News:: Kinetiquettes breaks free from Capcom for their next big figure release

Kinetiquettes has made a pretty solid name for themselves since they burst onto the scene several years ago. For the most part, they have focused on Capcom characters for their releases, specifically the shoto characters from Street Fighter and they've made some pretty well-known fans. Anybody who watches James Chen and Ultradavid might be able to spot a few of their figures in the background of their room, especially during the Tuesday show.

Kinetiquettes did branch off and released a Devil May Cry diorama as well as special release featuring Daigo "the Beast" Umehara but now they have broken free from their previous works and their next figure release is going to be Dizzy from Guilty Gear X!

News:: Actor says screenplay for Solo remained unchanged under Ron Howard

Solo has been a giant mess from start to finish, and with its release coming up soon, it definitely doesn't have any of the hype around it that other Star Wars films have. Did you know the release is only two months away? I had completely forgotten it was coming.

To figure out what went wrong Vulture somehow got one of the actors involved with the movie to spill the beans. He mentioned a few things of note including the fact that the original directors, Phil Lord and Chris Taylor, who were shown the door due to creative differences, seemed to be unable to handle the pressures of a movie this big. They often asked for shot after shot with little direction or idea of where they were going. In contrast, Ron Howard, who has been directing movies like this since the dawn of time, took over for them and ran an efficient ship, much more to the liking of Disney and the cast itself.

“Phil and Chris are good directors, but they weren’t prepared for Star Wars. After the 25th take, the actors are looking at each other like, ‘This is getting weird.’ [Lord and Miller] seemed a bit out of control. They definitely felt the pressure; with one of these movies, there are so many people on top of you all the time. The first assistant director was really experienced and had to step in to help them direct a lot of scenes.”

The actor went on to say that the acting coach that was brought in for Alden Ehrenreich, who was having trouble getting down Harrison Ford's swagger, did a great job. Of course he throws a ton of shade towards Ehrenreich while doing it, saying, "Alden’s not a bad actor — just not good enough." Ouch.

In fairness, a rep for Lord and Miller said that this depiction of their time directing was completely inaccurate, and to be honest the Vulture article does read a bit like a hit piece to shore up everyone's confidence in Howard's vision. One could easily see the studio telling some second tier actor to give this interview anonymously in order to try to reassure everyone that this film isn't going to suck, while also assuaging angry fans that the script is still the same, as this person claims it is.

Now, if you'll excuse me I have to adjust my tin hat because the Hollywood-types are beaming their mind control thoughts into my head.

News:: The best Far Cry 5 deals on PC and console for release week

Far Cry 5 goes live Tuesday (read our review here) and the deals are heating up as the game nears release. For those interested in the wack-a-cultist title set in the heartlands of Montana (because why not?), discounts depend on your platform of choice, membership, and whether you're a new or old customer.

PC gamers can scoop up the Uplay copy of the game for $47.99 with coupon code NEW20 for 20% off, the caveat being that the code will work only on new accounts at GMG. You'll also have to use the code within 24 hours of account registration. We're not sure how GMG determines a "new account," but as far as we can tell, a new email address may be sufficient; your mileage may vary.

For console gamers, deals are a bit more on the light side of things as Far Cry 5 isn't exactly a small title from an unknown IP. That said, the game is thankfully qualified for Best Buy's pre-order $10 rewards certificate bonus, provided you buy the game before its release date tomorrow morning. The rewards also stack with Best Buy's Gamers Club Unlocked, netting you 20% off to $47.99 (membership is $30 for a two-year account).

Far Cry 5 Deals

Note: Uplay keys are being sent out immediately as pre-load has already started.

Just added: There's a Blue Yeti Blackout Mic "Streamer Bundle" deal from Best Buy for the week, where you can pick up a Blue Yeti Blackout Microphone for $109.99 and they're tossing in a free copy of Far Cry 5. Overall not a bad deal for a new title.

