News::Killing Floor unleashes the Pier of Pain

I just want to point out that Tripwire Interactive's co-op zombie shooter Killing Floor is four years old. It came out in May 2009 and the studio is still supporting it with free expansions as well as paid DLC. That's a heck of a level of commitment for any game. Right now you can get Killing Floor for just $3.99/£2.99 which is 80% off the regular price.

The Pier of Pain event runs until July 23rd and features a whole new level and gameplay mode entitled Objective Mode in which players will escort a VIP character whilst fighting off the mutated hordes. In addition, there are two new weapon packs for you to unlock or purchase. Not only that but Killing Floor will be free to try on Steam for a week, starting July 4th. Oh, and all the game's DLC is half price too.

I feel I have to commend Tripwire for its continued support of Killing Floor; I put plenty of hours into the game but haven't played since loosing my regular co-op partners. Seems right now might be the best time to jump back on the wagon.

Official Xbox Magazine: ''State of Decay's second title update is experiencing a few teething troubles, if user upset on Twitter and the game forums is any indication - some players have run into freezing bugs. Undead Labs is looking into things, but cautions that only a minority of users appear to be affected by the more severe issues, which makes it difficult to isolate them.''

News::E3 2013: Dark Souls II Impressions | GamingExcellence

After my fourth death during the demo of Dark Souls II, I really wanted to snap the controller in half. And yet, I still wanted to play more and more. That is the alluring siren song that the Soul series sings to its players. When you die, it makes you want to do better. Its challenging gameplay are for a serious sect of roleplaying gamers. This is not a series that holds your hand. You may get a quick tutorial that tells you the buttons, but after that THAT'S IT! You are left on your own to fight and to die. And make no mistake: you will die a lot.

News::Again, in high definition: Destiny's E3 walkthrough

I'm really starting to come around to Destiny . While this is more or less the walkthrough we saw back at E3, seeing it in HD as opposed to on a live stream while mentally and physically exhausted has done wonders for my anticipation of the game.

That opening shot in particular is just spectacular. For me, the big draw beyond the obvious Bungie-made first-person-shooter gameplay will be the distinct worlds of Destiny. Skip to the end if you want a reminder of what's in store on that front.

News::Deadpool Review (PC/Xbox 360/PS3) - JPS

"Deadpool is one of Marvels most entertaining and comical characters. Hes appeared in video games ranging from X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance series. However, the infamous Merc with a Mouth has never taken center stage in a game all about him and his wild antics, which is surprising given his perfect fit for this form of media. High Moon Studios, known for their work with the Transformers license over the past few years, has decided to put an end to this travesty by carefully crafting a Deadpool game for his fans, one simply titled Deadpool." - JPS

News::Preview: Beatbuddy (This Is My Joystick)

Its fairly safe to say that it wasnt long ago when people didnt really care about how a game sounded. It was all polygon count this and number of on-screen enemies that. People didnt deem the audio of their game to be that important. Times have changed. Weve got orchestras knocking out themes from our favourite games, downloadable soundtracks and press releases telling us to get excited about artists that feature within upcoming games. One of those upcoming games that has some very interesting audio is Beatbuddy.

News::Batman: Arkham Origins Preview | GodisaGeek

GodisaGeek: "I emerged from the demo for Batman: Arkham Origins more excited for the upcoming game than I expected to be. It seems as if Warner Brothers Montreal have done a good job at carrying on the torch lit by Rocksteady Studios. Theres a couple of months before release yet, and the demo we were able to see was very limited to a couple of key points and new features which could mean that all of the aspects which make a Batman game shine have all been modified for the worse. I didnt get that feeling though, it seemed as if the developers on hand all had a certain reverence for the series and wanted to do it justice. It may not be the best of the series, and it may not even attempt to do anything vastly different with everyones favourite caped crusader, but it certainly doesnt appear that theyve made a game any less worthy of the Batman name than Rocksteady would have."

News::Jack Keane 2: The Fire Within Review - Twinfinite

Mike writes, "Jack Keane 2 takes place in a number of exotic locales at the end of the 19th century. The titular hero is a wisecracking, yet not terribly effective, adventurer who travels the globe in search of exotic treasure. Think Guybrush Threepwood with a dash of Nathan Drake and you pretty much know all you need to about Jack as a character. Hes actually pretty engaging and amusing but is let down somewhat by subpar voice acting; a common theme throughout the game but particularly apparent with some Asian accents that could charitably be referred to as culturally insensitive."

