News::Quest for Infamy Preview: Raise Some Hell (Twinfinite)

Mike G from Twinfinite writes: RPGs as a genre tend towards a certain selection of protagonists, usually from two distinct camps. On the one hand: do-gooders who ultimately have a kind heart despite whatever exterior gets slapped on them, or a (mostly) blank slate the player then fills with personality throughout the games choices. Quest for Infamy sits distinctly in a third camp. While the hero, Roehm, isnt necessarily evil he most certainly isnt good. Stooping to just about whatever it takes to get the job done, the hero of Quest for Infamy is well on his way to such. The game itself might also be in for a little infamy as well, making some good design choices and some pretty poor ones as well.

News::Ultimate General: Gettysburg Preview (Strategy Informer)

From Strategyinformer.com: "Anyone who's ever played a Total War game should know the name of DarthMod. The legendary modder is essentially responsible for making Creative Assembly's series playable for the last few years, through unstinting hard work and the rigorous overhauling of often terrible enemy AI. If you've ever been frustrated by your opponent's baffling decisions in a Total War game, you need to check his work out. Possibly frustrated by the fact that CA seem to delight in resetting all his hard work every few years with another wobbly release, he's decided to head into development himself, working with studio Game-Labs. It's perhaps no surprise that in DarthMod's (real name Nick Thomadis) first foray into game development, Ultimate General: Gettysburg, sexy graphics and unnecessary polish take a firm back seat to cunning and varied artificial intelligence.".

News::Review: Sniper Elite III Hits Its Mark, But Runs Out Of Ammo Quickly [EGMR]

EGMR writes: "In closing I was not very kind to Sniper Elite V2 at all, but Im very appreciative of the fact that even though Sniper Elite III doesnt reach greatness, it is a definite improvement over its predecessor and I can see the amount of effort Rebellion put in to create a bigger game. Sniper Elite III is probably the best entry in the series to date, but unfortunately its severely brought down by immense repetition, strange AI and a strong lack of variety. Im sure that fans of the series will be pleased. However its also often a case of quantity over quality here, and while fun the game does run out of steam before it should. Its absolutely worth playing if youre keen to give it a shot no pun intended and its pretty entertaining for a day or two, but it can be missed or acquired for cheaper if youre hesitant."

News::Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark Review (WOW247)

"Transformers: Rise of The Dark Spark is nothing more than a bland and unexciting third person shooter. "The combat is samey and never grows to a climax, and the vehicle mode is underused and pointless though the flying sections are good. The graphics are grubby and rough, which declines significantly in the cutscenes."

News::Violating the creed of the assassin

AWESOMEoutof10's Liam Hayes isn't quite sold on the Assassin's Creed series, partly due to the fact that none of the protagonists ever act much like assassins -- somewhat of a problem for a series with the word in its title. "With a fleshed out stealth system justified by harder combat, Assassins Creed could establish itself as a series with a distinct identity, and, in doing so, find its niche and enable itself to stand the test of time. Or Ubisoft could just continue appeal to the masses and drain its life blood over a nest of squawking investor mouths. In any case, I only wish for the series to flourish. Hopefully, if any of these proposed changes are made, we can get to the real heart of what Assassins Creed should and could be. Preferably by way of a knife, having crept up by employing a capable stealth mechanic, and without having to pick up some flags afterwards."

News::Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark Review [KKEnt]

Kuma wrote: There are many problems when it comes to war, especially when others get involved . As of right now, the Autobots are struggling with a new threat and the return of an old one. This time around we will cross between two universes where you decide, once again, which will be victorious. The Autobots and Decepticons have been butting heads longer then I can remember. But now with a third faction getting involved, it raises the question of how far will this war go? Or rather, who is really pulling the strings here with someone that is giving orders to Lockdown and the return of the Dark Spark? The Autobots are in for one hell of a fight and Earth is right in the middle of the conflict. Welcome, Gamers to this review of Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark.

News::Appirits introduced unique Pandemonium mode for Shikihime Garden

Appirits, the Japanese game developer and publisher recently has released a unique play mode namely Pandemonium for their free-to-play browser-based card & simulation game Shikihime Garden since July 1st 2014. Shikihime Garden may be seen as a RPG Farmville edition made by Japanese combined with traditional card combat gameplay. The game requires players to battle against numerous enemies to collect new cards (called Shikihime, i.e. girls using magic) and items which later can be used as decorations in their small but cute gardens. The good mix of card-based gameplay and simulation factors is what makes Shikihime Garden outstanding from other card games. By introducing the brand new Pandemonium mode, Appirits now put players' gardens under numberless attacks from hordes of monsters and evil spirits. Players will select Shikihime cards to a special deck to fight against those fierce enemies. Pandemonium mode will force players to overcome several waves of attacks to protect the...

News::Valiant Hearts: The Great War Review | High Score Reviews

Nearly every war has been touched on by the video game industry. Between Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and a myriad of strategy games, we have seen it all. These titles provide entertainment, but they rarely delve into the sacrifice, loyalty, and loss that is war. In making games fast and action-packed, we have forgotten what conflict really is. Ubisoft Montpellier has created a more focused, deeply emotional story about the horrors of the battlefield and the impact of war in their latest downloadable release, Valiant Hearts: The Great War. By utilizing the viewpoints of four fictional people involved in World War I, players are taken on a journey starting with the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 and ending with The United States entry into the battle in 1917.

GamingLives takes a look at the one-man-build space exploration game where a lone traveller has to discover the secrets of a seemingly empty planet which somehow shows signs of previous Russian settlement. "Lifeless Planet is a good start for Stage 2 Studios, particularly for a company that is focused primarily on simulations. With some slightly better writing, and starting the game while thinking about the mechanics rather than ending the game design with them, Lifeless Planet could be a really impressive story which had the potential to eventually become a new Limbo or Journey. At best, its a slightly above-par walk in a park that has a somewhat more interesting atmosphere."
