News::Rise and Shine Mixes Alien Hominid and Metal Slug to Create New Game

Carl Williams writes, "Just from the title alone you can tell there are some pretty big shoes to fill with this game called Rise & Shine. Just watch the video for a bit of a level that showcases a lot of different play mechanics mixed together. It is interesting to say the least."

News::The Late Night Gamer: I Want to Live a Sheltered Life

The Late Night Gamer: What do I love most about the 50s? Im a big fan of The Twilight Zone but the cars they had back then were pretty great too. I think if I had to choose a favorite feature of the decade it would be the looming threat of nuclear annihilation. It looks like Unicube agrees with me, because their upcoming game Sheltered takes that concept and runs with it into an underground bunker.

News::10 things you didn't know about practically everyone

[Dtoid community blogger Morty compiled every 10 Things blog he could find into one handy place. What a guy! --Mr Andy Dixon]

Hello, my fellow Dtoidians. If you're like me, then you love to read the more personal blogs about our awesome Destructoid community members. There are, for example, the introduction blogs a lot of members write before tackling other topics concerning gaming and such. And there are the Community Interviews that are graciously hosted by handsome and eloquent members Everyday Legend and Opiumherz.

And then there are the 10 Things blogs, of course. Compact lists of random facts written by users about themselves. Sometimes deep and sad, often funny, always pretty interesting and insightful.

Since its inception there have been three major surges of 10 Things (and one straggler), the latest of which started just this May after Conor Elsea kickstarted it again and Andy Dixon posted a Community Assignment about it.

And this time around I finally took it upon myself to compile a list with (nearly) all 10 Things blogs that were ever written on Destructoid. Over 200 posts were done by community members over the years and even some (ex) staff members joined in on the fun. Anyone wanna publish a book?

Some older posts have broken pictures, and all of the legacy comments have vanished, but all in all this is a pretty solid collection of the 10 Things blog trend that was started by SilverDragon1979 in 2009.

Enjoy.

News::Radio Dtoid 041: Romancing Keith David

Radio D is Dtoid's official community-focused podcast! Join Aaron "Mxy" Yost (Forums Admin), ConorElsea.com (US Community Manager), Kyle MacGregor (Contributor), Mr Andy Dixon (when he shows up) and maybe, possibly Beccy Caine (when she shows up even less) as they talk about their favorite Dtoid community happenings!

In this episode, Aaron sucks at tie-dyeing, I rise from the grave, Conor knows Skeletor, Kyle Shovel Knights the hardest, and guest host nanashi teaches us about HAM. We also discuss the disturbing lack of They Live slash fiction on the Internet, the drawbacks of smearing shit on walls, how to pronounce Ys, more E3 impressions, our gaming guilty pleasures, celebrity breakdowns, licensed games, and our Steam Summer Sale purchases. Plus, Kyle and I watch One Guy One Jar for the first time. (I don't recommend it.)

News::What do you love that everyone else hates?

Yesterday, our own Jonathan Holmes bared his soul to the world when he came to the defense of tripping in Super Smash Bros. Brawl . Though his reasoning was sound and his motives sincere, after skimming the nearly 450 comments on the article, one thing became crystal clear: everyone hates what he loves.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course; no person's enjoyment of something should be predicated on whether that thing is popular, after all. But the whole ordeal got me thinking: are there any game mechanics, genres, settings, tropes, WHATEVERS, that you love that everyone else seems to hate? If so, we want to know!

News::Review: The Wolf Among Us [Playstation Enthusiast]

"Yes, Telltale Games has struck gold again with the first season of The Wolf Among Us. This is no ordinary story of displaced fables that end up in a real-life city like New York. Telltales story is so much more than that. What makes the new episodic series so good is the way that it tells an incredibly gripping story one which not only has unforeseen plot twists, but a story that also has incredible character development and relationship building" -- Playstation Enthusiast.

News::[ABG] Citizen Burger Disorder - QWOP-Style Multiplayer Fast Food Mayhem

Citizen Burger Disorder is a fun online multiplayer QWOP-style game that puts you in the shoes of an employee at a burger joint. The control scheme is purposely awkward, with WASD used to move, Q and E operating each arm independently and the left and right mouse buttons uses to grab items with the respective hands. With these controls building a burger can be a tricky task, usually resulting in the ingredients getting scattered across the floor (but the customers dont need to know that).

News::Two pros are 'edgy' about slight landing lag in Smash Bros. 4

Yesterday I wrote an article about why I'd like to have the option to turn on tripping in Smash Bros for the Wii U and 3DS. It upset a lot of people. Sorry, guys.

One part that some people found particularly insulting was inspired by this interview with Mew2King and Aramada, two of the best Smash Bros players in the world. When asked if there was anything they'd change about Smash Bros 4, Armada stated that "...landing lag was a bit longer than in previous Smash games, so after you land an aerial you can’t move as fast afterwards. An improvement could be to reduce some of the lag to make the characters move faster, which also would mean that you could use a lot more aerials while playing."

Mew2King agreed, stating "I completely agree - the landing lag is definitely the number one thing. Kirby in this game seems pretty good with the landing lag - there’s some lag, but it’s not very significant. I think if more characters went a similar route to how Kirby plays, like with his down air or back air, the game’s tension would be increased. I would also add directional influence, which is where you can control which way you get hit by using the control stick. But if there’s one thing that matters above all, it’s definitely the landing lag."
