News::Tropico 5 Review | The Game Scouts

Tin Salamunic: Tropico prides itself in turning the most honorable leader into a monstrous dictator. My first few hours of leadership were build on trust and peace. Yet despite my good intentions, I ended up bankrupt with half the island warring and my allies turning against me. While playing an honest leader is certainly possible, Tropicos satirical approach to politics encourages dirty play in order to truly succeed. Then again, considering how foul most politicians are in real life, Tropico may be far more realistic than it appears at first glance. Since its original release in 2001, Tropicos niche has been its tongue-in-cheek presentation of the banana republics and Tropico 5 no different. The games humor is still undeniably charming while the mature gameplay offers a complex, immersive and challenging experience. Tropico 5 may not be a massive franchise overhaul, but Haemimont Games has improved nearly every area that made the series successful in the first place. For anyo...

News::Kickstarter Weekly: Warlocks, Stash and Data Hacker: Reboot

Garrett from The Koalition writes: What Ive learned, or rather remembered, about the RPG genre is that its versatile, and there are many projects on Kickstarter that showcase such versatility. Ill admit that I had originally planned to pick three RPGs that took place within a Western fantasy setting, but I found myself sidetracked by these three projects and their different takes the genre. Warlocks is a frantic sidecrolling RPG with some of the coolest moves Ive ever seen, Stash is an MMO with turn-based mechanics, and Data Hack: Reboot is a narratively ambitious RPG whose ideas have since expanded beyond the original planned trilogy. Hopefully this issue of the Kickstarter Weekly has something for every RPG fan.

News::Boo Bunny Plague Review | Hardcore Gamer

Games that use humor should be respected. With the AAA game industry so dead-set on being dramatic, seeing the indie scene embrace the goofier side is a glimmer of hope. Humor has a place in games and developers should be honored for trying to be funny. However, being funny is no substitute for being good. If a game is going to be wacky and never itself seriously, it still needs to have substance to back it up. Enter Boo Bunny Plague, a game that puts every bit of its effort into trying to be funny, while sapping any life and enjoyment out of actually playing it. What a wreck.

News::5 Killers of Modern Survival Horror

Ryan from Awesome Games writes: 'For me, survival horror gaming has always been a family affair oddly enough. I can vividly remember cowering behind my older brother as he guided the polygonal Harry Mason deeper and deeper into the rolling fog and depravity of a little known town called Silent Hill. To me, the chilling images of abandoned wheelchairs in decrepit hospitals, deserted streets and eerie fairgrounds are strangely fond and familiar. It is for these reasons that, like most fans of the franchise, Im always left feeling somewhat washed out by the more recent offerings (cue the likes of Silent Hill Downpour and Resident Evil 6).'

William Kirk at GameCloud Australia writes: "Its always great to discover an exciting new game thats being developed locally, but Paradigm isnt just your run-of-the-mill indie title. Up till this point, its been a one man project fueled by a love for all those strange 90s adventure games that made many of our childhoods so disturbingly magical. News::Review: The Golf Club (New Gamer Nation)

Golf may not be the most physically demanding sport, but its certainly one of the most technical. From swing path, body movement, and core control, even one small mistake can mean the difference between a perfectly placed ball on the green or an accidental bath in the lake. Though EA Sports PGA Tour series has been the most realistic experience, it still features elements that arent exactly authentic to the game. Now were introduced to The Golf Club, a brand new golf simulation game that relies on the feel of your swing and golf instincts without any flashy meters or indicators. Unfortunately, the decision to remove most golf game tropes ends up being a trap that developer HB Studios cant quite wedge itself out of.
