News::MLB 2K13 sees return of the Perfect Game Challenge

MLB 2K13 sees return of the Perfect Game Challenge screenshot

2K Sports will once again be putting on the MLB 2K Perfect Game Challenge, though the format has changed somewhat for MLB 2K13 . Starting on April 1, players can begin competing for a total of $750,000 spread across 30 MLB Team Leaderboard prize pools; that's $25,000 for the top player for each team.

From there, 2K Sports will put on a tournament in New York this July for the top four competitors, with the overall winner taking home $250,000. Perhaps not as great as the prior years' million-dollar prize, but hey, that's a nice chunk of change.

Criken's Quickies takes a humorous look at The Ship screenshot

Although the indie PC game The Ship had a myriad of technical issues, the fact remains that it was still good fun with the right group of people.

As a whodunit experience, The Ship tasked players with avoiding one mystery killer -- like an interactive, third-person Clue.

Enter the crew from Criken's Quickies, who take The Ship to town, and highlighting some of the funnier aspects of the game, like the numerous glitches and goofy animations. Now I just want to go back and play!

News::Aliens: Colonial Marines Review | PS3Gen.fr

PS3Gen.fr says :"Nothing is really working fine in this game: olds visuals to too classic gameplay, silly IA and weird bugs, bad multiplayer and predictable confusion story, everything seem wrong. Hopefully, some points succeed to make this game an horrible nightmare, like the futuristic universe, lots movies references or the gameplay mecanisms of Xenomoprhes on line. To sum up, it's hard to advise this repetitive shooter game, and so boring, except if you are a big fan of the Alien's saga and want to lear more about the series and ready to go through hours of lethargy. News::Daylight: ward off insane spirits with a cell phone

PCGamer: Zombie Studios sent word last December that itd licensed the powerful Unreal Engine 4 for an unnamed psychological thriller game. Now, the studio behind Blacklight has a totally-non-ironic name for its project: Daylight, a horror-wanderer of Amnesia: The Dark Descent ilk set in a decayed, procedurally-generated insane asylum. With no name and no memory of unceremoniously arriving at the asylum, players piece together the events of the past while seeking escape from the buildings tangled ruin. The procedural generation tech, Zombie claims, means no two playthroughs will be the same. The studio says each session lasts around half an hour, which suggests a need for multiple runs to figure out the full story.

GameVortex - I never understood the fan backlash against Ninja Theory's DmC: Devil May Cry. Sure, it's a reboot, but it's of a franchise that has been wildly inconsistent, at least in my opinion. The first game (which started life as a Resident Evil project) was something of a watershed moment for the action genre. It combined the puzzles and gothic environments of Resident Evil with a stylish and wicked-fast combat system.

News::Interview: Can't find the right CCG for you? Make one!

Digitally Downloaded writes: "The collectible card game (CCG) genre is not an easy one to develop. First you need to come up with a killer, original concept, and then you need to build dozens - or preferably hundreds - of individual cards and rules that come together to build a balanced game. Then you need to give people a reason to play the game in the first place, and then another reason for them to keep coming back for more. And then you'll need to find a way to earn some money from them. None of this has stopped Jeff Pinkhardt from trying. He's developed his own CCG, Orbs CCG (http://orbsccg.com/). He also took the time out to sit down and have a chat with me about his vision for the game, and what's next for Orbs."

Just after MAGFest ended last month, nerdcore rapper Mega Ran unloaded a new EP on the Destructoid doorsteps. A collection of tunes from games like Battletoads and Earthworm Jim with original lyrics added, Time and Space was the first installment of an initiative to release an EP every month in 2013 with material that fans suggested.

Every second Tuesday in the month, a fresh album will appear. But because you guys are so special, you'll be able to download them for free the day before on Dtoid's SoundCloud page. Second on deck is Time and Space: Eternalism , a four-track roundup that sources Super Mario RPG, Illusion of Gaia, and Beyond Good & Evil.

If you'd like to suggest a game for Ran to cover next, hit him up at megaranfans@gmail.com. If you want to donate, slide on down to his FundRazr page and fork over a couple of bucks. Bigger donations will obviously hold more weight when it comes time to picking new songs for the following month, but that shouldn't discourage you from making any ol' wild request.

News::When do open-world games become overwhelming rather than compelling?

MMGN.com: "Why do people love open-world games? Well, its the concept of player choice and freedom that entices most of us. I often play RPGs based on the level of customisation it offers, or if it allows me to focus on the side-quests without forcing me to finish the main storyline. Having agency and freedom in a video game is naturally an intriguing thing, and shaping it around what you want to experience is a nice alternative to following a scripted, rigid campaign. News::Infinity Blade: Dungeons on hold as Impossible Studios closes

Impossible Studios is to close as it “wasn’t working out” for owner Epic Games, according to a statement on Epic’s site.

Impossible was only formed last summer, when Epic stepped in to set up the studio made up of former Big Huge Games staffers. Epic says that the Impossible team has been given three months’ severance pay and is free to form a new company with the Impossible Studios name and logo.

“We’re closing Impossible Studios,” said Epic founder Tim Sweeney. “When former members of Big Huge Games approached Epic last year, we saw the opportunity to help a great group of people while putting them to work on a project that needed a team. It was a bold initiative and the Impossible folks made a gallant effort, but ultimately it wasn’t working out for Epic.”
