News::Female Tengu joins the cast of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate

After spending a good amount of time teasing, Team Ninja has announced Female Tengu for Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate . Sporting a pair of wings and a devilish demeanor, she reminds me of Devil Jin quite a bit. More than the design too, she even rocks a similar windmill kick.

The wings aren't just for show though. Female Tengu is described as a trickster character, focusing on aerial movement. You can see this in the clip where she fights on the beach, using her flight to get past her opponent's low attacks, presumably opening them up for a whiff punish. Female Tengu will be available in Japan later this month as part of an update, in addition to a costume pack. No word on when she will be seeing release elsewhere.

Stevivor -- "At the risk of making this sound like a dodgy election advertisement or something, Jean-Francois Poirier is a man with his head on straight. Poirier, Producer on Ubisofts Child of Light, was in Australia last week for a Vivid Sydney panel on the making of the game. Poirier also took the time to sit and chat with Stevivor on the same topic. Naturally, as two Canadians are wont to do when gathering in Australia or anywhere else for that matter we ended up talking ice hockey for ten minutes."

Xemness writes: "The RPG, also known as the Role Playing game, is the most immersive and expansive genre of the video games media. I love these kinds of games, and when I find one I really enjoy, I tend to forget the rest of my life for quite some time. You start playing at three in the afternoon, and then it is suddenly two in the morning. The glory of the RPG genre cannot be overstated, and it will always be my personal favorite type of video game. Im going to give you my top 10 favorite single player time sinks of the last fifteen years (as of 2014) to get lost in. For this list, I used only one game per franchise, and the single player campaign has to be the largest aspect of the game and the primary reason why it was purchased. News::Asus reveals their ROG GR8 Steam Machine and other accessories

Like many before them, Asus has taken a stab at making their own Steam Machine, and from the spec end, it seems they've hit a pretty good mark. Boasting an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750Ti graphics card, Intel Core i7 processor, and Windows 8.1, the ROG GR8 seems pretty beastly at first glance. Those of you worrying about the device being Windows 8.1 powered need not worry, as a SteamOS powered box will be coming out, but at a later date.

There are still a few specs questions I'd want answered though, such as how much RAM will the box carry, and whether it's DDR3 or higher. Any info on how many cores the i7 will carry would be nice too, though even if it's only a dual core, the i7's hyper-threading should make up for quite a bit. A price point would be nice to.

News::Multiplayer Mixdown: The concept of "Mandatory Communication"

Multiplayer is one of the hardest parts of a game to develop. Its a coding nightmare combined with game design paralysis. For this reason, a lot of indies dont make a multiplayer mode for their game, and rightfully so if it isnt feasible to develop for your game, you shouldnt force it in just because you think it will add longevity or versatility to the game. But what if your game is multiplayer-only? Theres a select few indies that have taken on this daunting challenge, and only a few that have come out successful. Thanks to a Steam sale, Indie Game Insider picked up one that changed IGI's perspective on indie multiplayer: Guns of Icarus Online.

After watching a great deal of the week long Awesome Games Done Quickly charity livestream, I've gained a new appreciation for the ingenuity and thought process of speed runners. Still, it's crazy how many new tricks are being discovered for decades old games. The latest discovery comes for 1991's Super Mario World, in where you can set off a glitch that triggers the end cutscene, by hitting a series of very specific requirements on the first level.

News::Get a look a what's behind Decapre's mask in these Ultra Street Fighter IV endings

If you are playing, will be playing, or don't care either way about Ultra Street Fighter IV , the game's story is probably not what comes to mind whenever it's brought up. That said, it hasn't stopped Capcom from creating anime style prologues and endings for each of Ultra's five additional characters. While Elena, Rolento, Hugo, and Poison are all known quantities, I have to admit I was curios as the just who the heck Decapre was. While her appearance basically tells us a great deal (surprise, she's an evil Cammy), her ending and prologue do add a bit more.

I'm still waiting for the day when fighting game studios that still bother with story go ahead and ripoff Netherrealm's formula. Honestly, Mortal Kombat 9 and Injustice gave us the perfect road map, just follow it.

"There was a time before this game came out where people were skeptical of it. Entry into the DOOM beta was added to its purchase price, seemingly a grasping at straws to sell copies. Even I initially had my doubts going in. But, if youve ever played Chronicles of Riddick: Butcher Bay or The Darkness before, you know what kind of pedigree that Wolfenstein: The New Order comes from. Much like Crackdown was a pleasant surprise for Halo fans, I know that DOOM fans will pick up this game and be blown away by its engaging combat and rich narrative. This is the video gaming equivalent of Big Trouble in Little China, an auteur team working on what could have been a throwaway action experience. Instead, The New Order is a masterpiece of FPS design that deserves its spot among the best the genre has to offer. Play this game." - Alex Santa Maria of Geekenstein

News::Miiverse just got a little bit better

Nintendo has introduced several changes to Miivese, its online community for Wii U and 3DS players where delightfully weird stuff happens all the time and you sort of just go with it. As of the update, you'll be able to write longer comments and post more frequently, among other things:

  • We reduced the current comment restriction from 3 minutes down to 2 minutes.

  • We increased the total character limit for post and comments from 200 to 400 characters.

  • We increased the total number of notification updates you can view at once under the "Notifications" page from 20 to 50 notifications. In a future update, we are also looking into adding an option where users could turn "Yeah!" notifications on and off.

  • From now on, "Yeahs!" will also be displayed in your Activity Feed. This includes Yeahs! given by your friends and those you follow. Out of their "Yeahs!", their latest ones will be displayed.

We'll see how this goes over. The update is intended to improve the overall experience for "most users who keep their conversations on-topic," according to Nintendo. On-topic and Miiverse? Heh.

I have to say, the online service has really won me over. Seeing messages pop up in New Super Mario Bros. U after losing a level has been equal parts bizarre and hysterical -- kids complain about how "hard" the game, while others try to circumvent censors to curse out Bowser.

News::Star Citizen launches Arena Commander for backers

The bugs which led to the delay of Star Citizens' anticipated Arena Commander have been taken care of and the dogfighting module is now playable in an alpha capacity. If you're a backer, download it here, or simply update through the game launcher. There's even a full-blown manual!

Two modes, Vanduul Swarm and Freeflight, are playable using the Aurora, 300i, and Hornet -- though, it's worth mentioning, you'll be given a loaner vehicle to play with if you haven't pledged for access to one of those ships. With this V0.8 release of Arena Commander, only a small set of people can play the Battle Royale and Team modes but as "lag and synch issues" are addressed in the coming weeks, more players will be given access to that content.

"There will be many updates over the coming months adding features and content -- We're going to be adding in all the ships you pledged for... and plenty you haven’t seen yet," wrote designer Chris Roberts. "There will be new game modes, environments and equipment. We're going to work on performance, stability and improve the technology: the loading screens you see today won't be present in the finished game! For now, though, enjoy your first taste of space combat in Star Citizen's developing world; I look forward to hearing your feedback."
