News:: Don't go out tonight, stay in with this bizarre Pearl and Marina concert

I know it's Saturday night and many of you hip young things are getting in gear for a rambunctious night out. But, instead of wasting time dressing up, getting drunk, having a scrap and ending up in a gutter/jail cell, why not just settle down and check out Splatoon 2's Pearl & Marina in concert?

The duo, collectively known as Off the Hook, took to the stage to perform their greatest (s)hits at the Splatoon 2 European Championships, held recently in Montreux, Switzerland. All the classics are here, including rap-rock classic Color Pulse.

Marina, spinning the platters that matter, and Pearl ,the self-proclaimed "Sloppiest MC in Squidport", are joined by a backing band of middle-aged metallers (just think of the money, guys) and even have some super-special guests join them on stage for the 30-minute set.

It was about a two hour flight away, and yet I wasn't there to see Her Highness, Pearl, in person (and her pal Marina, to whom I'm fairly indifferent). Shame on me.

News:: 'Gwent' revamp will help it take on card game rivals

You'd think that CD Projekt Red would have locked in Gwent's mechanics with an expected launch just months away, but not so -- if anything, it's ready to toss out what many are already taking for granted. The developer has unveiled a revamp (nicknamed Gwent Homecoming) that could shake up fundamental aspects of the game. The initiative will push for both a "complete overhaul of the visual experience" (including a tone more consistent with The Witcher) and, more importantly, key changes to gameplay.

News:: Suda 51 reacts to No More Gentlemen, the challenge to voice every character in Travis Strikes Again

We posted the exclusive news about No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again's adventure mode last week, but we never got to post the video where that news originated from. So here is part one of it! Thanks to Gordan Freeman for getting it edited for us.

We cover a lot of ground here that I haven't seen any other interviews with Suda quite get to. Take note, future game journalists - Starting things off with a cake and a bootleg is one way of making sure that your subject will be primed and ready for some eureka moments. Among other things, I learned that the playable characters in Travis Strikes Again will have different stories and move sets, that the game will have secret paths and an expansive narrative, and that the final game will require deeper combat strategies than what we saw at the PAX demo.

I also asked Suda if he'd do the voices for every character in his next game. He didn't think he could do the job justice, but I think he'd be great. I know he's reading this, so if you also think he should voice every character in Travis Strikes Again, say so in the comments. Maybe if enough of us ask him to, he'll add his voice tracks as secret unlockables or something.

There is a lot more to the video than I'll sum up here, but rest assured that if you're a fan of Grasshopper Manufacture and you want to see it's leader truly at a loss for words, you'll get a kick out of this one.

News:: Sega announce 'completely new' Sakura Wars title

This weekend at Sega Fes, in Akihabra, Tokyo, the developer/publisher announced a forthcoming entry in the Sakura Wars series, Shin Sakura Teisen.

And that's pretty much all your getting, for now. Sega weren't forthcoming on platforms, release date, territories or any other details. We do know that the game will be a "completely new" entry and will be set in 1929, one year after the events of Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love Wars, which appeared on the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii.

Shin Sakura Teisen is currently in development at Sega.

News:: Final Fantasy XIV's next patch wll once again deal with Final Fantasy Tactics

Patch 4.3 is going to be another big one for Final Fantasy XIV. As revealed by a producer live letter last night, the next major update will be titled Under the Moonlight, and will be a customary catch-up patch between major raid cycles (4.2 just gave us Sigmascape, culminating with Kefka, and 4.4 will continue that trend).

The update, said to be coming in "late May" (which will either be May 22 or 29), will add new main story quests, Namazu beast tribe quests, one new dungeon, a Deep Dungeon 2 with 100 floors (it's not a sequel to palace of the dead, but rather a reinvention of it), a new 8-person trial with normal and EX difficulties that's not going to be part of the Four Lords storyline, a new ultimate raid tier in the form of an Ultimate Weapon fight (4.31), the Pagos Expedition Eureka zone that's ice-themed, the follow-up Return to Ivalice 24-person raid The Ridorana Lighthouse, more PVP advancements, adjustments for Dark Knight, Astrolgian and Samurai, cross-world linkshells (64-person), a raid roulette, and a companion app (that can mange your inventory and access the marketboard, and also has a premium option for more retainer and saddlebag space).

Note that not all of this stuff is coming in 4.3 proper. Some of it could be considered 4.3x, meaning, several parts will arrive at a halfway point between 4.3 and 4.4 (4.35) -- the next Eureka zone is probably a perfect example of something that's pushed back into that territory.

Again, hardcore raiders only have the ultimate fight to look forward to, but there's a ton of other stuff to do -- and if the ultimate tier is even close to as difficult as the Bahamut battle, it'll take weeks for most groups to get through. I'm mostly excited to dive into a new Eureka zone already (hopefully with some improvements) and see what the next raid tier is in 4.4. Although it's probably going to deal with Omega (the main antagonist of the Sigmascape storyline), I'm pulling for a move into Final Fantasy VII and a showdown with Sephiroth -- it's the natural progression given that the first Deltascape and the second Sigmascape gave us confrontations with Exdeath (FFV) and Kefka (FFVI) respectively.

News:: DUSK's Episode Three is shaping up nicely

Sometimes the best way to get an exclusive is to simply ask. While Destructoid isn’t lacking for content about New Blood’s upcoming FPS throwback DUSK, I was curious how the upcoming Episode Three was shaping up. Turns out I just needed to bring up the idea to get a look at some of the levels.

I only played through roughly three of them, but if the level design trend exhibited in this early state is any indication, DUSK could be in the running for one of the best FPS games ever made.

News:: Review: God of War (PS4)

I was highly skeptical of the soft God of War Norse reboot. I'm always willing to give something a shot, but taking the fast and frenetic combat of the original series and slowing it down to focus on a father and son relationship? It's a bold and risky move.

One that paid off in spades.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook dominated the news this week, but Friday night Sega took the spotlight with a few announcements of its own. Plus, the other shoe drops on Billy Mitchell's high scores.

News:: Sega Ages will bring classic games to the Nintendo Switch

As part of the ongoing festivities of Fes 2018, which is currently underway in Akihabra, Tokyo, Sega have revealed a selection of classic titles are winging their way to Nintendo Switch.

Sega Ages (a compilation branding they have used previously) will bring over 15 classic Sega titles to the Nintendo eShop, with all-time classics Thunder Force IV, Sonic the Hedgehog and RPG Phantasy Star the three games currently announced. More games are to be unveiled in future reveals.

Already the idea of having portable versions of Thunder Force IV - dat soundtrack -  and Phantasy Star is exciting enough, but it will be interesting to see what other games make the grade and if the list of titles is comparable with those coming to the Sega Mega Drive Mini.

News:: Sega reveal the Sega Mega Drive Mini, check out the trailer here

At Sega Fes 2018, the developer has re-entered the console market... sorta, with the reveal of the Sega Mega Drive Mini, a compact edition of their classic home console that nestled snugly in many a bedroom in the early '90s.

The Mega Drive Mini, which is scheduled for release this year, is simply a fun-size version of the classic 16-bit machine, which first launched in Japan in 1988, before being rolled out globally over the following two years. No details have been released on price, features or, most importantly, which games will be included on the cute device.

You can check out a delightfully retro 15-second announcement trailer below. The Sega Mega Drive Mini launches in Japan later in 2018.