Far Cry 5 Pre-Order Bonus

The pre-order bonus for Far Cry 5 across all platforms is the "Doomsday Prepper Pack" which features a Doomsday Prepper Outfit (complete with a cap!), Doomsday 1911 Handgun, and a Doomsday Van. These are all cosmetic in nature and nice digital bonus to have but shouldn't sway your purchasing decision, in our opinion.

News:: Pokemon Go will be getting quests and Mew this week

For a few months now, Pokemon Go has been rumored to be getting an objective based "quest" mode that would task players with daily goals to unlock things. Turns out that plan is true and is launching a lot sooner than people expected. Starting this Friday (March 30), Pokemon Go will be updated to include a new quest system and the ability to research specific items and Pokemon.

The biggest inclusion has to be the legendary Pokemon Mew. Mew was previously unavailable in-game, so I'm almost certain we'll be seeing a bunch of people walking around and trying to nab this rare creature. The quest system will include two types of objectives; "Field Research" and "Special Research." Field research is very basic and simply requires spinning Pokestops or catching specific creatures while special research will see Professor Willow taking players on a story driven quest line.

While you'll be free to complete as many objectives in a day as you'd like, you'll only be able to receive one stamp per day. Upon getting seven stamps, you'll then have the chance to study a "Research Breakthrough," which is where Mew will come in as well as the opportunity to craft Rare Candies and other hard to get items.

I've someone managed to keep playing Pokemon Go despite its simplicity, but this sounds like a great addition to the title. It should make for more fruitful expeditions into the wild, at least.

News:: Rare drops its planned 'death cost' for Sea of Thieves

Rare planned to introduce a "small gold fee" for dying in Sea of Thieves, a change that didn't sit well with many players. The idea was that you'd be dinged for dying out in the world to skeletons or sharks, not against other players, and the severity of the charge would depend on the cause of death.

I understood the general idea and I'm not opposed to Rare adding more risk-reward mechanics to the game, but as is, the proposed "death cost" only served to make an already grindy cosmetic-buying process feel even grindier. Thankfully, the developers have changed course following fan feedback.

There are surely better ways to make death have more of an impact in Sea of Thieves, so I'm glad to see the studio listen to fans here. I think the much more pressing issue is to address how and where player-led ships respawn once they've fallen in battle. Right now, if crews are determined enough, PvP skirmishes can go on and on with seemingly no end in sight. The ship you just sunk can reappear at a nearby outpost and quickly come back with a fresh supply of cannonballs and planks.

Along with the dropped death cost, Sea of Thieves executive producer Joe Neate also spoke about the team's schedule right now. "Currently we are working through the top service issues to ensure everyone can play and it's working as expected, that is our no.1 priority," he said. "Next step is collect the top feedback points, and we'll be working through those and giving our thoughts on them in due course."

News:: Elusive Day of Sigma OVA might be included in upcoming Mega Man X Legacy Collection

For years fans have been enjoying the full-blown Mega Mani OVA "The Day of Sigma," a 24-minute feature that sets the stage for the Mega Man X series. It isn't distributed all that often from Capcom, but that might change based on a BBFC classification that contends that the Mega Man X Legacy Collection (either its single or dual release, we're not sure) will include it.

Right there in the listing, which includes a rundown of the extras menu (and mostly consists of various trailers for Mega Man X-X8), is Day of Sigma in all of its 24 and a half minute glory. Now you have a choice: you can either wait for the X Legacy Collection to maybe include it, or just watch it below on YouTube, where it's been available for the last five years by way of its inclusion in Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X

When I said "elusive" I mean that in the official sense!

News:: Review: Orwell: Ignorance is Strength

What is the 'truth', these days? As we slip further into niche news outlets, right wing or liberal, the truth is becoming less about the facts and more about the emotional response. Opinions are being published and weaponised on a daily basis, articles are turning into clickbait videos, and forums are in danger of being black and white echo chambers. The web might seem like a mistake for journalism, but it's also an opportunity for those who know how to exploit those emotions for their own gain.

In response to this, Orwell's second season, Ignorance is Strength, attempts to create its own reflective war of information, where surveillance is no longer used to find the facts, just ways to hurt its opponents. But thoughout its politcial thriller ambitions, Orwell never forgets about the victims beyond the black mirror.

