News::Miiverse just got a little bit better

Nintendo has introduced several changes to Miivese, its online community for Wii U and 3DS players where delightfully weird stuff happens all the time and you sort of just go with it. As of the update, you'll be able to write longer comments and post more frequently, among other things:

  • We reduced the current comment restriction from 3 minutes down to 2 minutes.

  • We increased the total character limit for post and comments from 200 to 400 characters.

  • We increased the total number of notification updates you can view at once under the "Notifications" page from 20 to 50 notifications. In a future update, we are also looking into adding an option where users could turn "Yeah!" notifications on and off.

  • From now on, "Yeahs!" will also be displayed in your Activity Feed. This includes Yeahs! given by your friends and those you follow. Out of their "Yeahs!", their latest ones will be displayed.

We'll see how this goes over. The update is intended to improve the overall experience for "most users who keep their conversations on-topic," according to Nintendo. On-topic and Miiverse? Heh.

I have to say, the online service has really won me over. Seeing messages pop up in New Super Mario Bros. U after losing a level has been equal parts bizarre and hysterical -- kids complain about how "hard" the game, while others try to circumvent censors to curse out Bowser.
