Star Citizen is still far from being ready, but it now has a more solid underpinning. Cloud Imperium has revealed that it has switched both Star Citizen and Squadron 42 from Crytek's CryEngine to Amazon's Lumberyard engine as of Star Citizen's just-launched Alpha 2.6 release. It was an "easy and smooth transition" due to Lumberyard's CryEngine roots, but both secures the "long term future" of the games and promises some distinct advantages. It taps directly into the cloud through Amazon Web Services, for instance, and makes Twitch streaming easy.
[Spieler Dad takes a detour from Memory Lane down Monthly Musings Drive as he regales us with a story of his ever-changing and elusive perfect gaming space. Wanna see your blog on the front page? Post a blog for this month's Bloggers Wanted and you could see your work featured by Destructoid! - Wes]
I normally don’t partake in Bloggers Wanted. There isn’t a reason that I can think of for not ever writing in these on-going pieces, other than I imagine myself as a loner and rebel - like James Dean, except I’m not famous, and have less hair. With that said, the topic of a gaming special space resonated with me, so here’s my story.
Did the PC game Winter Sales sneak up on you? Earlier this week Steam launched the highly anticipated sale with thousands of discounts across the Steam platform. While their sale is pretty comprehensive, we have competition in the works, and in this price wars we're seeing the cheapest Dishonored 2, Rainbow Six Complete, Civilization VI, Grand Theft Auto V, and more plenty more PC game deals.
GMG's Winter sale is probably the best competition to Steam. Just in their third batch of deals alone contained 662 deals. Add in the already existing offers and by George we have a decent sale on our hands. GMG's 10% off coupon, which stacks with existing instant savings will in most cases make better prices than Steam's sale. Be sure to plug in coupon WINTER10 in the "Vouchers" section at checkout to get their best prices.
Steam's big sale is the largest and contains plenty of lowest ever prices itself. What you ought to really look for here are deals on Steam exclusive titles, like Planet Coaster, Ark: Survival Evolved, and Elite Dangerous - all titles you won't find elsewhere online but are getting fairly large discounts.
GMG and Steam represent the two largest PC gaming retailers on the market, but a few other offerings are on the table from the rest. GamesPlanet has the lowest price Dishonored 2 and competitive prices on other Bethesda titles. GamersGate is hosing the lowest price ever on Ubisoft's Watch Dogs 2 and Steep. Origin's Holiday sale has the best price on the in-demand Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2. DLGamer is seeing a new low on the ever popular Grand Theft Auto V and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. All the deals listed below are at their best prices online from authorized retailers during this Winter Sale.
Knowing that the company has the tendency to embed secret messages in even the most innocuous of media has me wondering what their 2016 Christmas card might tell us about their plans for 2017. Right away we see Aban, Tina and a zombie from 1001 Spikes, Quote, Curly, Balrog, and a few other characters from Cave Story, and an Isaac made of snow. There are also some vampire looking people on the bottom left hand corner of the card that I don't recognize. They could be from a new intellectual property, or it could be that my failure to play through all of Ittle Dew 2 and Creepy Castle has left me ignorant to some of the more recent additions to Nicalis's ever growing stable of characters.
If Nicalis is working on an animated adaptation, sequel, further enhanced version of Daisuke Amaya's classic action platformer, what you want out of it? New 2D graphics? 3D graphics? PS4 port? Switch exclusivity? I know Nicalis will read into all your comments, so feel free to be as direct or as cryptic as you see fit.
[Tomorrow is Christmas. Looking back on this year, I never though this project would go on for so long - that I'd be adding names even now. It's made me incredibly happy to see it used to bring our community together. The List will go on. Happy Holidays, everyone -Panda]
Good morning/afternoon/evening my friends/robots/Gardevoir
It has recently been made aware to me that, just perhaps, you all enjoy video games. It might even be said that you... like to game with others? Now now, don't be that way, I don't mean to lump you into some sort of box. You're all just such lovely folks, it pains me to watch you, struggling in vain to connect with each other, striving to engage in...
A patent filed with the United States patent office may shed some light on how the latter function might work. It details a "System and method for transporting virtual objects in a parallel reality game." The patent was filed in March of 2015 by Niantic founder John Hanke and several other Google employees, prior to the spinoff that created Niantic.
The patent mentions that transporting virtual objects through the virtual world can be linked to the location of "real world carriers," for example buses, airplanes, trains, ferries and the like. In the example given, the patent says that "a player can transfer a virtual object to the virtual counterpart of a real world carrier in a first location. The real world carrier can then travel from the first location to a second location and the virtual object can be transported through the virtual world based upon data associated with the location of the real world carrier. The second player can then receive transfer of the virtual object at the destination." The patent theorizes that the transportation could be linked to the timetable these real world carriers follow, so if a bus is delayed, that might slow down the transfer of the virtual item.
Christmas has always been the biggest time for me to catch up on my gaming. It is the Holiday that finally enabled me to get that exciting new Game Boy Color, eventually even the Game Boy Advance, as well as many other popular games for various consoles. I've opened many video game presents over the years, and I still remember every moment like it was only yesterday.
There's nothing quite like the rush of opening up a present to find the video game that you've been wanting to play all year. Obviously as adults, it's much easier to just go out and pick up your copies at launch, but do you remember what it was like when you were a kid? The wait could be brutal, but oh so well worth it. Remember what it was like to get a brand new console?