News:: Xbox Game Pass gets Cities: Skylines and more in April

If you're one of the presumably many people who subbed to Xbox Game Pass for Sea of Thieves, you may be curious to know what's coming up next for the program. Microsoft is debuting Robocraft Infinity, a robot-building multiplayer action game, on April 11 -- it launches and hits the pass on the same day.

Next month will also bring these titles for subscribers:

It's worth pointing out that the Xbox One version of Cities: Skylines has curated mods, something we don't often see in console ports. That's neat. I'd say Cities is the standout title in this group but I know people also had a good time with ClusterTruck and Kingdom. Not a bad lineup at all.

News:: Black Panther is now the highest grossing superhero movie ever

Well, the day has come. After the last few weeks of absolute box office domination we all saw this coming, but Black Panther has become the highest grossing superhero movie of all time domestically. That means it made more than Avengers and is now the fifth highest grossing film of all time.

But, like T'Challa himself, it had to be dethroned at some point, and that honor went to Pacific Rim: Uprising. That's not because the giant robot film destroyed the box office or anything, but simply because a movie that's been our for six weeks is eventually going to drop because everyone has seen it. Pacific Rim itself just did pretty well on its own accord, but couldn't be called a triumphant return either, with a 25 percent drop off from the original's opening weekend. The film should still be a success worldwide, as China loved the first movie and turned out in a big way for this one as well.

Most importantly -- and I'm SHOCKED about this -- Sherlock Gnomes opened really, really badly. How could you not rush out to a sequel-of-sorts to Gnomeo and Juliet? If we don't go see this movie how will we ever force more gnome puns out of Hollywood? Gnomeward Bound? Mad Max: Shiny and Gnome? Gnoman Holiday? Bio-Gnome starring Gnomey Shore? These movies will never exist because of you. I hope you're happy.

And for those wondering where Isle of Dogs is, it only opened on 27 screens this weekend, pulling in a staggering, $1.57 million. That's $58,000 per screen! Expect it in the top ten when it opens wider.

News:: Nab a free copy of The Darkness II for Steam

I know a bunch of us have a soft spot for The Darkness and wouldn't mind seeing the property continue in one form or another, but for the time being, all we can do is reminisce. And if you want to join the conversation, today's a good day to start -- The Darkness II is free for PC and Mac right now.

The Humble Store is giving out free Steam keys during a 48-hour promotion. Swell thing to do!

It's been long enough since The Darkness II originally came out that I think a supernatural shooter could really hit the spot about now and feel fresh again. I miss having demonic arms.

News:: New God Eater 3 trailer confirms PS4 and PC release

At the weekend, Bandai Namco held an eighth anniversary stream for the God Eater series. As part of the festivities, a new trailer was released for the in-development God Eater 3, as well as announcing that the game is coming to PS4 and PC.

The new trailer stars the wonderfully named Hugo Pennywort, who will team up with the player's chosen protagonist to go giant squashing. Although God Eater could be considered a fairly niche series, the recent success of equally-niche Monster Hunter: World could bring new fans to the God Eater franchise, having fallen in love with engaging in extended battles with gargantuan creatures.

Though we now have confirmed platforms for God Eater 3, we are still yet to have a release date confirmed, for Japan or elsewhere. Fortunately Producer Yusuke Tomizawa has since tweeted that news for Western fans is forthcoming. Bandai Namco is holding a demo session at their headquarters next month, so hopefully we will get some juicy details then.

News:: Warframe's developers removed an 'insanely profitable' microtransaction to protect its reputation

Grinding Gear Games and Digital Extremes are getting a lot of clout for Path of Exile and Warframe respectively, and a lot of the reason for that is respect for its playerbase.

A situation involving the latter popped up recently as a result of a NoClip documentary, which spoke to Digital Extremes GM Sheldon Carter about a specific wildly popular microtransaction. While Warframe makes its mark with cosmetics and a free-to-play scheme, every so often any given community has the sentiment that a line has been crossed. That apparently happened with Kubrows (pet) re-coloring.

