News::Supreme Court will hear Microsoft's appeal in Xbox 360 case

Proving that the console wars are never truly over, today the Supreme Court of the United States announced (PDF) it would hear an argument relating to Microsoft's Xbox 360. At issue is whether or not Microsoft will have to face a class-action lawsuit brought by Xbox 360 owners over the console's tendency to scratch discs. In 2012 a federal judge dismissed the lawsuit claiming there weren't enough complaints for a class action, but in March 2015 that ruling was overturned.

News::Play the video game starring David Bowie for free

David Bowie was a man ahead of his time across a range of industries, including gaming. The man and his music are featured in the 1999 game Omikron: The Nomad Soul, from the studio that went on to create Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. If you're familiar with those games -- yes, Omikron is a fairly trippy experience. Its publisher, Square Enix, has decided to offer Omikron for free today through January 22nd, in honor of Bowie's life and his surprising death this week at the age of 69. To hold your own digital vigil for The Man who Fell to Earth, use the promo code "omikron" at checkout on the Square Enix store.

News::'Oxenfree' and the sweet spot of supernatural, teenage drama

"Do you want a cigarette?"

It's a simple question for most people. But for a high school senior surrounded by friends, acquaintances and crushes, the inquiry can be a minefield of reputation management. The question becomes even more treacherous when that high schooler is an adventurous, blue-haired young woman who happens to be drinking with her judgmental peers on a secluded beach next to a decommissioned military base. You know, normal teenager stuff.

This is the opening scene of Oxenfree, Night School Studio's supernatural adventure game that landed today on Xbox One and PC. Oxenfree features terrifying creatures, cave diving, breaking and entering, mystery, death—and, of course, teenage drama.

News::Xbox One won't get background music until summer at the earliest

Would it be nice to play your own songs through your Xbox One without having to use a second window? Unfortunately, the console doesn't support background music, and that feature isn't coming until Summer. Xbox head Phil Spencer was asked as much on Twitter, and responded that it wouldn't be "before Summer, sorry to say." So, that's that, and you might as well get used to having only 80 percent of your TV's real-estate taken up by your game, since Groove Music is keeping the rest... for now.
