoms Rise reminds me of Bushido Blade

I've always been keen on the idea of precision-based swordplay in games, a more surgical counterpoint to finely honed blades phasing through enemies for invisible damage points. It's why I've loved games like Bushido Blade, the classic PS1 fighter replete with bone breaking and one hit kills. Unfortunately, such titles seem few and far between. Presumably because they're hard to do well.

The two-person developed Kingdoms Rise , currently vying to be greenlit on Steam, seems similar in nature, though the developers have noted its particularly influenced by the Star Wars: Jedi Knight games. Not that I'll hold that against them. It's also not sticking with pure swordsmanship, featuring supplementary magic and other abilities. The character creator seems wonderfully robust, too.

Another point of delineation is the online multiplayer focus, featuring three different teamed and free-for-all modes. I'm particularly interested in the no-spawn "Opposing Kingdoms" mode. Seems to fit the tenor. Offline is restricted to bot-filled scenarios, either custom made or a pre-made gauntlet. It's not quite the one-on-one Bushido Blade-esque title I've been craving, but I'm definitely interested. Are you down for some thoughtful fantasy stabbing?

News::The Walking Dead: 400 Days Review | Polygon

Polygon: "If this is a prologue, though, it's a brilliant way to introduce these characters, to give the player a little skin in the game before Season 2 is even on their hard drive. Either way, 400 Days is a wonderful little anthology and a heartening reminder that, even in a world that has been thoroughly mined across countless media, Telltale is still able to unearth new stories."

News::Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 Review | Geekenstein

"Overall, Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 is a good iteration on the series. The addition of Sealed helps evolve the series and adds a great element of creativity and deckbuilding that was sorely lacking from the earlier games. The low price and large amount of content makes Duels 2014 a great entry point into the game of Magic. However, the improved AI ensures that there is content for the more experienced players as well. For these reasons, Im giving Duels 2014 a solid four out of five. Magic fans will like it, but the very nature of the game of Magic makes it unappealing to nonplayers who arent looking to learn." - Jake Petersen of Geekenstein.com

News::Rugby Challenge 2: Lions Tour Edition Review - The Digital Fix

Sidhes 2011 offering Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge was a mixed bag. Blending a Fifa-esque gameplay model tailored to rugby union rules, it offered a fast-paced kickabout which was hampered by limited licensing, poor character models and an AI that was too easy to exploit. Rugby Challenge 2: The Lions Tour Edition is a timely sequel aiming to cash-in on the current Lions Tour, but one which adds little to its predecessor other than a few tweaks, and suffers from the same faults as its predecessor.

Yesterday Ed Boon announced there would be more DLC characters coming to Injustice: Gods Among Us.