After seeing a user buy the feature 200 times, they apparently realized "[they] had created a slot machine," and took it out a day later. This was early yet, before the loot box war truly kicked off and even world government bodies were involved, but still -- words of wisdom to live by!

News:: New live-action Street Fighter TV series will be based on World Warrior tournament

Production company Entertainment One (eOne) have confirmed that they are working with Joey Ansah of Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist fame, to create a live-action television series based on Street Fighter II.

eOne President Mark Gordon is pretty stoked about the new partnership. "Street Fighter is a global tour de force franchise, having garnered immense worldwide commercial success and built a vast devoted fanbase that has only grown through its 30 year legacy," said Gordon in a statement. "We are thrilled to be teaming up with Joey, Jacqueline and Mark, who are already so deeply connected to this brand, to bring this adored story to television audiences everywhere".

Assassin's Fist, you may recall was a web-series from 2014, recounting the training days of series protagonists Ryu and Ken. The series was made up of 12 bite-sized episodes and, to be honest, it wasn't bad. Now that Ansah and his team have financial backing and studio support, as well as the need for the production quality to be worthy of an actual television series, it could prove to be a neat venture.

The series is expected to tell the tale of the World Warrior tournament, as featured in 1991's Street Fighter II. The story is expected to focus on Ryu, Ken, Guile and Chun-Li, as they work to expose villainous mastermind M. Bison. If Wes Studi isn't Sagat, I'm gonna be real disappointed.

News:: Swery's The Good Life is relaunching its Kickstarter today

The Good Life was an ambitious looking game helmed by Swery65 (of Deadly Premonition fame) that took to crowdfunding site Fig to get backing. It failed pretty damn hard and it seemed like the end was nigh. Swery then said he'd try again on Kickstarter the following March. If you were miffed the game failed and wanted to pledge support, today is your lucky day!

The game is now available on Kickstarter and has a much lower funding goal than before. The graphical style has also been overhauled and looks much better than the previous version. While the first two pledge tiers don't include the game, you can end up saving a few dollars on the title if you pledge $25 and land your name in the credits. The game is still scheduled for PS4 and PC with a potential release date of 2019.

News:: EA posts job listing for 'open world Star Wars game'

Is it safe to say that EA won't try to pack microtransactions into another Star Wars game again after what happened with Battlefront 2? No, it's not, but I think they'll be more cautious about it in the future.

It wasn't enough of a dealbeaker for Disney either, as it seems like EA is hard at work with another Star Wars title -- an "open world" project. Based on a job listing on EA's official site, the position calls for a seat at EA Vancouver for a Lead Online Engineer, to work on an online infrastructure.

This seems to be the remnants of that Visceral Games project, which was subsequently moved to Vancouver. It's way too early to speculate, but there's going to be a lot more EA Star Wars projects in the pipeline.

News:: New trailer released for upcoming Persona 5 anime series

A new trailer has been released to pump up the hype for the upcoming Persona 5 anime series, which will broadcast in Japan in just a couple of weeks.

The video features our boy Ren (which has been decided as the anime's canon name for the Phantom Thieves squad leader) as he goes about his heart-stealing ways. We also catch glimpses of other characters such as super-sleuth Goro Akechi, bed-time kitty Morgana and the monstrous gym-teacher Mr. Kamoshida.

The Persona 5 anime begins in Japan on April 7. Ainplex of America have purchased licence for the show in the West, so hopefully fans elsewhere can jump aboard the cat-van real soon.

News:: The adorably strange Gooey is coming to Kirby Star Allies as free DLC

Again I must espouse the greatness of Kirby Star Allies. I'm working on my third playthrough now after running the extra arena mode multiple times, and I think I'm already planning my fourth based on all of the free character DLC on the way.

Rick, Kine, Coo, and even Marx are on the way, as well as Gooey -- the insane blob that was introduced in Kirby's Dream Land 2, but really shined in Dream Land 3 as his own character. Most of his abilities are based on this tongue, and although he can't use the copy ability he could in the past, he does sport parasol, fire, and stone as a callback.