News::Gamesradar- The Walking Dead: 400 Days Review

GR:Season 2 of Telltale's Walking Dead series might still be a ways away, but 400 Days is here to fill the hole in your heart that the first season left. And what does it fill it with? Well, more holes, as you might expect. That's sort of The Walking Dead's thing. The light downloadable episode only packs an hour-and-a-half punch and isn't really able to gain the emotional momentum that the first season did. That said, it's still a good stand-alone experience, and sets the stage well for the franchise's future.

News::Rogue Legacy (PC) | FTG Review

FTG Writes: And so goes Rogue Legacy for the PC. A side-scrolling 2D rogue-like that hearkens back to days of Castlevania 2: Simons Quest by Cellar Door Games. Is this just another 16-bit rogue style game that will be forgotten to the ages or will this one rise above its predecessors? The storyline is fairly simple: Rogue Legacys tutorial walks you through the basics of the game, which has your unnamed knight walking through the halls of a castle and striking down the King residing there. This triggers a series of events which leads to your familys bloodline being cursed and the royal kingdom sending out the heirs to the throne to break the curse. In order to break the curse, the sons and daughters of the royal family tree are sent, one after another, into this ever-changing castle to defeat the lord and master and his henchmen.

News::PS3 and Vita action-RPG Warrior's Lair canceled

Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed to IGN that Warrior's Lair -- or Ruin , depending on how long ago you lost interest in the game -- is no longer in development for PlayStation Vita and PS3. We all figured it'd happen eventually, so I wonder what took so long?

While the game always looked to be a bit on the generic side, the more I think about it, the more I realize the Vita could have used titles like this back when Warrior's Lair/Ruin still looked like a sure thing. Now? Can't say I'm particularly disappointed.

News::Sony introduces mobile payments for the PSN

Sony has partnered with the mobile payment system Boku to present an easy way to buy digital products and manage your PSN wallet. Basically, this allows you to add your mobile number into the Boku system and confirm payments via SMS -- it'll then be added to your bill automatically. Look for the "mobile" option when adding to your wallet, UK PSN users.

Sony of Europe's Gordon Thornton explains, "We are always looking at new ways to give our customers more choice in terms of content, accessibility and payment methods, and are pleased to be able to offer the option of mobile operator billing, which are becoming more and more popular."

That works for me, honestly. Sony is finally catching up with Microsoft's Xbox.com and the ease of buying content, and it looks like everything will be in place with the PS4 rolls around. Currently, this system is only in place in the UK.

News::Interstellar Marines arrvies on Steam Early Access

It's been in development for years but Interstellar Marines is finally taking its (hopefully) last few steps towards being fully released. The game is available on to buy on Steam's Early Access service allowing you to help fund the game's full release.

There's two ways you can buy Interstellar Marines : the main game costs $14.99/£11.99, while a "Spearheard Edition" costs $39.99/£29.99 and gets you some goodies like a soundtrack, artbook, and an extra code for the game. If you want to upgrade to the Spearhead Edition, it'll cost you $24.99/£18.99.

After Zero Point Software's Kickstarter campaign was unsuccessful at the end of last year, I wondered if Interstellar Marines would ever see the light of day. Maybe selling Early Access on Steam will fund the game for that last development of the game?

News::Microsoft details the Xbox One's new reputation system

Going above and beyond the Xbox 360's five-star rating system, Microsoft will implement a new reputation system for the Xbox One. "What we're looking at doing is creating a very robust system around reputation and match-making," senior product manager Mike Lavin told OXM.

"If people are in your friends list, we're not touching that, we're just making it easier for you to come together," he said. "It's really the anonymous side of things where we're making these investments. Ultimately if there's a few percent of our population that are causing the rest of the population to have a miserable time, we should be able to identify those folks."

And do what with them, exactly? Why, group them together, of course! "You'll probably end up starting to play more with other people that are more similar to you" if "you continue to play bad or harass other people en masse," explained Lavin.

"It's very much over a period of time -- if we see consistently that people, for instance, don't like playing with you, that you're consistently blocked, that you're the subject of enforcement actions because you're sending naked pictures of yourself to people that don't want naked pictures of you... Blatant things like that have the ability to quickly reduce your Reputation score." If this works, I'm all for it. I've long been trained to disable public chat wherever possible.

News::Dota 2 adds more tutorials to help ease in new players

Valve has added a new collection of tutorials for Dota 2 to help newer players with movement, general tactics, and hard combat. The new system will teach you everything step by step, at which point it'll allow you to take on a pared down selection of the game's cast, as you learn each character's strengths and weaknesses.

If you've ever wanted to learn how a MOBA works, the free Dota 2 is a great start. Almost 10 years ago I got my start with the original Dota, and I ended up applying that knowledge to pretty much every MOBA out there right now.

You will have to give it some extra effort if you want to learn the meta-game and the ins and outs of each character as it pertains to match-ups and team fights, but it's a start.