All five characters will be making their way into the game soon as Dream Friends by way of an update.

News:: Job listing points to possible Ace Combat remaster project

A software quality assurance company has listed a job opening on Japanese recruitment site Mid-Tenshoku which could point to some form of as-yet-undisclosed Ace Combat project.

The company is on the hunt for someone with experience in team-management, as well as experience working with multi-platform projects, particularly for PS4 and Xbox One. Also requested are experience with debugging and "an ability to keep up attendance", as opposed to those jobs where you can't be arsed to show up and that's just fine.

Tellingly however, the advert also says that preference will be offered to those with "deep knowledge of the PS2 titles Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies, Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, and Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War". specifically mentioning candidates who are aware of elements such as mission layout and objectives.

While this is all guesswork, the smart money is on the possibility that one of more of the top-gunning jet-fighter series may be in line for a modern day remaster or remake, though no such project has yet been announced by Ace Combat publishers Bandai Namco. Given this info, maybe we'll have the opportunity to fly the unfriendly skies once again soon.

News:: Fox n Forests, coming to consoles (including Switch), looks impressive

Whenever something comes along that looks like Disney's Magical Quest or any '90s era Capcom game, I immediately perk up. Fox n Forests eluded me when studio Bonus Level concluded its 2016 Kickstarter with €107,875, but it's definitely on my radar now.

The game, which missed a 2017 target but is on track for 2018, is coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, with a spring window. Some of the subtle effects like the shadows are great, and forced me to watch the trailer multiple times.

I'm sure the whole "Switch" angle is also working out for them when several other Kickstarters missed that mark. Keep an eye out for this one!

News:: Sea of Thieves breaks waves in huge UK Charts shakeup

In what is easily the biggest shakeup in months, the top four slots in the UK Charts were all captured by debuting titles last week, which forced their way into the big leagues.

The string of successful debuts was led by Microsoft's seafaring adventure title Sea of Thieves, which was then followed by EA's co-op only prison break title, No Way Out. In third place was beautiful RPG sequel Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, with Ubisoft's remastered edition of 2014's Assassin's Creed Rogue slotting neatly into number four.

The success of these titles pushed Burnout Paradise Remastered and FIFA 18 down several slots, though the irrepressible Mario managed to hold fast, with both Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey maintaining Top Ten spots.

Elsewhere in the charts, Nintendo 3DS release Detective Pikachu had a disappointing first week, debuting at number 23, while Bandai Namco's Attack on Titan 2 landed at a respectable number 17.

News:: This custom created Poke Ball Switch dock is expensive, but lovely

I've posted about tons of different custom Switch docks this past year and I kind of want all of them. It's not feasible to constantly change them out for each season (though it's tempting), mostly because of how pricey a lot of them are.

That includes this amazing Pokeball dock from this Etsy seller, which goes for £70. It's from Senpai3D, the same person who created this (also amazing) Mario Odyssey dock, which tempted me earlier this year.

The Pokeball doubles as a slick cartridge, amiibo, and Joy-Con holder though, which gives it a slight edge. Maybe Nintendo will hone in on this market at some point? With the increased emphasis on trademarking Switch accessories it could happen!

News:: ‘Pokémon Go’ fetch quests could bring you closer to Mew

Well over a year later, Niantic is adding more traditional gameplay to Pokémon Go. Soon, you'll be able to tackle "Research Tasks." Essentially, they're fetch-quests like you'd find in a typical RPG. The carrot on the string? Finding out if the "series of mysterious happenings" in the game are related to Mew, the illusive psychic, Mythical Pokémon. You'll pick up normal research tasks (finding and catching predetermined pocket monsters, battling) from Pokéstops, while "Special Research" objectives from Professor Willow are rather ambiguous.

News:: Review: The Alliance Alive

Cattle Call's The Legend of Legacy should have been one of the 3DS greats. Director Masataka Matsuura assembled several of the best game designers of Japan, bringing together artists, writers, and musicians who crafted some of the greatest games of all time. But like the 2003 Lakers, all of that talent couldn't produce when it mattered the most.
